Mal Landais, age 69, of Newnan, Ga., peacefully passed away on Aug. 22, 2011. He was a Vietnam veteran.

James Henry Hambrick, Sr., 90, of Newnan, GA passed away August 21, 2011.

Mr. Hambrick was born in Atlanta, GA, the son of Henry Sterling Hambrick & Ethel Leona Tilley Hambrick. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was retired as an electrician with IBEW Local 613.

Newnan to hold Citizen Academy

Newnan residents wanting to learn more about how local government operates have the perfect venue coming their way beginning in September. Registration is underway for a hands-on Citizen Academy that cover topics from city ordinances to economic development and public meetings to public safety.

City Public Information Officer Gina Snider said the annual Newnan Citizen Academy is held in the fall. The academy this year will begin Sept. 12 and run through Oct. 25. Snider said registration for this year’s Newnan Citizen Academy is underway and will close on Aug. 31. Read More»

Alyce Irene Menet, 89, of Newnan

Alyce Irene Menet, age 89, of Newnan, GA went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2011.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., on July 28, 1922 to the late Eric and Olga Anderson. She lived in Vista, CA for many years and was a retired employee of the state of California. She moved to Newnan in 2002 and she was a member of Peachtree City Church of Christ.

Puckett-Gareau wedding

Jennifer Paige Puckett and Martin Patrick Gareau were married Saturday, May 28, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Fairburn. Pastor Timothy Gareau, uncle of the groom, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Cindy Farr of Newnan and Rick Puckett of Douglasville. She is a pharmacist with Publix in Atlanta.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Patrick Gareau Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio. He is the director for global operations with Casemate, also in Atlanta.

Willie Lynch Park nears completion

Construction work at Willie Lynch Park is almost complete. The City of Newnan has contracted with Georgia Development Partners to design and construct several overall park improvements to the existing park located at the intersection of Wesley Street and Richard Allen Drive. The park is currently home to the Wesley Street Gym, Pickett Field, and the recently opened Lynch Park Pool. The Newnan Boys and Girls Club is also located directly across street the from the park.
