Smith & Maxwell’s bypass fiasco

Dennis Chase's picture

On May 18, this newspaper published one of my editorials where I described just how poorly Eric Maxwell and Jack Smith have been with decisions related to the environment. Please reread that article to refresh yourselves about that aspect of why you should not vote for either of these incumbents for Fayette County commissioner. Read More»

Dating the wrong man

Ronda Rich's picture

In a small town in Arkansas, I was leaving a social gathering of divorced women who had found solidarity in their situations. Many are women who, later in life, have found themselves divorced from influential men. And, as far as I could decipher, none of the divorces was of their choosing.

I was in town for a speaking engagement and had been asked to join them for their monthly gathering of pot luck and chit-chat because I am friends with one of the ladies. Read More»

Mayor: Honest differences of opinion exist about budget solutions

After reading the articles on Council’s recent meeting and workshop, you can see we have been busy but not without controversy.

Council agreed 5-0 to increasing grass cutting on secondary roads from every 10 weeks to every month. We also added 73 previously uncut areas.

Councilman Imker’s proposals for a 1 percent pay cut, reducing retirement benefits and mandatory furloughs were rejected 4-1.

After two of us voting to eliminate 27 jobs, cut benefits, increase contribution requirements and freezing wages last year, the lack of stomach comment by Councilman Imker was unjustified. Read More»

I don’t agree with everything at www.alliance4lifemin.org, which I credit with all the following information, but they recently reminded me again, as they did six years ago when I shared similar information with our Citizen readers, of the very important connection between our Christian faith and the start of our country. As we near the celebration of the Fourth of July, I ask again that we not forget this wonderful connection! Read More»

Some film sagas and its characters you never forget. Shrek, Indiana Jones and Edward Cullen are a few of these characters. Oh yeah, and Harry Potter, too. New 'Kid' kicks in the right direction

Kevin Thomas's picture

In 1984, there was a story of a teen that learned karate from a maintenance man because the kid got beat up by bullies. That was the plot of “The Karate Kid” then and now, except the kid in the new version learns kung fu. This version, set in modern-day China, is better in pace and action and great music is also present. Read More»

Fathers have had a hard time of it in recent years. The oldsters will remember T.V. programs such as “Bonanza,” “My Three Sons,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “The Cosby Show,” and even “I Love Lucy” where fathers were portrayed in an honorable and positive light. Read More»

Richest man in the world

Rick Ryckeley's picture

After years of hard work, raising four children and seeing them through college, the gentleman still was able to retire at age 52, a very wealthy man. Unfortunately, for the man who had everything, it wouldn’t be long before his life took a dramatic turn that sent it in a direction he never could imagine – all due to events not of his making. Life often does that. Read More»
