200 ‘high-paying’ jobs headed to PTC

Rezoning sought for supplier’s plant on part of Panasonic’s 60-acre campus

A supplier for Panasonic North America will be relocating its operation to Peachtree City, bringing an estimated 200 “high-paying” jobs that will be phased in over a period of several years.

Although the company’s name has not yet been released, the move was announced Monday during a public hearing on a rezoning that would allow Panasonic to split its current 60-acre campus to accomodate the new company.

Panasonic attorney Marty Pinover said the new jobs will be “bench work” positions that are “highly technical and high-paying” positions.

The new company, which will buy several buildings on the Panasonic campus, is also expected to be investing at least $1 million or to upgrade the facilities with new equipment as well, Pinover confirmed.

The company will likely take possession of a portion of the property in November, Pinover said. It will be located at the rear of the property, as Panasonic will keep its operations located at the front buildings directly off Ga. Highway 74.

The entire parcel includes more than 103,000 sq. ft. of office space.

The rezoning necessary to accomplish the parcel split was approved unanimously by the Peachtree City Planning Commission, but the final say on the matter rests with the City Council. Panasonic is asking the site to be zoned limited use industrial instead of its current designation as general industrial.

Panasonic’s 60-acre campus is located on Hwy. 74 South across from the intersection of Dividend Drive, and to the south of a vacant site owned by Sany America, which is zoned for a research and development use along with a small amount of on-site residences for Sany employees. To the south of the Panasonic campus are two undeveloped tracts zoned for general industrial use.

The rezoning includes a condition that the city be granted a 50-foot easement for a future cart path that would link the Flat Creek cart path bridge north to an existing path along Crosstown Road, officials said.

The rezoning was necessary to create different setbacks for the parcel so it can be subdivided, according to city Planning and Zoning Administrator David Rast.

Planning Commission Chairman Frank Destadio noted that it was “very good” for a company to be bringing new jobs into the city.

Although Panasonic in 2008 moved its manufacturing operations from the Peachtree City site to a factory in Mexico, the facility has “grown by leaps and bounds” in the past two years with the company spending about $5.6 million on the buildings in the last two years alone, Pinover said.

you appear to be a young, handsome, seemingly intelligent man. I have read your replies with interest and you are truly an agreeable young fraternity brother.
'haditwithhaddix' I get it, but is beneath you...... I say, 'Mike tear down those signs'.
I ask, can you contribute in this forum a suggestion of what your issues are, (other than the same ole same ole). Will you offer a suggestion, a thought, of what the issues are and how you understand. Is it possible you could request a meeting at city hall with our current and future mayor. you are a young handsome man, that has only presented one issue over and over and yes over again. Is it possible, do you have the future of the city in your interest. will you meet with our mayor and face to face discuss the future of PTC. You are a young handsome man, with I think intelligence, who could, if you will, listen, learn from our mayor. you could be the next in line if you will put on your listening ears, hear our mayor, learn the procedures and face reality. mayor haddix loves this city (I don't agree with everything) he puts his self out there. read his answers, there are no personal gains he is seeking, my god he has lived here for over half his life. listen, read, you are a smart and handsome man. "Tear Down Those Signs".

Thank you Pumpkin

.
I really appreciate your compliments but if you saw me in person you would think I was old and gray!
So Pumpkin, let my give you my perspective on this and maybe you will see the view from my perch. My only objective in this race or any other PTC election for that matter is simple: that those we trust in office have the best interest of Peachtree City and their constituents at heart.
To extrapolate further, that means that I am not looking for a mayor or a council member that agrees with my every position; only that they act in a manner that consistently shows they are trying to do what is best for the citizens.
I will reach out to the Mayor and Council and espouse my opinion occasionally, but for the most part I let them do their job which is to represent my interests. It seems to work best that way. So a meeting with the Mayor or the entire staff to air my vision of the future really doesn't contribute anything to my goal. I trust that those we elect are intelligent and responsible adults who will research the issues and do what they think is right in a professional and ethical manner...

Which brings us to Mayor Haddix. It is my opinion that he is is polar to this ideal. I believe, based on multiple events and actions over several years that Don Haddix consistently shows that he is trying to do what is best for Don Haddix, and most times that is at odds with what is best for the city and the citizens. This opinion isn't based on one isolated event that you say I won't drop, but is a behavioral pattern that rears its ugly head every time the Mayor opens his mouth. He is, in my opinion, a pathological liar who says what he believes will be most beneficial to himself at the cost of anyone who happens to be in his way. The actions that I bring up, and are outlined in the PTC PRIDE ads and website, are simply the best examples of this behavior, not the five or six single events we could find to create a facade of impropriety. Trust me, if we were to list every action and event the Mayor has done the last four years that were not in the best interest of the city, we could fill a shelf of books at the Peachtree City Library.
So here is the thing Pumpkin. I know you disagree with me. I know you think Mayor Haddix is God's gift to city government. You have argued for the Mayor quite valiantly and stuck to your guns. I admire you for that. Just like me, you are getting out your opinion about who should and shouldn't be elected. That's a wonderful thing. My hope is that folks in our great city will hear what I and the other citizens who have donated their time and money to the PTC PRIDE cause are saying and elect a new Mayor in a few weeks. I believe a re-election of Don Haddix would be bad for this city; so bad that I am willing to invest my time, money and effort to see that it doesn't happen.

Should we be concerned

that the Chinese who are in town right now being wined and dined by Kim Learnard and a few others are here to make another move close by?

After all, SANY is pretty much a nothing with no jobs created and they do own the land adjacent to the above rezone.

Panasonic, I applaud your investment in our community and wish you many, many more years of success here.

I was informed by Kim Learnard that this delegation came here via an effort by Joel Cowan who contacted her. Their mission is to study and aid them in their efforts at Urban, medical, etc development back home.

She contacted the CVB who is hosting the costs of their visit.

Nothing was said about any economic discussion for PTC.

I have not met them yet, but, obviously as Mayor, I have an obligation to greet them.

Haddix: Final Update

We met tonight and the head of their delegation and I talked for 2.5 hours about potentials for the future.

Joel Cowan was very pleased with the outcome.

Haddix: Potential

Whatever future discussions may uncover for mutual benefit.

It is a common practice to do explorations to see what is there and may provide an opportunity. They happen more than most understand.

It normally goes nowhere, but when it does it makes the whole process worth it.

I do not know why or who made this public, but it should not have been.

It all ties together, as in not advising the proper people, like the Mayor, City Manager etc and keeping it low key. That did not happen here.

What does that say to you?

Mere oversight?

Avoidance, would be my guess because you bring absolutely nothing to the party, except maybe a bad impression.

Agree, a leggy occidental trumps a stumpy inconsequental

Stay out of it butt breath. You are done in a few weeks and the rest of us will live on. We like the economic growth thing and are glad you are not part of the process. Apparently Kim and the Chicoms feel the same way. Just buzz off and let us have our city back. You are an embarrassment to the city and certainly not helpful to the process. Go away stubby.

Get the wax out of your ears

It's about sharing educational ideas, and nothing to do with PTC other than playing host.

Granted Haddix joining may result with a statement from the Mrs. wishing them a short stay, lol

H&f you talking to ME?

I suggest you rethink what you just said. The Peachtree City Convention and Visitor Bureau is hosting them and it has nothing to do with Peachtree City?

I think this city and state have shared just more than enough with the Chinese up to this point. Take a look at the google earth shot of that wasteland called SANY.

Refer to my previous google earth comment. That should answer your break question.

If they are hosting golf cart rides and sharing anything having to do with this city, especially when politicians are involved.
