FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

I think maybe this has to do with Ga. has opted out of the federal program for Obamacare/Medicaid. I have not read up on it, but the free medical care burden by the illegals is crippling all states. If Ga. is not going to opt in and is going to go it alone, those costs have to come down. This might be one step to doing something that should have been done 10 years ago.

There are plenty of americanos here who have no insurance. They just drive better.

Moe, Illegals and Obamacare

I just got back form LA where TV commercials are making the point that Illegals can't partake in the Obamacare scheme. The unwritten message is that it's sooooo unfair. Lets see how this plays out.

Hi Cy, welcome home again

With the Republicans wanting to win the hispanic vote and be a "more inclusive" party, how many do you think would vote no due to a clause in an illegal immigrant bill that would have free health care for the illegals as part of the package? If we thought Obamacare would bankrupt our country (without including the illegals), add over a million more illegals to the system and watch it totally collapse.

Try 20 Million...

...because by most estimates that is how many is really here..

The system will collapse and THAT is what they are trying to do..

"The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward (1926–2001) and Frances Fox Piven (b. 1932) that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty".

Sound familiar?

Sound familiar?

It sure does.

BTW, I honestly don't think the "Guv" has have any idea of how many are here illegally.

Oh, and if we give illegals healthcare I'm reasonable sure we'll have even more.

The Simpson-Mazzoli Act was a complete failure and we'll soon have the new and improve version which, IMO, will not do what it's intended to do.

Blue Knights Motorcyle Ride tomorrow

comes to Falcon Field PTC at around 11:30-12 noon from Turner Field. Last year, they came up Hwy 74 from Fayetteville and over to Starrs Mill and north to the airport. Find yourself a safe spot along Hwy 74 south of the airport to watch the parade of bikes and cruisers go by. If you have not seen this before, it is something to behold. Kids would enjoy it, too.

That, and the WWII Heritage Days at the CAF Dixie Wing will be going on, too.

Should be a fun day at the airport. Enjoy.

Is Neil Diamond pregnant?

Today at Fenway Park, it became obvious Neil must be enjoying the good cooking of his new Irish bride...either that or she has him carrying her/his heir.

Regardless, Neil should be enshrined either under home plate or in the Green Monster when his time here on earth is up. What a wonderful singer and a generous spirit for the city of Boston.

PRAYERS FOR BOSTON

Pray for thanks that our leaders have been able to contain this terror for 11 years. This bombing was horrific, yes, but not even in the top 3 attacks on U.S. soil. We are in a long war. Yesterday we lost a battle. Let's grieve the losses, pray for the survivors and give thanks that we have seen so little of this.

Purina Plant in Fairburn and Beneful dog food

WSB-TV just did a story on complaints of dogs vomiting, being listless, and developing tumors that some feel comes from the dry dog food from this plant. They claim the animals improved when taken off the food. Purina denies any connection. WSB asked for a tour and was denied by Purina. WSB has the last state inspection from May 2012.

Just in time for the stinky I-85 drive season to begin. Woof, woof.

Irish Job Application

Murphy applied for a fermentation operator post at a famous Irish firm based in Dublin. An American applied for the same job and since both applicants had similar qualifications, they were asked to take a test by the manager. When the results were in, amazingly, both men had only one wrong answer.

The manager went to Murphy and said, "thank you for coming to the interview, but we've decided to give the American the job."

Murphy asked,"And why would you be doing that? We both got 19 questions correct. This being Ireland and me being Irish surely I should get the job."

Manager, "We have made our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed."

Murphy, "And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?"

Manager, "Simple. On question number 7 the American wrote down, 'I don't know'. You put down, "Neither do I."

Happy St. Paddy's Day, Moe,

Happy St. Paddy's Day, Moe, from someone 1/4 Irish. Have a good one.

Now I will tell my Irish joke...

An Irishman walks into a bar in Ireland orders three pints of Guinness and sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.

The bartender asks him, "You know, a pint goes flat after I draw it; wouldn't you rather I draw fresh pints for you one at a time?" The fellow replies: "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is now in America and the other, in Australia. When we all left home, we promised we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The fellow becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way: He orders three pints and drinks them in turn.

