I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

Gov. Deal's budget The Georgia Film Academy Update

Anyone know how this works? This morning, the Atlanta Business Journal tweeted that the amount is $2.6 million. Then, this evening, Film Fayette tweets an AJC article, from an article about an hour later this morning, that the amount is now $500.000. Just like that, the amount is cut $ 2.1 million?

The Ga. House budget committee has just approved a mid-year budget that includes $2.6 million to jump-start the Georgia Film Academy. Full house approval will be Thursday.

The announcement to change the name of this county will be coming with it. Are you ready? Lights, camera, action....Meet the new FilmIT County, Georgia.

Everyone, smile and say cheeeeeeze, pleeeeaze!

Fayette Woman Honey Bourbon Meatballs Recipe

This looks good.

If I may be so bold, I would add one more step:

6. Sit yourself down on a comfy couch, tell your ever lovin' spouse to bring you a shot of some of that good old bourbon and put your feet up and enjoy. Tomorrow never looked so good. Cheers.

This is the most over-hyped

non-weather event of the decade. Know why? Last year, when the ice storm hit Atlanta in Feb., the blame game went into full force. The mayor, governor, FEMA, NOAA,, local meteorologists, TWC, all tried for days to place the blame on each other for not forecasting and being proactive to the potential for that storm.

I remember Glenn Burns on WSB TV finally came out and placed the blame squarely on the National Weather Service. And he got the other meteorologists to agree with him. Even though these large TV stations in the city have equipment far superior to the government equipment, they were not (probably still not) allowed to issue severe weather warnings without NOAA declaring so first. Which the NOAA never did. As a result, the NOAA was given a close look and who knows what else by the Barry administration, and told to never let any governor (especially a republican) come out and blame Barry's democrat administration for any weather woes again. The NWS, ever since, has issued warnings galore. Way, way in advance of any weather event. Even if they cannot even do so accurately, the mantra now is to err on the side of caution.

It also follows the new socialist mentality that those who live in this country don't have common sense to get off the road and stay home when bad weather is comes. Tractor trailers stay on the road until told to pull off the road. Which was way too late to avoid huge problems for road clearing. Corporate America has said, well, you work till the government tells you to stay home.

So, now we have premature warnings put out, huge losses in our economy from the shut down of the economy in those areas, all with the threat of being arrested if you are out and about. More indoctrination to the mentality that if the government doesn't say not to do it, then just keep on and put your common sense in your back pocket. Blindly follow the weather reports, even though I look out the window and can see on the radar that this storm is....nothing, other than some wind and light flurries. Creating a nation of babies. CNN, all day and night, have had reporters standing out on bare streets with no snow falling, spouting death and doom for the next 3 days. What a joke. This is no blizzard or nor'easter. I've been in many of both, and this doesn't even register as a blip. They have bare roads all over the east coast and New England. I have family in NE and they have NOTHING on the ground. Everyone is begging for snow, it is a huge economy boost for the ski areas and all winter outdoor sports.

The fact that not one broadcast network has come out and said this is a nonevent, should never have been forecast so early yesterday, says how much the networks are under the thumb of this administration. How much commerce has been forced to stop today and for the next 2 or 3 days over nothing, costing businesses millions of dollars for no reason.

I'm finished now. So silly. Such a waste.

And now I see the control freak non leader mayor tweeting out a video about junk in your trunk during bad weather warning. I rest my case.

Let us know when you see the erosion control being put in the lake bed in the next few weeks, will you? Should be quite scenic for the next few months. I wish they would put up some of those cameras on poles around the lake, like they do birdcams, so we can watch it real time from our devices online. Then we could all yap about it real time!:)

Ran the company for over 53 years.

His profound words from 1996 will live forever.

"Nothing can happen to a Tootsie Roll. We have some that were made in 1938 that we still eat. If you can't bite it when it's that old, you certainly can lick it."

Guess the same could be said for those of us still kicking, too.

Any argument that the government should own land much less lease it, is falling on deaf PTCO ears.

To the extent that government controls the suppy of available oil producting acreage it suppresses oil production.

Oil Industry Cherry-Picks Drilling Data to Mislead Public on Federal Lease Programs

The oil industry and its well-compensated apologists in Congress like to complain that the Obama administration is stalling oil production on public lands. The problem with that argument: it’s demonstrably false.

While plenty of environmental advocates may wish that President Obama was actively working to keep the fossil fuel reserves underground, the data tells a much different story.

In fact, according to new data released by the Department of the Interior, the amount of crude oil produced on onshore federal lands in 2013 was the highest it has been in over a decade.

BladderQ - So

So, I am not sure what you mean, are you saying that Mr. Obama is paying off the oil companies by giving them leases?

You do know that since Mr. Obama became President oil production on public lands has remained flat at 1.6 million barrels per day. Leases don't mean anything if you give leases on land that has little to no oil.

Actual oil production, from 2007 to 2012 has remained flat on federal lands and has increased 35% on non-federal land at 4.6 million BPD. These are based on oil sales and the disparity has gotten worse in 2013/14.

