Senoia holds firm on development fees

The agenda for the year’s first meeting of the Senoia City Council held Jan. 7 was relatively light. But considering that the city has not seen staggering effects from the ongoing recession, the vote to maintain the variety of fees charged for development could be beneficial for any new business prospects.

Senoia sets qualifying fees for mayor, council

The political landscape in Senoia could be up for a change later this year. The City Council on Jan. 7 announced qualifying fees for mayor and the two council seats up for election in November.

Mayor Robert Belisle’s term will expire at the end of the year, as will those of Councilman Jeff Fisher and Councilman Larry Owens. Senoia uses the at-large method of electing council members.

The qualifying fee for mayor is $360 while the qualifying fee for council positions is $90.

Run-walk event in Senoia aimed at epilepsy

A 5K race and 1 mile walk will be held in Senoia Feb. 2 to help raise funds for epilepsy research.

The Cupid Chase is chaired by local resident Mikki Lewis, whose daughter Hadley was diagnosed with epilepsy after her first grand mal seizure while in kindergarten in 2008. Since then, Hadley was diagnosed with other related problems including dyslexia, delayed fine motor skills and other issues. Read More»

Senoia plans trolley tours to film locations in the area

Anyone visiting Senoia knows many of the buildings added in the downtown area in recent times were constructed to look as if they have been there for 100 years. Now Scott Tigchelaar of Raleigh/Riverwood Studios is about to add another feature to the landscape — an old-time trolley that will provide tours for the city’s many movie and television locations. A change in water and sewer rates is likely coming to Senoia. A proposed increase of 10 percent for water service and 21 percent for sewer service for residential customers, based on average consumption, is designed to make up the difference in system revenue requirements that have suffered during the recession. ‘The Walking Dead’ to return to Senoia in 2013

Looks like America’s top-rated television show will be returning to Senoia and Coweta County for its fourth season. Stalwart Films spokesman Mike Riley made the announcement Thursday at the meeting of the Coweta County Commission as he thanked the county and its residents for their support of the AMC network’s hit show, “The Walking Dead.”

"The Walking Dead" will be coming back for a fourth season and will be associated with Senoia’s Raleigh Studios, Riley said, adding that pre-production for the show will probably begin in March. Read More»

Senoia budget shows decreased spending

December in Senoia not only brings all kinds of Christmas festivities, it also brings the annual adoption of the budget. The first of two public hearings on the budget will be held Dec. 10 and will show a proposed 2013 general fund budget totaling $2.292 million that reflects a 1.5 percent decrease in spending over 2012.

The current general fund budget totals $2.327 million. City Administrator Richard Ferry in his budget report said the general fund budget proposed for FY 2013 totals $2,291,800. That figure represents a decrease of 1.5 percent over current budget that ends Dec. 31. Read More»

The Senoia City Council will hold a public hearing Dec. 10 to review proposed changes in the cost of water and sewer rates. A proposed increase of 10 percent for water and 21 percent for sewer for residential customers, based on average consumption, is designed to make up the difference in system revenue requirements that have suffered during the recession.

The council will look at four proposals for water and sewer rates. The most equitable for all customers, proposal 4 would result in an equivalent increase for residential, commercial and industrial users. Read More»