One day, he comes in and orders two pints. All the regulars notice and fall silent, speculating about what might have happened to one of the absent brothers. When the fellow goes back to the bar for a second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your great loss." The fellow looks confused for a moment and then a light dawns in his eye and says: "Oh, no, everyone's fine. You see, it's just that I've given up beer for Lent."

Johnny O'Mro..right

back at ya!

I just finished my corned beef, boiled cabbage, taters, carrots and a lovely cold one. The smell of the corned beef will linger (yes, linger) for days, as usual.

My paternal great-grandmother, Annie Gilhooly and my maternal grandfather, Billy Boyle have me at more than half Irish. As Bill used to love to say, my best half, of course.

I will leave you with this thought:

A true Irishman considers anyone who won't come around to his point of view to be hopelessly stubborn.

Seems as if that one quarter might just have done you well! Happy St. Paddy's Day to you, also.

Collapsing underground sewers on SR-74, South of SR-54

Someone from the Peachtree City Water and Sewage Authority please inspect State Road 74, as you go south, from TDK Boulevard toward Dividend Drive.

There are two major dips on that part of the road, specially on the right lane.

The first dip starts on a curbside storm drain, which suggest that the culvert below is collapsing.

The second one is further down the road.

With the amount of truck traffic on the road, these dips have been sinking more and more from month to month. One of these days the road may cave in altogether and there may be a major accident there.

Speaking of sewers, check out the pipe near Pkway and Windgate

Stopped on an extra long run yesterday to see the result of all that work last month. This is north of the underpass below Peachtree Parkway next to the church. They removed the old bridge, improved the drainage, did a bunch of landscaping - really good work. However, the exposed sewer pipe which certainly needs to be there is exposed and accessible and slippery - just waiting for a kid who can't resist a high wire act over the stream. No signs, no barricades, no nothing. Accident waiting to happen.

How are kids to learn if they don't fail? We may have the next Walenza within our community. A broken arm or leg is a right of passage.

It's too bad our world has become so litigious and parents want to blame everyone but their own kids

Old fashioned fun with a broken arm? Not sure guys.

40 years ago - not a problem. Nowadays we have stupid kids, wimpy kids and lawyer's kids. We also have a city that is self-insured. Look at it next time you are down that way.

We have lazy wimpy kids and some parents afraid to tell the kids to get off their butts and go outside to play with friends. It's important to play alone and with peers without grown ups organizing everything as it helps children develop imagination, interaction with peers and compromise. (We are building future leaders like the mayor who doesn't play well with others and still has an imaginary friend, Pumpkin)

When I was a kid it was punishment to make us play alone inside.

Let the kids fall and fail once in a while and maybe we won't have future mayors whining to the editor when they don't get their way.

Let the kids fall and break an arm to teach them that sometimes risks have consequences you have to live with without parents bailing them out or making excuses for them.

We are building a nation of kids with selfish attitudes, strong thumbs, bad eyesight, and deaf ears due to parents giving them video games, computers, iPods, and cell phones instead of demanding that they do things on their own.

Wowza-PTC Planning Comm Agenda

this Monday evening for a workshop only to discuss:

World Gym wants to close on Hwy 54 and build a 21,000 ft. gym with pool along Lexington Circle, in front of the army barracks town homes. They are going to keep the one at Westpark open.

Marriott wants to have a Fairfield Inn (4 story-88 rooms in 1st bldg.) (2nd bldg. later in expansion phase 2 in a separate building next door with 75 more rooms) at Hwy 74 and Wisdom Rd on 2.8 acres (I think in the back where the empty lot is next to the access road around the back of the gas station).

Gerresheimer-Wilden Plastics on Hwy 74 South will present a future rendering of a potential master plan for 182,000 ft. expansion over 16 plus acres they have there now.

Will someone please hire some help for David and Jennis? Anyone who is interested in any of these should go to see just how good this current Planning Commission is and put your two cents in during this informal format that is so beneficial to the whole process.

