West Ga. to begin hospital rebirth as educational site

Groundbreaking ceremony slated for Monday at Newnan site

Monday morning will mark the continued expansion of educational opportunities in Newnan and Coweta County with the groundbreaking of the new University of West Georgia campus on Jackson Street.

The campus will be located on the property of the old Newnan Hospital located at 80 Jackson Street near downtown. The $21 million construction project is expected to produce an annual economic impact of $1.4-3.4 million. Read More»

Car show is this weekend

The Coweta Fayette Rotary Club will be hosting its fifth annual Chassis For Charity Car Show August 24 at Junction Lanes in Newnan. 
The show hosts car, truck and bike enthusiast from all over Georgia and Alabama. 

This year’s show will have over 23 classes for cars, trucks and bikes with 1st and 2nd place trophies in each class.  They will also have Best In Show, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engine and People’s Choice.  There will be commemorative dash plaques for the first 50 entries and goodie bags for the first 100 entries.  Read More»

Boy resuscitated after near-drowning

A life-threatening situation came to a good end last week when Newnan firefighters resuscitated a 3-year-old boy after a near-drowning in the Summer Grove pool.

Capt. Damon Rosser said firefighters Richard Scott and Jim Murphy were among the four firefighters arrived at the scene within 3-4 minutes after being dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 24.

An adult female approached the firefighters carrying the near-lifeless child, Rosser said. Scott took the child and began administering CPR while Rosser called for an air flight helicopter. Read More»

Mr. Long was a retired Physicians Assistant for Internal Medicine with Dr. David and Joseph Foote. He also served his country in the US Army.

Jerome Merrill Crockett, 63, Newnan

Jerome (Jerry) Merrill Crockett, 63, Newnan, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. He was the fourth child of Durwood and Mary Crockett.

Jerry was born in Atlanta and attended East Atlanta High School. He is a resident of Newnan, frequenting his cabin in Blue Ridge, Ga.

Jerry retired from the State of Georgia after serving 34 years, working under several state agencies and Governors. He retired from the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget. Read More»

Newnan July 4 parade cancelled, fireworks rescheduled

The annual July 4 parade through downtown Newnan has been cancelled due to concerns pertaining to the inclement weather expected Thursday afternoon. The parade will not be rescheduled.

Meantime, the Newnan Rotary Club’s Independence Day fireworks show at Newnan High School has been postponed due to a forecast of heavy rains on July 4.

The fireworks show has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 13. The celebration will begin that day at 6 p.m. with live music, and will conclude with the annual fireworks show at nightfall. Read More»

Charles Proctor Cooper, III, known simply as "Biff," of Newnan, Ga. passed away at age 63 following a valiant struggle with prostate cancer on Friday, June 28, 2013.

Biff was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on January 27, 1950. He previously resided in Ft.
