FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

========================

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

Unfortunately, it makes no difference whether Barry is in Washington or Key Largo. Putin has made it very clear how concerned he is about Barry and how easy it is to ignore him. Remember Syria and Barry's "red line"??? Every world leader knows he is a bag of hot air, and I'm putting that nicely.

Plus, the real positive of Barry working on his golf game in Key Largo is that he was not implementing another one of his screwed-up ideas. At least not this weekend.....

Yes, as in we haven't had to see him standing in front of some crowd of Valerie Jarrett assembled minorities while he rants about his newest and greatest feat of excellence to save the lives of the multitudes of mindless followers he has cling to him like dog fur to your pantlegs.

The real reason he had to leave D.C. that has not been reported by those oh so middle of the ground reporters that sniff his butt was the profound sorrow he is experiencing due to the loss of Alyssa Mastromonaco in his big house there.

That, coupled with d-bag Rahm Emanuel's revelation (on that new CNN campaign-commercial-for-reelection-so-called-documentary) that he and Barry decided they hate, just hate having to make so many decisions. So, when they retire to Hawaii together, they are going into business to sell t-shirts on the beach, white only, size medium only, so they don't have to decide anything ever again.

The really pathetic part of this inside joke the 2 of them have? Emanuel told this in a school in Chi-town, to a group of students who look to be early teens or younger, while he sat on a desk. There is the role model for the youth of Chicago and now the rest of this country. Of all the things anyone could consider to inspire greatness in our youth, this former chief of staff, current mayor of one of our largest cities, and former US Congressman chose this story to tell in a school system that he whines has a 56% dropout rate of black males. Kids, when you grow up, hate making decisions, hate your job, get out of town and do nothing in your retirement years. Yes, this CNN revelation was broadcast for all the world to see, just as Barry jetted off to the Keys. I am SO sure the timing is a coincidence. If you listened closely enough, you could hear Adolf Putin chuckling across the ocean as he listened in on his CNN feed, too.

MLC - Greatest Country

Still, can you name another?

I recall when Mr. Obama was elected the first time telling a friend (yes I do have them) that this would usher in a decade of new socialist policies. It is not without precedent. From the election of Teddy Roosevelt until the death of FDR the United States moved from a free market capitalistic society to a Progressive (socialist) society, that movement has only been interrupted briefly since then. Our government has continued to march in one direction and will not stop until the ultimate outcome of democracy is fulfilled.

With all that said, we still have the best country on earth, because we can change it peacefully, if we dare.

Dad Vince Rossetti was a big homebuilder in FC(Raven Homes) and his sons continued on in the same business. Mike's daughter and mine went to school together all of their lives and I knew the family pretty well. Dr. Curtis was my old doctor for a while too. Just awful.

Men vs. Women: How to Change Oil

An oldie but a goody…

WOMEN:

1. Pull up to Jiffy Lube or Valvoline Instant Oil Change when the mileage reaches 3,000 miles since the last oil change.

2. Drink a cup of coffee while they change the oil.

3. 15 minutes later, write a check and leave with a properly maintained vehicle.

Cost: $29.99 oil change, $2.00 coffee. Total $32.00

MEN:

1. Wait until Saturday, drive to the auto parts store. Buy a case of oil, oil filter, kitty litter, hand cleaner (don't forget a little tree air freshener). Write a check to the auto parts store for approximately $50.

2. Stop by 7/11 on the way home, buy a case of beer. Write a check for $20.00.

3. Drive home with oil and beer.

4. Open beer, enjoy it.

5. Spend 30 minutes looking for the jack stands.

6. Find the jack stands (finally) under the kid's pedal car, jack the car up.

7. Open another beer, drink it.

8. Place drain pan under engine.

9. Look for 9/16" box end wrench for drain plug

10. Give up looking ten minutes later, find crescent wrench.

11. Unscrew drain plug.

12. Drop drain plug into pan of hot oil. Splash hot oil onto your hands and face in the process. Cuss and swear.

13. Crawl out from under car, wipe hot oil from hands and face. Throw some kitty litter on the spilled oil.

14. Open another beer while watching the last drops of oil drain.

15. Spend 30 minutes looking for the oil filter wrench.

16. Give up looking for oil filter wrench, crawl under car and hammer a flat-head screwdriver through the oil filter and twist it off.