World Gym? Hiding the Lexington townhomes - right on! No brainer.Go get 'em Dar.

Marriott? No thanks Willard and your magic underwear. Find a better location. Like maybe tear down something ugly and build the Fairfield there. Need Ideas? Willowbend Center. Williams Circle. Pit Stop. Racetrack - get this one now before it is built. Maybe the old World Gym site - or anything out there in the prairie between us and the new film studio. How I love knowing that is coming. Dar knows more about this than he is letting on and it would be good to watch his moves. I would anyway, you dreamboat.

This Dar thingie has nothing to do with hotel rooms. Although, in your case, just maybe...oh never mind. However, you are required to blog on here with details if and when it happens. But seriously. A few things will keep them on the 74 corridor. The NCR training is going to ramp up even more in the next few years. Ka-ching. Marriott, hot pants or not, has no presence on the south side of Atlanta (beyond the airport, where he flies in and out on his private jet) other than Springhill in Newnan and Fairfield in McDonough. They need to fill in the gap. Gone are the days of referrals from one brand to another, even a few miles apart. Send the overflow to your brand partners, even if they are miles away.
We are it. Location, location, location. I'm gonna throw this out here, too. Don't anyone discount the Porsche headquarters coming to the south side from Sandy Springs and their quasi-connection to Marriott.
Seems the property owner has wanted this in this spot for the last 3 years or more, too.

Another tragedy has gotten overshadowed this weekend

Sec State Clinton has apparently suffered a "health emergency" that will prevent her from testifying as scheduled this Thursday before Congress about Benghazi. The poor thing had a stomach virus, fainted and hit her head, causing a concussion. It's a little unclear when this near-death experience occurred, but we can all rest assured that the relentless media is tripping all over themselves to uncover the timeline.

The State Department has graciously lined up a couple of her piss-boys to take her place at the hearing though, so the show can go on. Her doctors are so concerned with her precarious health situation that they have ordered her to stay away from the office and work from home this week, which lines up nicely with the upcoming Christmas break. The home confinement might even allow her ample time to complete her shopping online, God willing. Those cigars that Slick Willie prefers are supposedly pretty hard to find this time of year.

Current favorite for the next Sec State, John Kerry, was reportedly informed Saturday while polishing his service medals, and he "insisted" that she not appear at the hearing. Unconfirmed reports state that Uncle Joe Biden was also informed Saturday while combing the internet for good speeches to steal. He was reported to say "Most conservatives would have died from a fall like that. I know that old goat could kick my ass, and trust me, she has threatened to many times".

11-1 Falcons!

Whatever it takes. Love to see a deep post-season run this year and silence the skeptics who quickly point out how Mike Smith/Matt Ryan have yet to win a playoff game. OK, I also think about that too and all of the Braves' teams that couldn't get it done in the playoffs either.....whatever. Good job Falcons yet again finding ways to win.

All the best, NUK...

...as I like what Mike Smith has done w/ the team, but lack of a real-threat running game will eventually catch up with them. Turner is just ok now, but not a break-away runner, and Rodgers is an easy tackle unless he has a lot of space. Teams are going to send lots of 4-5 man fronts at Ryan and make his arm beat them, IMHO.

I'd blog about my Chiefs, but it'd either be a long rant or nothing to say; word from home is they're looking at taking UGA's Murray in the 1st round. We've GOT to get rid of Cassell. :(

kc: Cassell is AWESOME!

OK, not!

I think the Falcs need to up their game or face a first round exit as Ryan has shown that he's getting a little skittish lately and the run D looks pretty woeful. This is a flawed team but no team that won the SB isn't for that matter. Time for them to step it up and Ryan especially. And Roddy White.

ACCIDENT at Peachtree Pkwy and Walt Banks Rd.

I just went thru there and there is a car in the woods on the NW corner of the interection. The passenger front end hit a tree next to the cart path there, and the rest of the car is on the cart path. You can see it from the southbound lane of Peachtree Pkwy. The car against the tree was facing northbound. No one was near that car, so I hope they got out. Looks like at least 2 other vehicles involved at the intersection. Those people were standing there, on their cell phones. Police were just getting there (passed 4 cruisers on the way).
I have never looked over to see a car on a path from an accident on the road. Hope everyone is OK. Getting that car out of there will take some work. Golf carters need to be aware of the slim possibility of a road accident coming over onto a nearby path. Scary stuff.

