Senoia reviews vehicle parking ordinance

The Senoia City Council on Monday heard the first reading of an amendment to the “Parking of Vehicles and Trailers” portion of the city’s zoning ordinance that would bring a few changes to the size of the vehicle or trailer and the locations where parking would be allowed.

There were only a few proposed changes to the ordinance. Of those, and if approved by the council, no vehicles or trailers which are eight feet or higher in height and have more than two axles will be permitted to be parked in front of the main building or dwelling or in the side or rear yards of residential dwellings. Thomas Leslie Hix and Dorothy Elaine Hix of Senoia

Thomas Leslie Hix, passed away May 20, 2010 and his wife of 43 years Dorothy Elaine Hix, passed away 14 days later on June 3, 2010, both of Senoia.

Survivors include daughters and son in laws Cynthia Elaine & Paul Harrison of Senoia; Cheryl & Mark Grindle of Senoia; grandchildren Lance Harrison, Kelly Grindle, and Ryan Grindle.

Thousands pour into Senoia for Memorial Day events

It was a Memorial Day Celebration and Festival like no other. Multiple events in Senoia Monday brought several thousand people to the downtown area. The event now in its fifth year, the parade was the headline event but the action and activities were non-stop from 10 a.m. until sunset when the skies over Senoia were filled with fireworks. Senoia is no stranger to large crowds attending special events. But the city’s previous turnouts were far exceeded Monday by the thousands who attended the 5th Annual Senoia Memorial Day Celebration and Festival.

The day began at 10 a.m. on Main Street and every side street in the downtown area, along with businesses open for the occasion, was simply bursting with people.

The keynote speaker Monday was Col. Brent Bracewell, with the colors presented by the Falcon Field Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron 116. Read More»

Rain delay for new Senoia PD opening should end soon

It is not open yet, but it should be soon. The opening of the new 8,300 square-foot Senoia Police Department and Municipal Court building on Howard Road has been delayed by humidity levels in the concrete slab. But those levels are falling and the facility is expected in open in the coming weeks.

Senoia Optimists raising money with book about Senoia

The Senoia Optimist Club is selling copies of a new book about Senoia to raise funds for local youth. Senoia Optimists Hal Sewell and Jane Hutchinson hold a copy of "Holiday Perspectives in Senoia," which debuts at Senoia's Memorial Day Celebration on Main Street Monday. The book features local history and recipes. Books will be sold exclusively through the Optimist Club through the end of June. Bike riding tour of Senoia coming June 5

The Senoia Area Historical Society is sponsoring a bike riding tour of Senoia on Saturday, June 5, starting at 9:30 a.m. The tour, for riders of all abilities, is a fund raiser for the society. Proceeds will be used to preserve and display artifacts for the museum. This is a great ride for people interested in the history of the area, interesting architecture, tales of residents past and present, or who just want some fun on a Saturday morning. Read More»

The Optimist Club of Senoia hosted its annual youth appreciation banquet on May 6 in recognition of students at East Coweta High School and Northgate High School. Senoia Optimist member Laura Bell was the chair of the event which was held at the Senior Citizens’ Center in Senoia.