Data from www.onrr.gov

Oh yes, one more thing...the #1 country we import oil from is Canada, so why wouldn't we want to help them? You like Middle East energy?

Data from www.eia.gov

Somerby phase 2 going up

Drove in there yesterday and they are building 2 elevator shafts for the ends of the new 136 unit independent living 55 and over apartment building going in in front of the existing assisted living/memory care building. Looks like it will be 3 or 4 stories tall when done. Quite a complex that is going to be when finished. I think there are 30 condo units or cottages going in, too. They have covered over the boulders that they had piled up in the area behind Autozone and looks much better now. Zaxbys is another project going in soon, next to Autozone.

I haven't bought a gas stove in years but over the years I have

bought stoves and refrigerators, washers, dryers and water heaters from Clayton (individually owned, I think) Home Depot, Best Buy and years ago Sears. I never bought the extended warranties--last stove for my home and also last one I bought for my rental was from Home Depot. Have had no problems and actually got the best deals there. Good luck

In the last 12 years I've bought appliances from Clayton, Lowes, Best Buy, Sears and HH Greg. Other than avoiding HH Greg I would focus on the product and not worry to much about the retailer. They all try to sell extended warranties which consumer advocates say are a poor value. Look for the best Mfr. warranty especially for refrigerators which seem to be a LOT less reliable than in the past.

I favor Lowe's because:
I get a 10% Military Discount (in addition to whatever sales they have on).
They usually offer free delivery, setup and haul away old appliance.
I think Clayton will charge $40 for that.
They have numerous Brands to choose from.
Good point about Clayton is they normally service what they sell--others don't.

Good call, SPQR

I also avoid HH Gregg. I don't want to get mauled by 4 or 5 commission sales folks the moment I cross the sacred front door of a retail establishment.

I've bought from and used for service Clayton Appliance and I give them high marks, but it comes down to shopping around and sort of knowing what you want to start with. I have used Consumer Reports(online membership) for this kind of shopping for years and been very satisfied with their recommendations.

The extended warranty bit is usually disadvantageous to the consumer and a profit center for the retailer which is why they all push them hard.

Best Buy is pretty good

I am a shopper and look for the returns, generally they have small dings often in places you would never notice. I got a convection range from Lowes a few years ago, it was a $1800 stove (I need a slide in electric which is way more expensive) got it for $400 all it had was a small plastic piece that was cracked, got a replacement for $30..I also got a $550 Stainless dishwasher at Best Buy that was a return for $350 and a $900 dryer for $500..My Stainless Fridge was also a return to Home Depot had a small ding over the Whirlpool label for $800 on a $1500 fridge. If you have a day cruise the stores...

Talk about a leader who just is out front of every important issue for his country! And good for him to show up.

I heard Barry call PM Cameron today (at the WH joint press conference) by his first name to the press. He was answering a question and he called him David to the reporter. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a world leader, a true leader, and have to deal with Barry, while still attempting to show unity.

I read that Jews in France have been moving to Israel in record numbers for the last year or two. 7,000 in 2014 and expected to double this year, due to the antisemitism. And they are having a difficult time with assimilating with this move, too. We are just so blessed in this country.

Wouldn't it be grand if Bebe was invited to speak at Duke University? I won't hold my breath, though.

I also heard the real (unedited video) of "You've Got A Friend" went like this in France when JT sang it. Ready?

You just call out my name, and where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have do is call
and I will be there in about a week or so...
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, Barry's gonna be your friend.

I read today where Barry is recommending to Europe not to "simply respond with a hammer and law enforcement and military approaches to these problems". I guess the first group hug and acoustic serenade didn't do the trick.

Maybe this time Secretary Milquetoast will take Peter, Paul and a replacement Mary along for an acoustic version of "Kumbaya". After the group hug he could do an open mike segment where he reads passages from Barry's second favorite book, "The Vagina Monologues: The V-Day Edition".....

That dude that plays for the Colts can flat out sling it, and moves pretty good too. Should be a good game.

I am curious as to why they chose that game for the late game and the Seattle game for the earlier game....seems it would have been switched....if nothing else to give the fans on the West Coast a little pregame tailgating time. Both games could have started around 3-4 local times...

I have no idea what happened, of course, but can't remember ever hearing of a man calling the cops to say he'd shot his wife twice in their bedroom at 4 am and then, rather than being arrested or sitting in an interrogation room, gets to visit her in the hospital a few hours later.

I'm With you Moe

I was surprised that Doug didn't do a little more fact checking.

This guy just got here in 2012 hardly a long time. Also he came from a FL county associated with the previous "chief"?? First we have the porn watching chief, then the next one "resigns", for cause mentioned in passing via the lawsuit taxpayers will pay for ?? Now this........ Is it really hard to find good honest people?

I will say that I'm thankful we have a good honest Sheriff for our county.

