FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

========================

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

Hey Cy

That's more like it. I mean what is this some side show, or what? (51 now)

I never asked, as these freekin' politics get in the way, but did you catch any big ones on your trip and did you ever get the house finished? See the 300 pounder I caught last week? I'm all tuckered out.

Choctoowawhatchi bridge? Is that some gift from the Punjabi peoples?

Oh Cy, by the by, you don't have to type in the time. Cal's Timex does that for us. I mean, you can if you really want to, but really, you don't have to.:)

Fish'n wasn't that good this year. A few jacks, one tiny Spanish Mackerel, some lady fish. I suspect it had something to do was the big flood that Destin had around the last part of April. I did catch a Cobia in the surf which was different.

Anyways, I'm local for a while but may have to jet out to Hong Kong and look at a Rolls Royce engine facility.

Oh, about your avatar…..it could be said that you are "bottom fishing". :-)

door knocking is a thing of the past just about everywhere now, except maybe a really small town where you know all your neighbors. Most everywhere now, no one even answers their door when someone knocks, unless they are expecting someone. You are right, it sure would make for better elections.

Well, we know now no winner in NY today. 9 millions bucks in bets on him and California Chrome loses. Did you see Frank Sinatra Jr. singing New York New York? We now know what old blue eyes would have looked like without the toupee.

about that.

No, I didn't have a chance to watch the race today, it's always the long one that brings them down. Horses aren't raised to be long haulers these days, just sprinters. It take a really remarkable animal to win the Triple Crown, looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see this once more before we die.

Do you remember when Frank Jr. was kidnapped? If my memory serves me one local Atlanta hotel played a role in that, but can't remember exactly as it was the early 60's. I think the captured the guys that did it here or something like that.

PTC O I remember

vaguely hearing about it, but since I am now heading into my own early 60's, it was a little before my time. Growing up, my father, (who was Irish) idolized the Kennedys, as did just about all the Irish. He never liked Sinatra due to that mafia/rat pack connection to the 3 brothers so Sinatra was never a fave in our family. However, I do remember him belting out some of his tunes in the shower. Funny how we remember little stuff like that. Even funnier is how he thought he sounded just like him...in the shower.

Anyhow, my niece owns a thoroughbred and when I see those skinny legs on top of those huge torsos and necks, I always think these creatures were never built to run like they do in these races. Those legs just look so undersized for what they have to carry, then add a rider on top and all that equipment, and, well, I just kinda feel sorry for them. I used to go to the track up north and place some bets, but left it all at the track usually. No fun in that so I gave it up.

Just couldn't resist could you? Even in an obit blog you had to
slide in one of your usual little tidbits.
"Many families who returned "home" after fleeing the South in the 40's owe Mr. Dunham a ton of gratitutde for his ethics, dignity and perservence (whatever that is)-heavily endowed with love for all."

A low even for you. Mr. Dunham was an honorable and ethical man with dignity and perserverance and he showed all these attributes to one and all. I think he would probably resent your adding in your little snide remark. Shame on you.

Another sample of Mytimites lack of class – to even post this on a blog that honors such a wonderful person. You are a little too young to carry any guilt about the flight of blacks from the south in the 40’s.. I was directed by a prominent clergyman (white) to go and talk with Mr, Dunham. With your usual lack of comprehension – you used the same words I used to honor him, but because those words come from the mouth of a ‘black’ woman, they are snide?
You are sick – bless your heart.

No you are the sick one with a one track mind. And if your

memory served you better you would remember that I am anything but too young to remember--older than you. It was not the words you used to honor that fine gentleman but the fact that you had to throw that in about the blacks 'fleeing in the 40's which had nothing whatsoever to do with Mr. Nub and in that way dishonored him.

P.S. I know the meaning of perserverance and I actually do know how to spell it also. But of course your spelling in your first post was only a typing error in your rush to get your remark posted, as it always is when you make an error but when someone else does you love to jump in and correct them. Just giving you a taste of your own medicine.

and many families who remained in the south; served in WWII, and maintained a loving attitude towards all Americans is taught in many 'black' homes. It was their effort and PERSERVERANCE that made returning 'home' a reality. You have nothing to give me. I'm proud to be who I am; I'm proud of the citizens of Fayette County; I'm proud to be an American. In the 40's , even if you're older than I am, we were too young to realize why there was The Great Migration. It is a part of history. It is a reality - and I for one, celebrate the progress that has been made since then. If you feel referring to progress regarding American history is 'snide' - that is your right. Bless your heart.

