Senoia awards contract for new police/court building

Senoia’s new police and municipal court building is still on schedule to open in early May. The City Council Monday night in preparation for the opening approved bids for the installation of the telephone system and the court speaker and recording system.

The council after hearing the specifics of the bids explained by Police Chief Jason Edens voted to hire Ultimate Security to install each of the systems.

Ultimate’s bid for the court recording and speaker system was $4,750 compared to the $5,225 offered by Diversified Resource Group and $10,881 from Trinity Technical Solutions. Read More»

Senoia council takes no action on street vendors

The Senoia City Council at the April 5 meeting took no action after a discussion on establishing regulations allowing street vendors. The council was opposed to those operations competing with the city’s established businesses.

City Administrator Richard Ferry said the topic surfaced when the city began receiving inquiries about having food vendors and horse-drawn carriages in and around the downtown area. Ferry said that, as a consequence of those inquiries, he needed guidance from the council on the matter. Read More»

Senoia amends water/sewer budgets

Increases in expenses related to the Senoia Water System led to the approval by the City Council Monday night of a transfer of $61,000 in reserves to amend the Water Fund budget. The council also approved a $22,800 amendment to the Sewer Fund.

Beyond the fluctuations that accompany any given line item of a budget, City Administrator Richard Ferry noted a number of variables that resulted in the recommendation to add $61,000 from the reserves to the water system’s Revenue Account. Read More»

'Heart and Soul Tour' to visit Senoia, Apr. 14

The Senoia Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is seeking people to welcome participants in the Georgia Cities 2010 Heart and Tour to the city on Apr. 14. The tour bus will arrive on Seavy Street at the Redneck Gourmet at 10 a.m. and will depart an hour later.

DDA representatives will welcome the group of 45 and lead them on a tour of downtown to learn about the history, infill development and rehabilitated buildings in downtown historic Senoia.

Office building dedicated

Office building dedicated

Friends and family gathered together last Saturday to officially dedicate Senoia’s newest office building. The historic-looking building was christened the Addy Building after longtime Senoia businessman Ellis Crook’s mother, Leola Mae Addy. Greg Crook, who now manages his father’s businesses, said the honor was fitting for a woman who did not have many material possessions, but dearly loved her family. The office building is located on Ga. Highway 16, next to Crook’s Tire Pro, and currently houses the office of Crescent South Insurance. Read More»

The Senoia Planning Commission Tuesday night unanimously approved the conceptual site plan for the K-8 Coweta Charter Academy on Rockaway Road that will be run by Charter Schools USA. The approval came with several conditions suggested by City Administrator Richard Ferry. The school will open in August. Read More»

Robert Steve Juhan, 51

Robert "Steve" Juhan, 51, Senoia, died Feb. 16. 2010. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie J. Juhan, a brother, Eddie Juhan Jr., and grandparents, Bob and Bonita Hattaway, Paul Juhan Sr., and Vera Prater. He loved hunting and the outdoors and tried to fix anything with his hands. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Griff Jones officiating. Survivors include a son, Clint Dyer, Sharpsburg; father, George "Ed" Juhan Sr., Brooks; sisters, Rhonda and Garry Marlow, Palmetto, and Bonita and Greg Powers, Brooks; and best friend, Mark Almand. Senoia gets its charter school

It was the final hurdle for parents who wanted a charter school in Senoia. That hurdle came Thursday when the Georgia State School Board offered no opposition to the recommendation by the board’s Charter Schools Committee that the petition to start up the Coweta Charter Academy at Senoia be approved.

The decision came on the heels of a December approval by the Georgia Charter Schools Commission that paved the way for Florida-based Charter Schools USA to open a K-8 charter school in Senoia. Read More»

Rain delays Senoia PD/Muni Court building completion

The completion of the new $1.3 million Senoia police department and municipal court building across from the ball fields on Howard Road is being delayed a bit. It is not a matter of budget overruns or contractor delays. The culprit is the rainy weather that has plagued the area for months. At this point the facility is expected to open sometime in May.
