The Children’s Village asks community for support

The Children’s Village at Christian City cares for abandoned, abused, and neglected children, who would otherwise have no safe place to go. These children are given a safe place to live, nutritious meals prepared by loving Christian house parents, and a comfortable place to sleep without the fear of abuse in the night or abandonment in the morning. The Children’s Village in Union City is asking for support from the community with the following:

• Sponsor A Child: Choose a boy or a girl to sponsor and receive their photo, profile and updates. $30 a month helps to pay for the child’s basic needs.

· Participate in the Griddle Gallop 5k run/1 mile walk or roll on Oct. 27. Free pancake breakfast afterwards.

· Donations to Graceland Thrift Store. Proceeds help to pay for the education of the children who live in the cottages. Volunteers are needed to work in the Thrift Store to accept donations, sort, and help with customers.

· Gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger, or Publix.

· Boxed macaroni and cheese, canned pasta, rice, and noodles.

· Kid-friendly cereals.

• Canned fruits and vegetables.

• Individually wrapped snacks and drinks for lunches.

· Cleaning products and high efficiency laundry detergent.

· Personal and dental hygiene items.

· Toilet tissue and paper products.

We Never Stand So Tall....

Please remember, "We never stand so tall as when we stoop to help a child!"

I've had the privilege to help with the Children's Village several times over the years. The first experience I had with this group of dedicated people was about 18 years ago. Being able to interact with those children and their house parents will stay with me for a lifetime.

The term "house parents" really doesn't give those "parents" the credit they are due. Those folks are loving "Moms and Dads!"

The Children's Village house parents provide children with the one thing they want and need the most, and that is a SAFE loving home where they are accepted and nurtured by parents who care. Those "Moms and Dads" give security, acceptance, and love so that some very fine young people will be able to succeed in life.

We would be extremely hard pressed to find a more worthwhile place to put our money, time, or contributions than Christian City's Children's Village.
