Randy Houser delights crowds at Sam's club opening

Country music artist Randy Houser was a one-man show Thursday morning for the opening of the Sam’s Club at Fischer Crossings. Houser opened the ribbon-cutting ceremony by singing the national anthem and later sang a number of selections for fans. Employees at the new 136,000 square-foot Sam's Club, the company's largest store in the Southeast, were met by long lines of customers when the doors opened for the first time at 8:30 a.m. Sam's Club is the first retailer to open at the Fischer Crossings retail development located at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta County.

At the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg on Sunday, Dec. 12, Kyle Benson, age 17, presided over much of the Sunday service as “Nicholas Bishop,” also known as “Boy Bishop,” in an ancient European ceremony which offers a lesson in humility and recognition of the wisdom of youthful innocence. Christ the King announces two recent CEC seminary graduates

The Rev. Deacon James Gardner of Tyrone and the Rev. Deacon Jason Epps of Sharpsburg, recently successfully completed the comprehensive oral examination phase required for graduation from St. Michael’s Seminary of San Clemente, Calif., the denominational seminary for the Charismatic Episcopal Church.

Gardner has also completed the required comprehensive written examination phase. Both have completed all course work necessary for the master of ministry degree and both men serve at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg. Read More»

New movie theater at Fischer Crossings to open mid-January

“See you at the movies,” soon will have new meaning for Peachtree City and eastern Coweta County moviegoers.

The NCG Peachtree City Cinemas is expected to open in mid-January at the new Fischer Crossing commercial development in east Coweta County at Fischer Road and Ga. highways 34 and 54, one-half mile west of Peachtree City.

But it is what moviegoers will find inside the theaters that makes NCG’s entree into southwest metro Atlanta decidedly different from the norm. Read More»

Sharpsburg man struck by vehicle, dies

A Sharpsburg man died early Monday night after being struck by a vehicle traveling on Ga. Highway 154 at Malvern Hill near Willis Road. No charges have been filed at this time.

Coweta Sheriff’s Lt. John LaChance said Sharpsburg resident Shane McCreery, 33, was hit by a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Whitesburg resident James Green at approximately 7:34 p.m. Monday. Read More»

CTK celebrates anniversary, welcomes new members

The Cathedral of Christ the King in Sharpsburg celebrated the church’s 14th anniversary by confirming or receiving several new members.

The church began in a living room with 19 people in 1996 and relocated to the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City for six years.

The congregation then occupied its new sanctuary and a fellowship hall and classroom were later added at the location on Ga. Highway 34 in Coweta County.

The group shared a meal at a Fayetteville restaurant. The group frequently gathers for fellowship and activities. Dr. Gerald Calvin Webb, D.D.S., of Sharpsburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010.

Dr. Webb is preceded in death by his parents, Ballard Gerome Webb and Mary Etta Price Webb.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Webb; three sons, Stephen Webb of Forest Park, Allan (Debbie) Webb of Fayetteville and Barry (Brenda) Webb of Auburn, GA; daughter Laura (Jim) Hurst of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Read More»

Sharpsburg looks to annex for commercial/retail development

It’s back. What was a proposal before the Coweta County Commission in November 2009 to establish a residential and commercial development at Ga. Highway 16 and Ga. Highway 54 just south of Sharpsburg made its way back to the commission last week. But with a twist. Though denied by the board last year, the re-scaled development came back to the commission again, but in the form of an annexation request by Sharpsburg to annex the property for the development into the city.
