FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

Obamacare and Medicare in Fayette County

The new beginnings kick in on July 1st. Anyone get the letter from Dept. of Health and Human Services in DC? Get used to this new phrase:

Competitive Bidding Program

Medicare will no longer deal with suppliers of durable medical goods that do not agree to the "contract price" that Medicare sets, even if you, the recipient, agree to pay the difference in what the supplier charges and Medicare will pay. They claim there will some grandfathering of existing suppliers, but don't count on it.

A discussion with Freedom Medical Care in Fayetteville has opened my eyes to how our federal government will control what I can buy for a wheelchair, a hospital bed, a walker, scooter, oxygen and related supplies and other durable medical goods.

We will see storefronts such as Freedom no longer offering supplies such as those above due to the fact that they cannot make enough of a profit to survive. Potentially, stores such as these could close.

Fayette County residents will no longer have a choice, will have to rely on middlemen set up in industrial parks out of county that will provide a very limited choice and no customer service (other than by phone and an actual delivery person).

Anyone who will be in need of these supplies coming up, get your physician to prescribe them now, and get them before Jul 1st, since you might have to wait for days or longer to have them come from suppliers in north Atlanta instead when this new program kicks in.

If you or your elderly parents or relatives or neighbors are not familiar with this, make sure to pay attention to this huge change in coverage. Finding a "supplier" as of July 1st will be a whole new experience.

Cy IRS

About 40 years ago, when my sister was just out of college, she rented an apartment in a private home. The homeowner was an IRS agent. She didn't have a clue how to file, so she asked for his help. He not only helped, he did her taxes, for free for years and showed her how to claim things that, shall we say, we're nonexistent. He knew how broken the system was then and was so bold as to know he nor she would ever be found out. I learned a lot at an early age about the IRS, and so did my sister. Nothing since has changed my opinion that the system is a sick joke on all of us.

Now, as you say, this sick joke (pun intended) will be in the middle of every decision made on our health. (Eyes rolling here, too)

*** COURT RULING ON RACE AND VOTING DISTRICTS ***

Here is what the Federal Judge said about Fayette County's voting districts:

"Here, it is undisputed that no African-American has ever been elected to the BOC or BOE and that voting in Fayette County is racially polarized in BOC and BOE elections. Based on the heavy weight of those two factors along with the other factors identified above that weigh in Plaintiffs’ favor, and having conducted a “searching practical evaluation of the ‘past and present reality’” of the challenged electoral scheme…..the Court finds that the “dots” of circumstantial evidence, ….. form together to show that African-Americans “have less opportunity than other members of the electorate to participate in the political process and to elect representatives of their choice. Thus, the Court is satisfied that “under the totality of the circumstances, [African-Americans in Fayette County are] denied meaningful access to the political process on account of race or color.”

That's Racist!

"Our country has now twice elected a black person to serve in the highest office in the land," Leah Aden, assistant counsel for the Legal Defense Fund said in a release. "Today's decision provides an opportunity for Fayette County to embrace its racial diversity and finally integrate its political process and provide avenues of voting opportunity for all of its citizens."

All citizens already have the same voting opportunity. what Ms. Aden is basically saying is that white people can be represented by black politicians, but that white people are not good enough to represent black people.

The next step in this process will be for the Fayette County school system to lose it's accreditation, just like Clayton and Fulton counties.

Mr. Mrosek - Oh!

Surprise, surprise!

Now what about Asian Americans? or Hispanic Americans?

The courts need to get with the program here and make sure that every possible division of our diverse society is represented. The fact is there are citizens that are simply not represented here and we need to correct this injustice!

All of this if fine and dandy, except for the fact that the

first thing the illegals learn when they get here, or even before, is that they can go to Duluth or several other places and get every and any forged document they need including fake drivers licenses.

Great News from Gov. Deal

Yesterday, he signed into law Senate Bill 160, eff. July 1st, which prevents illegals from getting a drivers license, grants, retirement benefits and public housing in Ga. Foreign passports cannot be used, either, to get public benefits unless they have paperwork proving they are here legally.

