NCTC announces auditions for ‘Brer Rabbit Stories’

Boys and girls, ages 5 to 12, are invited to audition for Newnan Community Theatre Company’s original production, “Brer Rabbit Stories.” Brer Rabbit is a trickster who uses wit and words to escape from sticky situations. The author who popularized the Brer Rabbit stories is Joel Chandler Harris. He was born in Eatonton , Georgia . Thomas Hamilton Vickery

Thomas Hamilton "Tom" Vickery Jr., 83, Griffin, died Feb. 1, 2010. He was born Nov. 17, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hamilton and Robbie Burnham Vickery, and sons Ronald Vickery, and Donald Vickery. He served in the United States Merchant Marines and upon returning to civilian life, worked in his father's painting contracting business. He later pursued a career in law enforcement, retiring with the rank of lieutenant after 28 years on the Newnan Police Department. He enjoyed traveling and spending time on Greenwood Lake in Heard County. Read More»

Cynthia S. Whiteman

Cynthia S. Whiteman, 55, Newnan, died Jan. 27, 2010. She had taught school in Clayton County for 30 years. During her teaching career she was frequently voted the Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year for her school. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Edwards Sylvester in 1985. Services were at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Herzen Andone officiating. Read More»

Ministry cofounder dies unexpectedly

A Better Way Ministries co-director Tony Ingram passed away unexpectedly Sunday night.

A Better Way founder John Barrow said Monday that cofounder and musician Tony Ingram died Sunday night of what is believed to have been a heart attack. Ingram is survived by a wife and two small children.

Barrow said Ingram was a director and one of three charter members of the ministry that opened its doors five years ago. Read More»

NCTC announces auditions for “Death of a Salesman,” Feb. 1 and 2

The American classic, ”Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller, is the story of a man in search of the American Dream.

Auditions for the drama will be held on Feb. 1 and 2 at Newnan Community Theatre Company in downtown Newnan. There are roles for eight men, ages 20s to 60s, and five women, ages 20s to 60s. Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. Actors may attend either evening to try out for a role. Those trying out for a role will be asked to do a cold reading from the script. The Newnan Community Theatre Company kicks off the 2010 season tonight with their production of “What The Butler Saw.” Written by Joe Orton, this over-the-top British comedy sets the farcical tone early, when Dr Prentice (played by Trey Stephens) tries to seduce his newest employee, Geraldine (played by Jennifer Sovik). When the good doctor’s wife catches him in the act, the fun begins. The characters fly in and out, and insanity takes over. Read More»

Jessie M. Cook

Jessie M. Cook Newnan, died Jan. 16, 2010. He was born Jan. 20, 1928 in Coweta County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Earlie Zachary Cook, four brothers, four sisters, and one child. No services are planned.. Survivors include 10 children; two sisters; two brothers-in-law; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