Be a good time to check on Jeremy Liles - 5 yr. anniv.

This young scholar would be 28 years old now and it would be good to see how he overcame the police brutality and the biased press coverage to get on with his life. So whats up Jeremy? West Point graduate and on the fast track to promotion? Bond trader on Wall Street? Prosperous software engineer? State Dept. official recently promoted to fill one of the 4 who were "fired" by Prezbo? Inquiring minds want to know.

BTW, when you get a Scion to go 75 mph on Walt Banks Road, we really can't call it an "accident", can we?

Senoia Apocalypse Alert!

Also known as Woodbury, in The Walking Dead world. Just came back from there. They are filming there and it looks like hell on earth.

Come in from Rockaway Rd. and see the walled off city. Drive thru the back alley behind Zac Browns Southern Ground Social Club and then come down around where The Senoia Coffee Co. is and look over toward the gazebo/train cars. You can drive behind Hollberg's, too. Downtown is a huge film set. Just don't go after dark...who knows what you might run into, if you get my drift. Sign says they will be there till Tuesday.

Cy & Deal

Yeah, it probably is a good deal but I'm not in the mkt right now, having just bought a new car in March. Hey if you're still thinking about St Auggy, the Inn at Camachee Harbor now givesyou bkft coupons for the Grill next door. And not just a biscuit & coffee--french toast or pancakes wbacon or sausage too. Pancakes are awesome!

Cyclist - Thanks

as a veteran, but you know I very rarely think about the fact that I am a veteran. I think more about all the friends that never made it home or those whose lives have been changed forever by their wounds. I think about some that died many years later as a result of their wounds, heroes that were taken from us but not immediately on the field of battle. Forgotten by most but family and friends for what they were, heroes.

In our youth we believed in the American ideal, we looked to the day when we could return home and live out our lives unencumbered and undisturbed. I for one wanted to forget it all and forge something meaningful and better with my life, many others felt the same.

Then I think about wasted sacrifices and the profound sadness of it all. Preserving a government that has the propensity to suppress human action and individual freedom is not what I and most of my fellow veterans served to do.

Indeed, I have come to accept the inevitability of it all, but I will never forget those that served beside me and the honor of that moment in time. The honor of serving with my brothers in arms, they never betrayed me. I only wish I could say the same about my government.

PTCO, well said

Some people get tired of me talking about the virtue of our troops, but I suspect our own White House and Pentagon and the politics that motivates decisions that may spend their lives. We send them to wars we do not have to fight, we impose rules of engagement that get them killed in order to protect civilians, we give them impossible goals like turning a 7th century stinkhole into a stable democracy friendly to the west, we have them fight for world opinion instead of victory, and we send them on repeated deployments that tear their families apart while we at home do nothing.

If only our government had the honor of those who fill the boots.

PTO,cyclist, Mr. Garlock---All i can say is my heartfelt thanks

to you and to all who serve or have served. And Amen to what you all had to say. I think our service personnel have not received the thanks and recognition they have earned and so well deserve since World War II. It breaks my heart to see so many come home broken in body and mind and to see what it does to the families they had to leave for so long. No matter how much we may do for them it will never be enough and we have not even scratched the surface of what we should be doing as a nation for our armed forces. A shame.

Thank you, PTCO

Thanks to all of those who have served and those still serving. You made a lot of sacrifices for the "rest of us" that often goes unappreciated unless you come back in a body-bag or permanently damaged. As Cyclist aptly stated, God bless you all. You are not ignored for what you have done and do.

PTC-O & Vets Day

I agree with the majority of your sentiment here. As a vet of 21 yrs active duty, I rarely think about vet status. One thing--I am very cautious about using the word 'hero' and think many use it too freely. I have no problem with 'brave, fearless warriors',and some other descriptors but I reserve hero' for special people in special situations.