Maybe we can reclaim Taco Trail behind Crimeony Village and empty that place out at the same time. Watch those vans pack up and move on out. Thanks, guvnuh!

So, no drivers license for illegals. What does that do?

Well, it doesn't prevent them from getting behind the wheel of a van and running into you, because after all they are illegals and illegals do illegal things. It does mean that they won't have insurance when they run into you and then away from you. Has that been thought out before this law was passed? No I didn't think so.

It makes it easier for law enforcement to lock them up at road blocks. No insurance? No tags!!! Recent history has shown that illegals tend to leave areas that make things hard for them. What would you have done. Just said it's ok for illegals to have a drivers license? Thereby making it easier to get a job, benefits, etc?

Yes the law of unintended consequences will now increase our insurance premiums for uninsured motorist protection. It's probably worth the trade-off of reduced government benefits for those who "broke in line" or avoided the line altogether.

I think maybe this has to do with Ga. has opted out of the federal program for Obamacare/Medicaid. I have not read up on it, but the free medical care burden by the illegals is crippling all states. If Ga. is not going to opt in and is going to go it alone, those costs have to come down. This might be one step to doing something that should have been done 10 years ago.

There are plenty of americanos here who have no insurance. They just drive better.

Hi Cy, welcome home again

With the Republicans wanting to win the hispanic vote and be a "more inclusive" party, how many do you think would vote no due to a clause in an illegal immigrant bill that would have free health care for the illegals as part of the package? If we thought Obamacare would bankrupt our country (without including the illegals), add over a million more illegals to the system and watch it totally collapse.

"The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward (1926–2001) and Frances Fox Piven (b. 1932) that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty".

Oh, and if we give illegals healthcare I'm reasonable sure we'll have even more.

The Simpson-Mazzoli Act was a complete failure and we'll soon have the new and improve version which, IMO, will not do what it's intended to do.

WSB-TV just did a story on complaints of dogs vomiting, being listless, and developing tumors that some feel comes from the dry dog food from this plant. Irish Job Application

Murphy applied for a fermentation operator post at a famous Irish firm based in Dublin. An American applied for the same job and since both applicants had similar qualifications, they were asked to take a test by the manager. When the results were in, amazingly, both men had only one wrong answer.

The manager went to Murphy and said, "thank you for coming to the interview, but we've decided to give the American the job."

Murphy asked,"And why would you be doing that? We both got 19 questions correct. This being Ireland and me being Irish surely I should get the job."

Manager, "We have made our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed."

Murphy, "And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?"

Manager, "Simple. On question number 7 the American wrote down, 'I don't know'. You put down, "Neither do I."

Happy St. Paddy's Day, Moe,

Happy St. Paddy's Day, Moe, from someone 1/4 Irish. Have a good one.

Now I will tell my Irish joke...

An Irishman walks into a bar in Ireland orders three pints of Guinness and sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.

The bartender asks him, "You know, a pint goes flat after I draw it; wouldn't you rather I draw fresh pints for you one at a time?" The fellow replies: "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is now in America and the other, in Australia. When we all left home, we promised we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The fellow becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way: He orders three pints and drinks them in turn.

One day, he comes in and orders two pints. All the regulars notice and fall silent, speculating about what might have happened to one of the absent brothers. When the fellow goes back to the bar for a second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your great loss." The fellow looks confused for a moment and then a light dawns in his eye and says: "Oh, no, everyone's fine. You see, it's just that I've given up beer for Lent."

My paternal great-grandmother, Annie Gilhooly and my maternal grandfather, Billy Boyle have me at more than half Irish. As Bill used to love to say, my best half, of course.

I will leave you with this thought:

A true Irishman considers anyone who won't come around to his point of view to be hopelessly stubborn.

Collapsing underground sewers on SR-74, South of SR-54

Someone from the Peachtree City Water and Sewage Authority please inspect State Road 74, as you go south, from TDK Boulevard toward Dividend Drive.

