The Newnan Youth Council (NYC) recently got a taste of Georgia state politics during their visit to the State Capitol. The Youth Council had the chance to visit with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and also Lt Governor Casey Cagle. The youth were invited to have lunch with State Representative Lynn Smith, State Representative Billy Horne and State Senator Mitch Seabaugh during their field trip to the Capitol. Read More»

Legal Eyed Drive CD release party tomorrow night at The Alamo

Local indie recording artists Legal Eyed Drive will be holding a CD release party for their self-titled debut album at 8 p.m. tomorrow (March 19) at The Alamo in Newnan, Ga.

The band has been playing a limited schedule of selected venues to prepare for the recording of their first release. They have frequently played at local establishments in and around the Atlanta area. Band members include lead vocalist/guitarist/ songwriter- Ken Luellen, drummer- Phillip Neill, acoustic rhythm guitarist- Max Haygood, bassist- Steve Salamanca, and guitarist/ background vocalist- Chad Alexander. Erin Daye Moore and Brandon Mark Bangsboll were married at Dunaway Gardens in Newnan on Oct. 10, 2009. The bride’s pastor, the Rev. Justin Kollmeyer, conducted the wedding.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Moore of Brooks. She is the granddaughter of Lee Goddard of Lawrenceville and Jennie Mae Moore and the late Daye Moore of Old Fort, Tenn. She is a graduate of Fayette County High School with an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and a master’s from Georgia Institute of Technology. Martin L. Justice, 29, of Newnan died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

He was born June 9, 1980 in Atlanta to Kyle & Gay Justice.

NCTC announces auditions for ‘Brer Rabbit Stories’

Boys and girls, ages 5 to 12, are invited to audition for Newnan Community Theatre Company’s original production, “Brer Rabbit Stories.” Brer Rabbit is a trickster who uses wit and words to escape from sticky situations. The author who popularized the Brer Rabbit stories is Joel Chandler Harris. He was born in Eatonton , Georgia .