17. Crawl out from under car, splashing hot oil everywhere from newly made holes in oil filter.

18. Cleverly hide used oil filter in trash to avoid those pesky environmental penalties. Open another beer.

19. Install new oil filter, making sure to apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket.

20. Pour the first quart of new oil into engine.

21. Oops! Now remember the drain plug (removed in step 11). It's still swimming in the now-warm oil in the drain pan.

22. Throw more kitty litter on the quart-sized oil puddle on the floor.

23. Open another beer and drink it.

24. Find drain plug with a minimum of spillage, hand-tighten in drain plug socket. Drink beer.

25. Crawl under car (getting oily kitty litter embedded in neck and arms). Tighten drain plug with crescent wrench, but this time, it's slippery. Bang your knuckles on the frame while tightening drain plug.

26. Throw crescent wrench across the garage in anger. Throw a fit because crescent wrench hits bowling trophy (which wife wouldn't let stay in the house).

27. Open another beer and drink it.

28. Clean hands, bandaging where needed to stop blood flow.

29. Pour in five quarts of fresh oil.

30. Lower car from jack stands. Smile at your handiwork. Open another beer and drink it.

31. Move car back to discover oil puddles you missed; apply more kitty litter to missed areas.

32. Test drive car to make sure oil doesn't leak.

33. Get pulled over a block from the house by local police, get arrested for DUI.

34. Call loving wife and bail bondsman.

35. Next day, get car out of impound yard.

Cost: $50 parts, $20 beer, Impound fee $75, Bail $1500, DUI $2500 minimum. Total $4145 (but you know the job was done right!)

HB 885 medical marijuana drafts

To be delivered to the Capitol building in Atlanta next week.

“WHEREAS, the General Assembly asks forgiveness before God as they communicate to the citizens of the State of Georgia that they have been misinformed for over seventy years regarding the medicinal value of marijuana.

“WHEREAS, the General Assembly has recognized a drop in church membership reported by the Christian Coalition as a result of their opposition to marijuana.

“WHEREAS, it is recognized that hog tying Grandma and shooting the family dog for barking because Grandma is growing marijuana for her aches and pains has similarity to the era when witches were being burned at the stake.

“WHEREAS, the current war on marijuana is unholy.

“WHEREAS, an aging prison population is putting a strain on the state budget as healthcare starts to include geriatric care.

“WHEREAS, drug war money which produces negative results would be much better spent on education which is known to produce positive results,

“Article 5 of Chapter 34 of Title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the use of cannabis for treatment of cancer and glaucoma, is amended by revising the article as follows:

“Article 5.  This article shall be known and may be cited as 'Haleigh's Hope Act. The program shall be expanded to include all senior citizens who have reached 60 years of age to treat their aches and pains brought on by years of hard labor of which one third went to pay for taxes including the lost drug war.

Crime Scene at 305 Hip Pocket just now?

Drove by Pebblepocket park and heard a gunshot. On down to address above and PD and GBI there with the driveway blocked off with crime scene tape. An adult male was sitting on the front steps. The GBI seemed to already know about the gunshot in the park and could have cared less. "Yup, we'll take care of it". And smiled. On the way back, looked like a female leo in the park, maybe discharging a weapon there??

Thank you. That explains some of it. I still don't get the need for the gunshot that I heard. Or was that what you call "a special remediation agent"? Was it blown up in the park? In any event, thank you for the information. Sometimes we have to hear about things from The Citizen and we are thankful for your reporting.

Might lower the rental rates for less affluent seniors

If it is the same Auburn Communities which operates mostly in Florida, they use tax credit subsidies the same as that group Haddix let into Kedron with his big mouth. That might lower the rental rates for new residents.

Can't figure why this has been sold when they are almost full. Maybe that was the plan all along to rent it up and sell it. Or maybe their slow start - 2008 was not a good time to open, put them behind the 8-ball with the bank. Nevertheless, that's a really nice place, much better than Somerby - good location as well.

Breaking news from Boston

Big Papi was just seen walking down Storrow Drive with a bat in his hands asking anyone he saw if they had some balls.

He has a rare form of recently diagnosed ninetyfiveyearticulitis.

The most effective treatment is to lay down on a warm tropical beach with a margarita in one hand, a beautiful woman in the the other, and scream at the top of your lungs the folllowing: WHO'S YOUR PAPI NOW??

Malady subsides and health should restore to normal about 4 months from onset of symptoms.

Oh, and btw, those Champion (so smoooth sounding) Red Sox will be at Turner Field on May 26 & 27th 2014, to play the Bravos. Sans beards. Memorial Day. Be there.

Barry O dopesmoked his way

thru Harvard, right across the Charles River from Fenway Park. He, of all people, knows the difficulty of the logistics of moving traffic and people around the city of Boston. Depending on the outcome of the game tonight and maybe tomorrow night, there could be a parade with hundreds of thousands of people coming to the city, again.