Back in the bubble after 10 days ferrying a sailboat to Castine

What a trip! One of the best things was no internet, no e-mail, no phone calls. I do this once or twice a year and I am always surprised and gratified how very, very good it feels to not be in touch 24/7. I even missed hearing my wife bitching about a broken pipe or something. Thatks to Fitzgerald Plumbing. Just kidding honey.

I see the election nonsense has continued and Brown has some new ID's. Can not understand ginga becoming a brownie. Maybe he hijacked her account. Oh well, he'll be gone in December and we will go on having a good time living in our protected environment.

I voted absentee because of the trip - Logsdon, Handel, etc. I caution that low turnout lets nut jobs like Haddix and Brown to get into office. Happened before, could happen again.

But it won't and i am on my way to Logsdon's victory party with a good attitude and a Margarita on my golf cart.

Greenhouses

I've seen rows of very large greenhouses at some property on Lower Fayetteville Rd in Coweta, about a 1/4th mile from the Hwy 154 intersection.
That where these arecoming from? I always wondered what they were growing because it's not your average backyard greenhouses there. They are also visible from the road, so I ruled- out marijuana :)

It doesn't look like a "retail establishment," but one day when I'm in the area I need to stop by. Might be abandoned or just flowers, etc, but these are some BIG greenhouses.

Useless trivia question

but I'll ask anyway. Anyone can answer except for m-m-m-robo-so-sue-me or his other ego gee-boy.

If someone got their car tag (the older ones) while living in one county and it has the name of the county on the bottom, and they move the next year to a new county, do they keep the same tag and get a new county sticker for the bottom of the plate? I know they get the new decal for the year, but is there a new county name sticker to go with it? Or, do they get a whole new tag with the new county name sticker?

mlc: they phased that out

Now when you get your tag renewed, it has the county name and '14 on the square sticker and they don't replace your county tag strip that is on your license plate. I know this because I went through it two weeks ago and was a little surprised about it as I had no idea that was now in place.

Also learned that all emissions testing is computerized finally with the state and you don't have to send that off in the mail and they know whether or not your car(s) have been emission-tested or not for the current year.

Nuk-thanks and the reason I asked

I was driving on 74 today and a car passed me. It a black Mercedes S550 with tag SANY. When we stopped at the light at 54/74, I snapped a photo of the tag, because the lettering of the county (black across the bottom of the tag, not the square corner year/county decal) was all jumbled up.

When I enlarged it on my iPhoto, I saw FUL and then the TON was partly missing-the tops of the TON letters were missing, with more lettering above the TON saying YETTE, but the bottom of those YETTE letters were cut off. It looks like one county name is partly obscuring another county name (on top of each other) and I have never seen that before. Like either someone tried to peel off or stick on a new county name and screwed it all up.

FULIUN, if you read it across the bottom, or FULETTE if you try to read it across the top of the lettering. This is hard to describe without seeing it. It was initially the vanity plate that caught my eye. Then, the 4 Chinese men in the car with the adult male in the front passenger seat with his bare foot up on the dashboard which, btw, was filthy, (the bottom of the foot, don't know about the dashboard) Anyway, not the usual Saturday 74/54 traffic light experience. I wondered if the owner had moved from Fulton to Fayette or vice versa and if he got a new county sticker when he changed his address. The square year decal was white and says Oct. '14., so that is current, I guess. Don't know if or what the county name says, it is too small.

I found out about the emissions record last year. 'Bout time on that, big improvement.

indeed. Pizza or Chinese.

Then we have Zaxby's wanting to come in down at the corner of MacDuff and 54. With their dumpster out on 54 next to the cart path there. That would be a thing of beauty.

Looks like The Overlook is going to get approved and who knows with what fast foodie is coming in over in front of Planterra. With no light and no entrance from Planterra driveway and no connection to the Flying Biscuit shopping center (to be determined later, it says).