There are two major dips on that part of the road, specially on the right lane.

The first dip starts on a curbside storm drain, which suggest that the culvert below is collapsing.

The second one is further down the road.

With the amount of truck traffic on the road, these dips have been sinking more and more from month to month. One of these days the road may cave in altogether and there may be a major accident there.

Speaking of sewers, check out the pipe near Pkway and Windgate

Stopped on an extra long run yesterday to see the result of all that work last month. This is north of the underpass below Peachtree Parkway next to the church. They removed the old bridge, improved the drainage, did a bunch of landscaping - really good work. However, the exposed sewer pipe which certainly needs to be there is exposed and accessible and slippery - just waiting for a kid who can't resist a high wire act over the stream. No signs, no barricades, no nothing. Accident waiting to happen.

We have lazy wimpy kids and some parents afraid to tell the kids to get off their butts and go outside to play with friends. It's important to play alone and with peers without grown ups organizing everything as it helps children develop imagination, interaction with peers and compromise. (We are building future leaders like the mayor who doesn't play well with others and still has an imaginary friend, Pumpkin)

When I was a kid it was punishment to make us play alone inside.

Let the kids fall and fail once in a while and maybe we won't have future mayors whining to the editor when they don't get their way.

Let the kids fall and break an arm to teach them that sometimes risks have consequences you have to live with without parents bailing them out or making excuses for them.

We are building a nation of kids with selfish attitudes, strong thumbs, bad eyesight, and deaf ears due to parents giving them video games, computers, iPods, and cell phones instead of demanding that they do things on their own.

Wowza-PTC Planning Comm Agenda

this Monday evening for a workshop only to discuss:

World Gym wants to close on Hwy 54 and build a 21,000 ft. gym with pool along Lexington Circle, in front of the army barracks town homes. They are going to keep the one at Westpark open.

Marriott wants to have a Fairfield Inn (4 story-88 rooms in 1st bldg.) (2nd bldg. later in expansion phase 2 in a separate building next door with 75 more rooms) at Hwy 74 and Wisdom Rd on 2.8 acres (I think in the back where the empty lot is next to the access road around the back of the gas station).

Gerresheimer-Wilden Plastics on Hwy 74 South will present a future rendering of a potential master plan for 182,000 ft. expansion over 16 plus acres they have there now.

Will someone please hire some help for David and Jennis? Anyone who is interested in any of these should go to see just how good this current Planning Commission is and put your two cents in during this informal format that is so beneficial to the whole process.

Wowza Find a better location.- although, 2 out of 3 ain't bad

World Gym? Hiding the Lexington townhomes - right on! No brainer.Go get 'em Dar.

Marriott? No thanks Willard and your magic underwear. Find a better location. Like maybe tear down something ugly and build the Fairfield there. Need Ideas? Willowbend Center. Williams Circle. Pit Stop. Racetrack - get this one now before it is built. Maybe the old World Gym site - or anything out there in the prairie between us and the new film studio. How I love knowing that is coming. Dar knows more about this than he is letting on and it would be good to watch his moves. I would anyway, you dreamboat.

GW Plastics - no brainer. Expansion means jobs.

This Dar thingie has nothing to do with hotel rooms. Although, in your case, just maybe...oh never mind. However, you are required to blog on here with details if and when it happens. But seriously. A few things will keep them on the 74 corridor. The NCR training is going to ramp up even more in the next few years. Ka-ching. Marriott, hot pants or not, has no presence on the south side of Atlanta (beyond the airport, where he flies in and out on his private jet) other than Springhill in Newnan and Fairfield in McDonough. They need to fill in the gap. Gone are the days of referrals from one brand to another, even a few miles apart. Send the overflow to your brand partners, even if they are miles away.
We are it. Location, location, location. I'm gonna throw this out here, too. Don't anyone discount the Porsche headquarters coming to the south side from Sandy Springs and their quasi-connection to Marriott.
Seems the property owner has wanted this in this spot for the last 3 years or more, too.