The burden on the Boston PD, FD, EMS to cover these events is enormous, and Obummer adds to that by deciding just a week ago, to bring his security issues into the mix, also.

All of this is just so unfair to the fans, the city, law enforcement and especially the teams. Not to mention totally unnecessary.

Yes, I can and everyone should, too

He is there to brag on Obamacare in a speech at Faneuil Hall.

He is there for another weekly fundraiser.

This is the most transparent pathetic grasp at attention ever. And for him, that's saying alot.

This city was and still is traumatized on April 15th. What more to get worldwide attention than to attempt another attack than this event with the prezbo present?

Screwing the businesses that have been told to shut down from 11AM to 4PM just for him.

Trust me, many, many of the fans at Fenway tonight who can afford to be there, are NOT his voting base and they will let him have it in both of those big fat elephant ears of his, as they should.

This should NOT be a distraction from the joy of the game of baseball for those who just want to watch 2 teams who have worked their butts off for over 9 months to get to tonight. They are the best of the best and deserve ALL the publicity to be directed at their efforts.

for this. Agree, just a dumb move by the POTUS and all the distractions it brings to a city during an event like this.

Now the Halloween finale should be a good one. Not for the POTUS to show up, the game itself. :)

As a fan of the game

As a fan of the game, I don't blame anyone who wants to go .

As a kid, I spent my milk money to watch a series game from the nose bleed section with some friends. I couldn't get any higher, but it was a great time.

Hope for a good game tonight with a Cardinal win so we can all enjoy a game 7.

Sweet, sweet

Win. It never ceases to amaze me that a person can throw a little ball like that for 9 months and still hit the target. Awesome pitching on both teams. Now, let's just stop a Wacha.

Let's just hope that someone tells Barry OBummer and his Auntie Zeituni and Uncle Omar to stay away from Fenway.

David Ross comment on the paper airplane: that was pretty impressive...That thing glided right in there, the ump, me & yadi were all impressed.

Intent does not matter

in obstruction call.

So Middlebrooks was supposed to amputate his lower torso to get out of the way of Craig? For crying out loud, look at where Craig went when he got up to run to home. Right AT Middlebrooks.

Look at Craig throwing his right arm out at Middlebrooks as he slid into 3rd. Any obstruction there?

OF COURSE Jim Joyce called this. MLB just cannot have another "Jim Joyce bad call", now can they?

Craig would NOT have scored without Middlebrooks in front of him because Salty had the plate blocked AND he tagged him out. Craig was not "right there" as Demuth claimed. He was limping down the third base line and slid and missed the plate altogether.

DeMuth OF COURSE backed Joyce up, just as payback to the Sox for his unbelievably bad call in game 1 at second base that got overturned by all 5 of the other umpires when Farrell objected.

27 years ago tonight, back comes the curse of Bill Buckner.

My oh my.

Good call to me

Even if intent doesn't matter at all on the call, there is little doubt in my mind that Middlebrooks definitely tried to obstruct Craig.

Lost in all of this is how terrible of a play Saltalamacchia made to begin with, which shouldn't be too surprising. He's one of the worst catchers in the MLB defensively and has been since Day 1 of his career.

Then it is obvious

you did not watch the play in real time and don't have a clue what happened. Definitely tried? How? By reaching to catch the ball and then not having anywhere to go to get out of Craig's way? You call that TRYING to obstruct? You obviously went the Joyce school of umpiring. It's not about Salty's throw, it's about a rule that takes all common sense away and 2 umpires, one who makes colossally bad calls and another who backed him up as payback for the 2nd base call the other night.

No, lost in all of this the continual alienation of the fan base by an MLB that makes decisions to put games on that go past midnight, ticket prices that are obscene and decision makers who would rather have games decided on inept calls than run it thru a replay system such as the NFL to offer the chance make it fair for the players and the fans.

If you missed it in "real time" or anything taped, you'll see he raised both of his legs to definitely interfere. Not that intent has anything to do with the ruling to begin with, but he definitely tried to intentionally slow him down. Not a bad move, unless you get busted for it.

Don't want to hear the whining from Red Sox fans :) Ya'll gave the game away and that is also what happens when you put a scrub like Salty in your lineup and can't hide him since he's a catcher.

Yeah, guys laying on their stomach normally raise both of their legs up in the air to try and stand up....LMAO. Take off the homer glasses.