I wonder if Zaxbys will close over at Lexington if they go in down at MacDuff. My guess is yes. And if Chick-fil-A will come back into the plan in front of Planterra. I just saw Hardees up in Fairburn go in. I shudder to think they would fill that spot. The scramble is on again.

They can be on the corner, in the old Zaxby's, the old bank or in the back and they will have them lined up all day spending money. Switching to PTC agenda

The agenda this week includes something about the Lexington Circle area and cleaning up the zoning. What's that about?

There is also an item about the age restricted Wilksmoor development. Will council be voting no on that in order to make the developer open this up to younger families? Will they approve to placate those affected by the 54/74 congestion and the new access point? What's the word on this?

in March, they let the city know that the city is violating their rights to develop that property to it's full potential by having the current zoning on the books. The city tried to delay this mess to get the traffic study results, but 70K later, we still don't have them (unless they miraculously appear tomorrow) and Weiland is chomping at the bit to get this land developed before those study results come in. So, tomorrow night planners will say yes and Thursday night the council and realtor mayor will say yes. The city also tried to get this tied in to a new fire station and improvements to MacDuff/54 intersection but Weiland wants no part of it. The question is whether the other land owner/developer is ready to go and fund their part of MacDuff now, too, allowing for the length of the road to be connected to 74 up at Kedron Dr. I am sure the realtor mayor has just been working overtime on this one.

That's my take on it, at least until nukie comes on and berates me with his superior intellect and knowledge. I do this just so he has something nasty to say to me, or else he goes into some sort of withdrawal when too much time goes by without that sort of release of hostility, poor thang.

I'm not against a housing

I'm not against a housing development per se. But the city has to do their homework. In no particular order:

1. If it's currently industrial, then the city, county, and FCDA needs to stop whining about limited industrial space to bring in new business.
2. The traffic study, school study, and fire rescue study need to be in line with the normal services provided. I hope Terry has some good insight on this.
3. The bridge and access onto 54 has to be complete and in use before any occupancy permits are granted.
4. I understand the vision is to bring in young families. How is this age restricted homes following this path? If Learnard doesn't vote no, than she can not ever bring this up again

Wieland wields a big stick when it comes to potential political contributions and the Mayor needs to be very careful about this. If she's smart, she will work both sides until she gets that Fire Station we need thrown into the mix.

People are wound too right about the commission election. This may fall under the radar.

What I would take for my house is irrelevant in this case. Just thought it was a very unusual jump. My assessment fell over the down years, but not to the extent it rebounded. I was suspicious that in this election year we might have experienced a back door tax bump.

Not to compare with what folks are going through in the Gulf, but the power went out here for 15 minutes or so at 5:30am, my oh so trusty keyboard decided to take the morning off, tree debris all over the back yard and last but not least, the sprinkler decided to water my already saturated yard for no reason at all. Have not run the sprinkler since last summer...go figure....jeesh!

Windy this morning

I had to call the police due to a tree blocking the road on Walt Banks around 5:45 am.

Wonder how that traffic adjusted to get the kids to school

Golf Courses to sell hard liquor on beverage carts

if Council agrees at the meeting Thursday.

Let's see. Right now we have:

Wine sales on the beverage carts...5 to 20% alcohol content

Beer sales on the beverage carts...3 to 9% alcohol content

and now lets add hard liquor on the beverage carts...30 to 50% alcohol content

Why, yes, and let's also add marijuana and Ambien chasers into the left over slots on the beverage carts, please.

Don't forget to add hundreds of 15 and up teen-driven carts, too, for those southside city path trips daily, when the BOE and PTC approve Starrs Mill for carts.

Just say yes, Council..yes, yes and more yesses, please.

When I decide to run for Council, will I need to be an alcoholic, too, or can I just designate someone to be one for me?

Pre mixes in cans..

That is usually how this is handled on any golf course I have ever been on. They have the same alcohol content as the regular BEER...around 5%.

I seriously doubt they will be serving shots of liquor off of the golf cart, that is the ONLY way you would get near 50% alcohol content. That is just not practical..and anyone who wants that already has a flask in their golf bag anyways.

Various Liquor Companies are offering premixes like I speak of above...it's really about choices, and not a cause for alarm on your part.

