Newnan Theatre presents ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’

“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” by Edward Albee, opens at Newnan Community Theatre on Thursday, February 16 at 8 p.m. and runs through February 26. The show “is not for the faint of heart,” said Artistic Director Paul Conroy, who is directing this intense drama.

Pat Shepherd of Newnan

Pat Shepherd of Newnan passed away at his home Feb. 4, 2012 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Griffin, Ga., Feb. 28, 1948 and was raised in Newnan. He graduated from Newnan High School in 1966 where he was salutatorian. He received his B.B.A. in Banking and Finance from the University of Georgia in 1970 and continued his education at the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking. Read More»

Food Lion closing supermarkets in F’ville, Newnan

The Food Lion Corp. opened a grocery store on the southeast side of Fayetteville and two in Newnan less than two years ago; now they will be closing in the next month.

Delhaize America, parent company of Food Lion grocery stores, announced Jan. 11 that the under-performing stores will be among 29 in Georgia that will be closing in 30 days or less. Read More»

W. Ga. puppy mill closed on New Year’s Eve

Staff and volunteers with the Newnan Coweta Humane Society (NCHS) had a different kind of celebration on New Year’s Eve when they facilitated the closure of a west Georgia puppy mill and, with the cooperation of the breeder, took possession of 29 dogs and a cat. No charges have been filed in the voluntary surrender.

NCHS President LouAnn Jones said staff on New Year’s Eve and with the consent of the facility operator took possession of 19 adult toy breed dogs, nine mixed breed puppies, an adult Beagle mix and one cat.

'Pedal for Pets' raises funds to address pet over-population

Senoia business owner and Fayette County resident Wendy Maguire has long been concerned about the over-population of dogs and cats. And recently the animal lover in her decided to put her effort where her heart is. Maguire established Pedal for Pets and is conducting fundraising events to help supply funds for spay and neutering in conjunction with the multi-county Georgia Heartland Humane Society and the H.E.L.P. Mrs. Julia W. Williamson of Newnan died Friday Dec. 30, 2011.

Mrs. Williamson was a member of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church.

She retired from Ga. Tech as a bookkeeper in the college book store.

Newnan theater seeking talent for slate of shows

NCTC is offering auditions for three new shows. “All experience levels are welcome,” said Artistic Director Paul Conroy. “If you think you’d like to be in a show, you should just take the chance and audition. You might win a part in a chorus or even a lead role.”

“We have a talented group of regular performers,” added Conroy. “At the same time, we’re always looking for new faces. It’s good to have as wide a pool as possible to cast your net.” Read More»

NCTC offers 2012 Youth Theatre Workshops

Newnan Community Theatre Company is offering Youth Theatre Workshops January 7 through May 19,. The workshops are a series of Saturday morning and afternoon classes aimed at elementary and middle school students.
