‘Decisions for end of life’ seminar set for tomorrow

An Adult Speaker Series will be launched at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Newnan, with the program entitled “Making Health Care Decisions Near the End-Of-Life” It will be presented by Dr. Carl Hug, M.D., Ph.D., on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the church.

Hug serves as professor of anesthesiology emeritus at Emory University School of Medicine.

No reservations are required and the public is invited to attend.

St. Mary Magdalene is at 3 Village Rd., directly behind the new Coweta Public Library, and just off Ga. Highway 154 and Lower Fayetteville Road.

Newnan man convicted in federal drug case

Newnan resident Juan Campos-Reyes was sentenced in federal court Jan. 11 to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges relating to his part in a multi-state cocaine trafficking organization based in Mexico. Wadsworth & Friends Concert set for March 6

The Newnan Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) has announced the date of the 18th Annual Wadsworth & Friends Concert set for Saturday, March 6 at 7:30 pm at Newnan’s Wadsworth Auditorium. Lessie Mae Lovelace, Newnan, died Jan. 5, 2010. She was born April 18, 1923 in Newnan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Geneva Lovelace and was the second oldest of eight siblings. Newnan Fire Dept. gives Life Saver awards

The City of Newnan Fire Department honors its firefighters with their Annual Life Saver Award for 2009. The recipients of this award have saved a life while on duty in 2009. There were nine firefighters this year who accomplished this goal with three lives saved. Read More»

St. Paul’s Episcopal serves meals on Christmas Day

About 40 home-bound patients and the residents of the Angel House women’s shelter received a hot meal on Christmas day, courtesy of parishioners from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan.

More than 70 parishioners left behind their freshly unwrapped presents to meet at the church on Roscoe Road to prepare and deliver the lunch of ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, green-bean casserole, pudding, milk and juice.

For more than a decade, the church has ensured that people served by the Means on Wheels program are fed when their usual volunteers take a day off. Read More»

St. Mary Magdalene to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 12

A special celebration will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 12, to honor the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of all the Americas. A special Mass will be held at noon followed by a festive lunch in the parish hall. All are invited.
Father Fernando Molina-Restrepo, pastor of St. Theresa’s in Douglasville, will be the chief celebrant of the bi-lingual Mass, and Father Daniel Fleming, pastor of St. Mary’s, will be con-celebrant. This is the first celebration of the feast day at St. Mary Magdalene. Read More»