Oh stop

and look at what you obviously can't see. When you are flat on your stomach and think about getting up, do you raise your legs to do it? Try doing it without raising your legs. He had NO chance to get out of the way either by laying down or getting up. Of course, Craig made sure of that by intentionally crawling over him. I mean, that's how the game is played, right?

You call it whining? Funny, last I checked I have a right to be p.o.'d by a crappy rule that assumes anyone trying to catch a ball is interfering with a runner. And by a call by Jim Joyce, joke of the umpiring world. And a CYA move by Demuth to back him up. And by Joe Torre, Mr. No Bias Toward the Red Sox at all.

This is not about Salty, yes he made a bad throw, but the play wasn't even close at home, Salty caught that ball way out in front of home plate and tagged Craig way before he got there. Even limping on two good feet, Craig would have been tagged out on that play.

The last line of the rule reads: "He very likely has obstructed the runner." It doesn't say he has obstructed the runner, it says it is very likely. That means the whole decision is left to the umpire and Joyce got it wrong....again. And Demuth had a bone to pick over his crappy call in Game 1.

Actually, no, that isn't how you get back to a standing position

You pull your knees up under you, not flail the back of your legs upward conveniently while a base runner is right there. You might even try and raise your upper body at the same time, that's assuming that you're trying to get upright and not just interfering with the runner.

Again, only a Boston fan thinks this was a bad call, especially since intent isn't even part of the rule. Next time, maybe Saltalamacchia doesn't sling it into the outfield for no reason besides that fact that he's a scrub. I see a lot of Sox fans calling for him to be benched for the rest of the series, and rightfully so. Terrible mistake and then it's GAME OVER.

Seems you know

Gee, when someone is stepping on your legs and tripping over you, and presses down on your lower back with the weight of a push off on you, kinda hard to raise your upper body last I checked.

Of course, that's assuming you're trying to get up when you know darn well if you do, you will be called for interference anyway. Tell me, how does MLB want a 3rd baseman to move in this case? What are his choices? Split seconds, now.

Craig saw that ball sail by, he watched it go into the outfield. Watch him turn to watch it go. Then he made the choice to go over Middlebrooks, not along the baseline where you are suppose to run. He knew he could get that call.

You seem to know a lot about Boston fans. Might you just have some roots up there?

Do you just follow what MLB puts out there for the sports media to report? Do you have a clue how much MLB controls the World Series media and how scripted this all is? I'm not talking about the blogs or the fan reaction. I'm talking about MLB and their rules and control over the image of a blown call due to a rule that is poorly written and not followed by the umps on the field.

Of course the fans are calling for him to be benched. It's based on his work this year, not on this singular play.

Now he's real impartial and fair. Right. Running the press conference with the umps after the game? Gee, how necessary was that other than to control the mantra that MLB puts out there for the press.

John Mrosek-1967 in Boston

Here's a little nostalgia. My aunt was a nursing student at Mass. General Hospital in 1967. She was 18 years younger than my mother (her sister). One of her roommates wanted to fix her up on a blind date with a guy who was a friend of her boyfriend.

My aunt, who had been skiing with her dad (my grandfather) in northern NH not too long before that, had met another guy who had come down the same slope and plowed into my grandfather and knocked him over. This young hotshot was very apologetic and embarrassed and helped get my grandfather up and made sure he was okay. My aunt, after finding her dad was okay, thought it was hilarious. So, later this hotshot, thinking how pretty she was and what a great sense of humor she had, found her in the lodge and they talked and they eventually started dating. He lived just north of Boston, she lived in the city.

Well, to make a long story short, (ahem), when her roomie tried to fix her up, she said no thanks, I think I have a keeper already. So, she never met the blind date or went out with him.

Who was the date? Bobby Orr. So, my uncle (yup, they married) spent the rest of his life bragging that he married a girl who refused Bobby Orr just to be with him. Did she know who Bobby Orr was at the time and that was who her roomie wanted to fix her up with? Yes, but he was just starting out in the NHL and she was already smitten. Ain't love grand?

World Series at Fenway

tonight. Game start 50 degrees, 60% chance of rain, moving on to 35 degrees at 11PM and 60% chance of rain.

Parkas and hooded rain ponchos and lotsa chowdah (lobstah and clam), a Fenway frank and a couple two three Samuel Adams Boston Lagers to wash it down.

Oh, and don't forget to keep your beard dry.

In the video below, the guy behind home plate in the stands in the front row just behind the umpire (blond hair, Robert Redford look alike) has been at every game, in that same seat, since at least the 2004 World Series. Every game. Superfan.