Why can't they get right? Shot once? Shot twice? 9mm or .45? Regardless, best of luck on recovery.

No spyguy, it is not hard to find good honest people

And of course we know next to nothing about this incident, so we can't exclude or include the Chief in a group of good honest people.

We can however state that Capt. Stan Pye, Former Captains Dove and Ernst and Lt. Mark Brown have certainly proven themselves to be good, honest and dedicated people and police officers. I would hope that if we need yet another new chief that some of them would be considered.

As far as Doug is concerned, he was recently made a weatherperson where fact-checking is done by others or maybe a computer.

Robert W. Morgan : Honest

Out of that group of afore mentioned only Captain Dove comes out as the winner. It's a shame they let her go. Many people have not so nice things to say about the others listed. Anyway, this whole affair is sad. Lets hope for a better 2015!

The only Atl noon news

today was Fox. Doug Evans standing live outside the home, said those words. Lead story. We can get enough speculation going without Fox creating their own. Man oh man.

PTC Police Chief placed on leave early this AM

This looks really bad, especially since the victim(his wife) was air-lifted and is in critical condition:

Congratulations are in order FCDA

Following a year long hiatus, the FCDA's website has been updated to show the current leadership.

Hopefully the new year will bring in up to date information throughout the remainder of the site in order to provide interested companies initial and up to date information as they consider moving into our fair county.

Why would any owner allow this Mike Smith story come out before the biggest game of the season? Everyone knows Smith isn't up to the job, but why DO that? Everyone can find fault with Matty, Dimitroff and the offense and the lack of hand soap in the restrooms, but I think it's time someone question old moneybags himself.

Just another day at the airline...

Source Fox News:

A passenger was tossed off a plane at La Guardia Airport on Tuesday after flipping out — because airline workers wished him a merry Christmas.

The man was waiting to board American Airlines Flight 1140 to Dallas when a cheerful gate agent began welcoming everyone with the Yuletide greeting while checking boarding passes.

The grumpy passenger, who appeared to be traveling alone, barked at the woman, “You shouldn’t say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas.”

The agent replied, "Well, what should I say then?"

"Don't say, 'Merry Christmas!'" the man shouted before brushing past her.

Once on the plane, he was warmly greeted by a flight attendant who also wished him a “merry Christmas.” That was the last straw.

"Don't say, 'Merry Christmas!'" the man raged before lecturing the attendants and the pilot about their faux pas. He was eventually led of the plane to a round of applause from passengers.

Hey moe,

You got that right!

While I was over in the far east a few years back, I seen something like this on a "Brand X" flight from Singapore to Honk Kong.

I don't know what they are saying but that flight attendant call chime in the background is damn annoying!

Tip of the Spear - The Law

A lot has been written in recent days about the continued protests across the country concerning police "sensitivity" for young Black males being killed or otherwise harassed by the police. These protests have been managed by city authorities in different ways depending on the city. In Atlanta and in New York City the protestors have been given wide latitude in causing disruption by closing down main thoroughfares in and around these cities. This has emboldened the protestors to push the limits of what the politicians will allow them to do. In addition, the Mayor of New York City has publicly supported these protestors, standing side by side with Rev. Sharpton. Rev. Sharpton has been the primary racial advisor of President Obama and part of the Left liberal elite. To say that the rhetoric has been intense would be an understatement and with the assassination of two police officers in Brooklyn the hyperbole has turned tragic. After months of police bashing by Rev. Sharpton, Mr. Holder, Mr. Obama and other appeassers, a career criminal, a sociopath, translated rhetoric into violent action against innocent officers doing their duty.

So, what does this all mean? What's at risk for us as citizens?

First, we need to acknowledge that there is a "higher calling" for people that choose to become defenders of our society and way of life. Our armed forces and police join these ranks, in part, because society holds these professions in high esteem. The attack on the police is reminiscent of leftist's attacks on our troops returning from Vietnam. Secondly, we need to understand that the police represent the actionable part of law. Our political system allows representative government to institute laws to protect our way of life. Laws require force and the most crucial laws are those instituted to protect citizens against evil. In order to carry out law enforcement against evil, the police must go where evil exists. This means where crime exists. They by their presence, represent civil society in areas of our community that choose to ignore or violate law. They are the tip of the spear of law and civil society. Finally, we must recognize that law enforcement is a choice. We can either enforce laws or we can turn our society into chaos. Not respecting our police and the role they play in our society, empowering those that have the most to gain by police retreat and demoralizing the ranks of our police will lead to far worse outcomes than those that happened in Brooklyn on Saturday.

Does this mean the police are perfect, absolutely not. What it does mean though is we need to keep things in perspective, a reaction to a small percentage of "bad cops" shouldn't destroy the entire system, it certainly shouldn't be used as a method to reduce law enforcement where crime occurs. If we do this, then we are dishonoring those two police officers that gave their lives attempting to protect us and we open ourselves to mob rule.

Tomorrow, go out and find a policeman and tell them how much you appreciate their service.
