The soldiers of Newnan’s National Guard Bravo Company 2/121 marched through downtown Saturday afternoon in route to a ceremony in their honor at the First Baptist Church. The unit has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Newnan Catholic church members will honor their patron saint July 21

Members of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Newnan are preparing to honor their patron saint. Although the official date is Thursday, July 22, the parish is planning a vigil Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21. The special liturgy will focus on the saint’s life and her faithful dedication and following of Jesus Christ.

Saint Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross on which Jesus was crucified, accompanied by his mother Mary. She was the first disciple to find that he had risen from the dead as he promised and she proclaimed his Resurrection to the other apostles. Read More»

Southcrest Church in Newnan will offer Worship Music Camp for youth

Youth in grades 6-12 in the south Atlanta area may be interested in attending a Worship Music Camp in Newnan, which will be held June 21-15 at Southcrest Church, 365 Walt Sanders Memorial Drive.

The cost is $150. Individual sessions also are available at $20 per session.

There will be clinics for voice, guitar, bass, drums/percussion and keyboards led by top music instructors who are worship leaders. Each day will start at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. and will have scheduled individual sessions starting at 1:30 p.m. Read More»

Mosquito control in effect for the City of Newnan

The Public Works Department will begin a mosquito management program in June and continue through September, fogging Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., weather conditions permitting.  Read More»

Grand opening of Newnan's Lynch Park pool set for June 12

The City of Newnan and Coweta County officials will hold a ‘Pool Party’ at the completely new pool at Lynch Park on Saturday, June 12 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will kick off the grand opening of the new pool. There will be no admission charge for the pool party.  

Music by Musicology will be at the event. Free hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, and sno- cones will be all part of the day’s activities. Newnan Police and Fire will be on hand to talk to children. Read More»

Kwakye earns B.A. from Agnes Scott

Candace Kwakye of Newnan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, she also graduated Cum Laude, during May commencement exercises at Agnes Scott College. Kwakye is the daughter of Theresa Kwkaye and Richard Kwakye.

Jennifer Laine Brinson engaged to Joseph Henry Philpott

Mr. and Mrs. David L. Brinson of Newnan announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Laine Brinson, to Joseph Henry Philpott, son of Mr. and Mrs. David W. Philpott of Conyers.

The bride-elect is a 1999 graduate of Fayette County High School and 2004 graduate of Georgia State University where she earned a bachelor of music education degree.