Kaseem Reed in Vegas with Barry Obama

today. Anyone who thinks this was a trip just to see the showgirls is wrong (of course, that part wasn't on the public agenda).

Kaseem is gonna run for Chambliss's seat. Barry's gonna make sure he has plenty of money. Barry wants him in DC, Kaseem is drooling at the mouth to be one of the big DC boyz. How many miles did they rack up on that plane at our expense today?

State of the Union

Is there a pool anywhere on which cadence Barry is planning to use for the speech tonight? Doesn't really matter though. I'd sooner watch a Honey Boo Boo marathon than watch the charlatan-in-chief try to convince the unwashed masses that we don't have a spending problem. We all need to realize we have a deficit problem, not a spending problem because Barry and Pelosi say so.

Get ready middle-class. As someone said here yesterday I believe....BOHICA.

Reed the Weed needs to get past the Handel

U.S. Senator gets voted upon by the entire state. Sure, Hotlanta goes for the bro, but the rest of the state is up with the anti-abortion chick. And a chick she is - good looking too, just lose 20lbs.

Think I've offended everyone except gays and topless dancers. Anyone know how I could work that in?

If you say so

but did any of us think Barry's name would even be in print after Nov. 6th? Stranger things have happened.

Mizz Alabama wouldn't think you're offensive, so don't sweat it.

Another tragedy has gotten overshadowed this weekend

Sec State Clinton has apparently suffered a "health emergency" that will prevent her from testifying as scheduled this Thursday before Congress about Benghazi. The poor thing had a stomach virus, fainted and hit her head, causing a concussion. It's a little unclear when this near-death experience occurred, but we can all rest assured that the relentless media is tripping all over themselves to uncover the timeline.

The State Department has graciously lined up a couple of her piss-boys to take her place at the hearing though, so the show can go on. Her doctors are so concerned with her precarious health situation that they have ordered her to stay away from the office and work from home this week, which lines up nicely with the upcoming Christmas break. The home confinement might even allow her ample time to complete her shopping online, God willing. Those cigars that Slick Willie prefers are supposedly pretty hard to find this time of year.

Current favorite for the next Sec State, John Kerry, was reportedly informed Saturday while polishing his service medals, and he "insisted" that she not appear at the hearing. Unconfirmed reports state that Uncle Joe Biden was also informed Saturday while combing the internet for good speeches to steal. He was reported to say "Most conservatives would have died from a fall like that. I know that old goat could kick my ass, and trust me, she has threatened to many times".

FALCONS WIN!

Man, is this team bulletproof? How many ways have they found to win this year? EGG-zactly what Atlanta needed tonight.

The Falcons seem to invent ways to win: the more unorthodox, the better. Best record in the NFL!!

11-1 Falcons!

Whatever it takes. Love to see a deep post-season run this year and silence the skeptics who quickly point out how Mike Smith/Matt Ryan have yet to win a playoff game. OK, I also think about that too and all of the Braves' teams that couldn't get it done in the playoffs either.....whatever. Good job Falcons yet again finding ways to win.

All the best, NUK...

...as I like what Mike Smith has done w/ the team, but lack of a real-threat running game will eventually catch up with them. Turner is just ok now, but not a break-away runner, and Rodgers is an easy tackle unless he has a lot of space. Teams are going to send lots of 4-5 man fronts at Ryan and make his arm beat them, IMHO.

I'd blog about my Chiefs, but it'd either be a long rant or nothing to say; word from home is they're looking at taking UGA's Murray in the 1st round. We've GOT to get rid of Cassell. :(

kc: Cassell is AWESOME!

OK, not!

I think the Falcs need to up their game or face a first round exit as Ryan has shown that he's getting a little skittish lately and the run D looks pretty woeful. This is a flawed team but no team that won the SB isn't for that matter. Time for them to step it up and Ryan especially. And Roddy White.
