Missouri Massengill, age 86, of Newnan

Mrs. Missouri Massengill age 86, passed away on April 16, 2012 at her residence in Newnan Ga.

She was born in Claiborne, Tenn. to the late Ira Cosby and Ethel Bradford.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wint Massengill.

She is survived by her sons, Ned Massengill and his wife Jeannie, and Darrell Massengill and his wife Leigh. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wed. April 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Harvest Tabernacle Baptist Church in Jonesboro Ga., with Dr. Joe Arthur officiating. Read More»

Shenandoah Blvd. in Newnan to get rehab

The rehabilitation of Shenandoah Boulevard was approved April 3 by a unanimous vote of the Coweta County Commission.

Commissioners approved the $1.337 million low bid by C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. that will rehabilitate the roadway between Ga. Highway 34 and Lower Fayetteville Road. Read More»

Hogansville man faces murder charge in Newnan shooting

A Hogansville man has been charged with murder in the March 31 shooting death of Newnan resident James Christopher Johnson III outside the Corner Tavern.

Newnan Police Chief Buster Meadows said detectives were called to the Corner Tavern on the Newnan Crossing Bypass in reference to a shooting on March 31 at approximately 11 p.m. Arriving at the scene, Detective Sgt. Brent Blankenship responded to the scene and was advised that 25 year-old James Christopher Johnson III of Newnan was shot one time in the chest by Adam Lee Edmondson, 26, of 227 Oak Street in Hogansville, Meadows said. Through even the darkest days with her terminal illness, she "gave God the glory" and entered into glory the way she lived her life. G. Belinda Stanford McEachern died unexpectedly Feb. 25, 2012 while on a cruise in the Caribbean.

She was born Feb. 11, 1953, the daughter of Glover Kenneth Stanford and Betty Jones Stanford.

Local author will appear at horror convention

Newnan resident Christina Barber has written both fictional books and short stories in the horror genre and has also written a non-fiction book, “Spirits of Georgia’s Southern Crescent.” She will be at the Days of the Dead convention at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center this weekend, discussing her books and her new television show, “Hometown Haunts,” which should debut on Charter this spring. Members of Lisbon Baptist Church announce that they have called a new pastor for the church. Danny Wilson, of Newnan accepted the position effective Feb. 19.

Wilson formerly served at Unity Baptist Church in Newnan.

He and his wife Lynn have two sons, Brian Wilson and his son Zach, a senior at Georgia Southern University, and Cliff Wilson, his wife Lauri and their children Max, and Amelia, all of Newnan. Read More»
