Calling all filmmakers

Senoia to hold steady on millage rate

The matter will not be decided until Aug. 20, but it is likely that the Senoia City Council will keep the property tax rate at 6.11 mills.

The council at the Aug. 2 meeting was told by city administrator Richard Ferry that city can meet its budget obligations without any increase in the millage rate. Mayor Robert Belisle agreed, noting that the city has maintained the 6.11 millage rate since 2006.

Recent reassessments decreased the value of some properties in the city by a total of approximately $1.5 million. Meantime, the city added $8.5 million in improvements, Ferry said. Read More»

Jewish elder to speak at Vineyard

Vineyard Community Church in Senoia will host “Ps, Qs and Jews” with special guest speaker Ryan Lambert.

Lambert is a Jewish believer in Jesus and is the chief planter, initial elder and congregational leader of Congregation Beth Messiah (www.bethmessiahatlanta.com).

The mini-conference will be held Aug. 14 starting at 5 p.m. and will continue at the Sunday gathering on Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Questions like “What is the Biblical definition of a Jew?” and “Should Christians keep the Law?” will be discussed. There will also be time for questions. Pizza will be served on Saturday. Read More»

It was hands on in spades last week as nearly 60 youngsters participated in morning and afternoon sessions at the Senoia Hands-on Kids Art Camp held at the Freeman Sasser building. Senoia Movie Night coming July 31

The Cultural Arts Committee of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority presents “Driving Miss Daisy” on Movie Night in Historic Downtown Senoia on Saturday, July 31. The program will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Main Street in front of the gazebo. Bring your chairs or blankets and enjoy this free showing of a classic film, parts of which were filmed at Riverwood Studios and nearby Starr’s Mill. Lamb Birth Announcement

David and Nicole Lamb of Senoia announce the birth of their daughter, Molly Catherine Lamb, at 8:16 a.m. on July 14, 2010, at Fayette Piedmont Hospital in Fayetteville. Molly weighed 7 lbs., 12 oz. and was 19.75 inches long. Grandparents are Wendell and Gail Lamb of Senoia and JoEllen Goodman and the late Gary Goodman of Carthage, N.Y. Molly was welcomed home by sisters Emma and Whitney.

Drop Dead Diva season finale shoots in Senoia

Films crews Thursday afternoon prepare to shoot scenes for the season finale of Drop Dead Diva.

Looks like a blackout at Founders Restaurant in Senoia. And that is what it was Thursday (at least outside the restaurant) when crews prepared to film the season finale of Drop Dead Diva. Founders was only one of the locations used Thursday. Other film locations included Maguire’s, Twist and the new police department and court building on Howard Street. And later Thursday night, the intersection of Main Street and Travis Street was the site of a vehicle stunt to be used in the finale.

Gateway intersection to open in October

Road crews were at work last weekend doing grading work for the intersection of Holly Grove Road and the realigned Rockaway Road at Ga. Highway 74.

Recognize this location? It may not look like much now, but it the new intersection on Ga. Highway 74 at Holly Grove Road that is part of the widening of Hwy 74. The project will realign Rockaway Road located just to the south of he new intersection. Once completed in October, the location will become the gateway to Senoia, at least from the Peachtree City perspective. But from the Senoia perspective it will be the long-awaited end of having to take your life in your hands while waiting to turn north off Rockaway.
