Senoia to consider assisted living center

It is a proposal that the Senoia City Council has asked to be examined further before rendering a decision. An initial proposal at the July 5 meeting by Tranquil Village, LLC would have an assisted living center situated on property recently surplused by the city. New Senoia PD/Court building opens early July

It was in April 2009 that the Senoia City Council approved construction plans for the new Senoia Police Department and Municipal Court building on Howard Road. Despite past weather-related delays, the new 8,310 square-foot facility is expected to open in early July.

Completion of the $1 million project was expected to be wrapped up in the spring, but delays due to a wet winter and high moisture levels in the concrete floor pushed that date back. But all that is about to be a thing of the past. Read More»

Senoia amends parking ordinance for large vehicles

The Senoia City Council at the June 21 meeting heard the second reading and voted to amend the “Parking of Vehicles and Trailers” portion of the city’s zoning ordinance. The amendment relates to the size of the vehicle or trailer and the locations where parking would be allowed.

One of the changes to the ordinance states that no vehicles or trailers which are eight feet or higher in height and have more than two axles will be permitted to be parked in front of the main building or dwelling or in the side or rear yards of residential dwellings. Read More»

Successful Senoia Farmers Market adds second Saturday

The Senoia Farmers Market was such a hit on its opening day two weeks ago that the City Council gave approval Monday night for the market to add a second Saturday and begin operating twice each month. Located in the parking lot at City Hall, the farmers market will be open June 26 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Downtown Development Authority Chair Suzanne Helfman told council members that the request was being made due to the number of people attending and the enthusiasm of the vendors.

New Senoia PD/Court building almost ready

The delay of the opening for the new Senoia Police Department and Municipal Court building appears to be coming to a close. The floors are in and the final walk-through is expected next week.

The completion of the $1.3 million project on Howard Road had been delayed recently due to the moisture level in the concrete floor. But that obstacle has been overcome and the flooring has been installed.

Police Chief Jason Edens said Thursday that an initial walk-through with the project punch list was accomplished last week. The final walk-through is expected on June 23, he said. Read More»

Jeremy and Kelly Carleton of Senoia announce the birth of their daughter, Olivia Grace, born March 25, 2010, at 8:45 a.m. at Southern Regional Hospital in Riverdale. She weighed 6 lbs., 13 oz., and was 19 inches long. Grandparents are John and Becky Carleton of Phoenix, Ariz., and Randy and Julie Ross of Peachtree City. Olivia was welcomed home by her sister, Anna Claire, age 3.

Caleb and Sarah (Savage) Cushing of Senoia announce the birth of their son, Coale Caleb Cushing, at 11:09 a.m. , May 12, 2010, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Coale weighed 9 lbs., 7 oz. and was 22 inches long. Grandparents are Elizabeth and Randy Richter, and Susan and Gary Cushing, all of Fayetteville. Great-grandmother is Hazel Cawthon of Conyers.

Southern Living's 2010 "Idea House" opens this weekend in Senoia

Hundreds attend the June 8 pre-opening event for the 2010 Southern Living "Idea House" located on the Gin Property adjacent to downtown Senoia.

It was a "Ride to Make History" in Senoia June 5

The motorcycles get ready to leave downtown Senoia Saturday for a scenic ride through Coweta County as part of the “Ride to Make History” fundraiser for the Senoia Area Historical Society. The event also featured a bicycle ride that began at Senoia Children’s Park and ended at the Senoia Area Historical Society Museum on Couch Street.

Senoia Farmers Market opens

The Senoia Farmers market begins operations Saturday from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. and will be open on the second Saturday of each month through October. The market is located in the parking lot at city hall.
