PTC goes Hollywood: ‘The Fred’ to appear in film
At some point in March 2011, The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater will be ready for its closeup. “The Fred” will be featured in the movie “Joyful Noise,” starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, and marked for a release on Jan. 13, 2012.
Parton and Latifah play two women who join forces to prevent a small-town gospel choir from shutting down.
The film, a comedy. will be written and directed by Todd Graff (“Bandslam” and “Camp”).
“The local production staff was scouting locations and had toured Mable House Amphitheater. When they asked if there were any other venues around, a friend told them about us,” Amphitheater Director Nancy Price said. Once they came to visit “The Fred,” Price told them all about the amenities including privacy, parking, backstage accessibility and the cast house. Another element to sweeten the deal was only charging the production for the day they filmed and not for the days they put up or took down the equipment.
Price also added that she had a strong base of season ticket holders and she would extend an offer to them to serve as extras for the day they filmed.
“I just tried to make it easy as possible for them,” Price said.
The date of filming will be set soon and the production will be filming at other locations in the Atlanta area in early 2011, including the Rialto Theatre.
Local residents have always looked at the amphitheater as one of the star attractions in the county, and when “Joyful Noise” is released, everyone will get to see it on the big screen.
