St. Paul’s Episcopal serves meals on Christmas Day

About 40 home-bound patients and the residents of the Angel House women’s shelter received a hot meal on Christmas day, courtesy of parishioners from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan.

More than 70 parishioners left behind their freshly unwrapped presents to meet at the church on Roscoe Road to prepare and deliver the lunch of ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, green-bean casserole, pudding, milk and juice.

For more than a decade, the church has ensured that people served by the Means on Wheels program are fed when their usual volunteers take a day off. Read More»

St. Mary Magdalene to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 12

A special celebration will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 12, to honor the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of all the Americas. A special Mass will be held at noon followed by a festive lunch in the parish hall. All are invited.
Father Fernando Molina-Restrepo, pastor of St. Theresa’s in Douglasville, will be the chief celebrant of the bi-lingual Mass, and Father Daniel Fleming, pastor of St. Mary’s, will be con-celebrant. This is the first celebration of the feast day at St. Mary Magdalene. Read More»

Coweta Commission to consider small farm proposal

The Coweta County Commission has scheduled a public hearing on Dec. 15 to consider a Neighborhood Agribusiness provision to the county zoning ordinance. The measure surfaced in July at the request of Fayetteville resident Scott Tyson who wanted to establish a small farm operation for sustainable agriculture, organic farming and agritourism on his 10-acre Sharpsburg property.
The Coweta County Planning Department is recommending approval of an ordinance amendment that would create Neighborhood Agribusiness zoning in the Rural Conservation zoning district. Read More»

Newnan Police go high tech for missing children

Newnan Police Chief Douglas ‘Buster’ Meadows has formalized an agreement with the A Child Is Missing Alert Program that has led to a high tech method now in place to search locally for missing children, missing elderly (often with Alzheimer’s), college students, and missing persons who may be mentally or physically challenged or disabled. Local Cadet Squadron participates in training weekend in Hogansville

On the November 13, 14, and 15 the cadets of the Newnan Coweta Cadet Squadron held their Fall 2009 Basic Cadet Training weekend in Hogansville. A BCT is a weekend training exercise designed to teach cadets search and rescue skills and leadership for the future.
The cadets arrived to the Flat Creek Campground outside of Hogansville that Friday. After their gear was inspected by the staff, the cadets set up a camp for what would pass for home during the next 36 hours. Saturday was filled with many activities. Read More»
