Jesse Joseph McBride and Shannon Lynnette Edwards were married Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 in a candlelight ceremony at Trinity Anglican Mission Church in Atlanta. Alex Early of Newnan officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Edwards of Marietta. She is the granddaughter of Billie Crocker Edwards and the late Col. William W. Edwards of Macon, and Marian Massalon of Macon. Newnan hospice plans remembrance service Nov. 4

The annual Service of Remembrance sponsored by Healthfield Hospice will be held Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1250 Lora Smith Road, Newnan (corner of Lora Smith and Ga. Highway 34, west of Thomas Crossroads.)

Families whose loved ones have passed away within the past year are invited to share in this special time of remembrance.

The service includes music and lighting of candles for each person who is being remembered. A special reception for family members follows the service.

Harry T. Smith, 74, of Newnan

Harry T. Smith, 74, of Newnan, Ga. passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010 after a four-year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

He was born in 1936 in Charleston, Illinois and was raised in Toledo, Ohio. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1980 after over 20 years of service. He then joined Universal Studios in Los Angeles, Ca. where he retired in 1997 as a Senior Vice President. He later moved to Peachtree City, GA. then on to Colorado Springs, CO. until he was diagnosed with IPF, at which time he then returned to Georgia. Read More»

Builders hired for Newnan Cancer Hospital

Cancer Treatment Centers of America has announced the builders for its new five-story, $55 million cancer hospital that will be located in Ashley Park in Newnan. Construction is expected to begin in December.

CTCA spokesperson Maureen Upchurch said the team of Batson-Cook Construction and Okland Construction has been selected to build the Cancer Treatment Centers of America facility. The Newnan facility will be the company’s fifth cancer hospital, and its first in the Southeast. Read More»

St. Mary’ Magdalene’s ‘Friends of the Poor’ Walk set for this weekend at Carl Miller Park in Newnan

The first annual “Friends of the Poor® Walk” will get underway in Newnan in the form of a 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 25, benefiting the St. Mary Magdalene Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The event is a major fundraiser for the local society which directly aids those in need in Coweta County.

“As Vincentians, we see the personal tragedy of poverty firsthand and do much to alleviate it,” said Liz Durand, chairperson of the event. Durand said they were seeking individuals to participate in the 5K as well as corporate sponsors and volunteers. Read More»

Sandra Cathy Zimmermann engaged to Christopher Shane Hart

Sandra Cathy Zimmermann and Christopher Shane Hart announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late William and Deborah Zimmermann. She is employed at The Citizen Newspaper and Fayette Woman Magazine as an advertising sales representative.

The groom-elect is the son of Charles and Patsy Bohannon of Palmetto. He is employed by Maximum Fire Protection as an inspector.

The wedding will be on Oct.9, 2010, at Palmetto Baptist Church, Palmetto.

The couple will reside in Newnan after the wedding.

Wilcox birth

Cody and Kristen Wilcox of Newnan announce the birth of their son, Caelan Tyler Wilcox, born at 8:43 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2010, at Fayette Piedmont Hospital. Caelan weighed 7 lbs., 9.7 oz. and was 20.25 inches long. Grandparents are Michael and Annette Doyle of Peachtree City and Guy and Carol Wilcox of Tyrone. Great-grandparents are Mary Ann Ripple of Madison, Wis., Lorena Norred of Fayetteville, and Eileen Wilcox of Cumming.

Newnan 2010 property bills ready to mail

The 2010 property tax bills for City of Newnan residents will be mailed Wednesday, September 15 with a due date of October 29. The city would like to remind citizens that anyone owning property in the City of Newnan will receive two separate tax bills, one from the City of Newnan and one from Coweta County, each payable to the appropriate party and with different due dates.
