Church has novel idea: lobsters for Mother’s Day

For people looking for a different present for Mother’s Day this year, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan is offering a novel opportunity -— a full, lobster dinner.

Members of the church are taking orders for complete dinners to take home on the day before Mother’s special day. The only thing left to supply is the candle light.

Since all of the lobsters will be flown in live from Maine, they will have to be ordered by May 1. Read More»

Newnan and the Carnegie honored by the Georgia Trust

The City of Newnan and the Carnegie has received the award for Excellence in Rehabilitation from The Georgia Trust. The award was presented April 9 during The Georgia Trust’s Spring Ramble in Rome, Georgia at the DeSoto Theatre. Mayor Keith Brady was at the award ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the city. This time last year a small handful of people in Coweta and Fayette counties decided to mirror similar efforts planned across America by protesting their dissatisfaction with the federal government at Tea Party rallies on Apr. 15. Hundreds attended the local rallies. Now with local mailing lists totaling a few thousand, the South Atlanta Tea Party Patriots, the Coweta Tea Party and the Fayette/Coweta 9.12 Patriots will be holding rallies again this year on Apr. 15 in Peachtree City and Newnan. Newnan Spring Tour of Homes coming Apr. 17

The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present “An Evening of Moonlight and Roses” – its 33rd annual Spring Tour of Homes – on Apr. 17, in Newnan, the “City of Homes”. The tour is from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes homes predominately in the College-Temple Historic District. Ethica purchases Newnan Nursing & Rehab Center

Newnan Hospital, Inc. announced Apr. 2 that the Newnan Hospital Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been sold to Macon-based Ethica Health & Retirement Communities.

Newnan Hospital Inc. has operated the 143-bed nursing home, located at 244 Broad St. in Newnan, since purchasing it in 1994 when it was Beaulieu Convalescent Center. When Piedmont Healthcare bought Newnan Hospital in 2007, Newnan Hospital Inc. retained the nursing home because Piedmont did not operate nursing homes. Read More»

Car show in Newnan next Saturday

The Depot History Center at 60 East Broad Street in Newnan, will be the scene of an automobile exhibit: “Automobiles through the Decades.” The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present the exhibit on Saturday, Apr. 17 in conjunction with their Tour of Homes. The exhibit will be open from 2-8 p.m. and feature a vehicle from each decade, from a one horsepower buggy of the 19th century to a 400 horsepower automobile of the 21st century. Admission will be free.

NITWITS at NCTC this Saturday

If you’re looking for something different and fun to do this Saturday evening, Newnan Community Theatre Company is offering an evening of comedy for $5 per person. Their improvisational comedy troupe, the NITWITS will be performing skits on a variety of themes.  Audience participation is often part of the show.
