Applications for Newnan Christmas parade on Dec. 4 available on city website

The City of Newnan’s annual Christmas parade will be held Sunday, December 4, beginning at 3 p.m.  The parade begins at Temple Avenue Park and continues on Jackson Street and LaGrange Street to Newnan High School.  Sit down by the hearth and have some hot chocolate as this year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays”.  The parade will include floats, walking groups, decorated cars and trucks, and marching bands.  Read More»

Horses coming to Newnan to raise money for children's museum

The Newnan Coweta Historical Society will be putting on an event this spring where painted fiberglass horses will be on display in downtown Newnan.  People can purchase a horse to be painted and displayed.  All proceeds go to the historical society to benefit a planned childre's museum.  The deadline for sponsorship is October 15.  You can call 770-253-8866 for more information.

Dale W. Sweatman Jr., age 74, of Newnan

Mr. Dale W. Sweatman Jr., age 74, of Newnan, passed away Sept. 28, 2011.

He retired from Delta after 23 years of employment and was currently employed at the Clayton County Justice Center. Mr. Sweatman was a loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a Mason for 50 years.    Read More»

Lester Ray Duncan, 80, of Newnan

Mr. Lester Ray Duncan, 80, of Newnan, Ga., passed away on Sept. 14, 2011.

Mr. Duncan is a former resident of Lakewood Christian Manor. He retired from Genuine Auto Parts, where he worked as a parts delivery man.

Ground broken for the Newnan Centre

Ground was broken Sept. 9 for the 16,000 square-foot Newnan Centre on Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan. The facility is a project of the Newnan Convention Center Authority. The Centre for Performing and Visual Arts on Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan is about to get a new neighbor. The Sept. 9 groundbreaking ceremony for the 16,000 square-foot Newnan Centre means that by next July the side-by-side facilities will add another level of civic opportunities to the Coweta County community.

The Newnan Centre is a project of the Newnan Convention Center Authority. Like The Centre that will be situated directly to the east, the Newnan Centre is expected to provide another venue for meetings, arts and civic activities to Newnan and the Coweta County community. Read More»

  Mrs. Ruth Ann Adamek, 68, of Newnan, Ga,. passed away Aug. 29, 2011. She was born Feb. 20, 1943 in Bay City, Mich. and the daughter of Walter Knoerr & Ida Feinauer Knoerr.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & sister who spent many years as a kindergarten teacher and a Mary Kay director.

Haywood L. Freeman, 59, of Newnan departed his life on September 3, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 13, 1952 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Mrs. Jessie L. Freeman Whatley and the late Mr. Charlie Freeman.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, John C. Whatley.