No alarm

Spy. I want the adults of this city to add to their mind altering lifestyle. Whether it's alcohol or drugs, illegal or prescription, they can only enhance the utopic community we live in here. Gives reason to the kiddos to want to move back when they start their own families. The role model is a winner, coming from mom and daddy-o.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, so why waste it on being fully functional and alert? Why deal with stress, boredom, pain and anger while sober anyway? For crying out loud, who can actually socialize and have a good time when sober? I actually enjoy the drunks on carts as they come by me driving in my lane instead of theirs. I love the sound of their clubs on the back clanking around when they come around a bend a full speed and have to try to swerve out of my way when I am so inconsiderate as to be going in the opposite direction.

Anyway, what business is it that the government here get involved in legislating any mind altering substance use? To say it is for public safety? Since when is that more important than having easier access to get sloshed and stoned? Come on, insist with me that Council say yes to this. No cause for alarm is right. I hope you run for Council some day, too.

Not nearly enough pay for the time demands....

The other rant of yours I'll pass on too. I will only add that too much of anything is not good most of the time. :)

Well, at least you get Easter with the spouse. You must have some screwy body clock. I tried doing 2nd and 3rsd shift when I was a youngster and it made me crazy. And that was in the same time zone. Now that I am no longer crazy...well, life is better. You get a big gold star on your forehead from me.

Tap Tables?

I just checked out Maguires Facebook page and this is what they have out in Senoia. They have just installed a tap table. 4 beer taps to a table to sample beers. You buy a pre-paid card and then swipe it to sample the beers. If you put, say, $10. on your card, you visit a tap table and sample different beers. Prices are based on type of beer and are by the ounce. If you try a beer and don't like it, you only bought an ounce and not a pint. They change the beer often, too.

I like the Irish Proverb they have listed:

May the roof above us never fall in.
And may the friends gathered below it never fall out.

The former Ginza/Kane Yama is

going to open again on Crosstown Rd. Have no idea what is going to be there, but an announcement should be coming soon.

Here's a blast from The Citizen past...almost 10 years ago

Loved the Ginza back in the good old days. Todd S. get ready

Paul and his guitar ruled the stage. Food was great. The tatami rooms were the most fun. Loved it!. Used to go every week then then the novelty wore off for us and others and then they closed and reopened and then it was $18.. Hope they have more luck now with the younger crowd. $11 back then vs. probably $35 today. Used to go there with Todd Strickland's parents Good times, good people. Todd, do your part - take your neighbors to the new Ginza.

my wording was misleading. A new restaurant is going in there. No connections to Ginza/Kane Yama that I know of. Just used the names for building location, that's all. Yes, Ginza was great. Hope they last longer than Kane Yama did. And they don't store all their cleaning material and other clutter out back where you can see it as you go by on the golf cart. Kind of unappetizing, some of that stuff. However, with the construction starting at Kroger within a month or two, guess we'll have that to look at on the path back there.

Hey, we need another hookah bar, right? The Khalifa in Fayetteville probably has a spare belly dancer hanging around looking for more to do, too. Or the Grand Hookah bar at Wisdom Pointe.

The new restaurant will be called Crosstown Grille and is being opened by Frank and Wendy Maguire from Maguire's in Senoia. My husband and I spoke to Frank about the new restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Look for a large assortment of beers on tap and a complete remodel. He said they were hoping to be open by the end of the summer.

A restaurantuer with a good history of good food and atmosphere. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully they can figure out a way to get some outside dining and make sure it's caters to family's.

Would Love to See a Seafood Restaurant Open There

Plenty of burger, pizza, Mexican, Japanese steakhouse, Greek/Mediterranean and BBQ joints around town. It would be nice to have a really good seafood restaurant there. Make it a must stop on the way to The Fred to see a concert in the golf cart.

PATIO DINING

Please, please, please learn a lesson from Johnny's Pizza and have outdoor dining, preferably under a roof (or at least some sort of shade) with ceiling fans. I bet Johnny's has tripled or more his income from that patio by moving from his 54W location. That is what we enjoy when carting...outdoor dining..like btr said, on the way to The Fred or just out for a ride.

I'm glad no national franchise frozen everything is going in there. Local owners who will enjoy catering to the locals here. Lots of lunch crowd from the industrial park looking for lunch, too, near the Crosstown area.

Hopefully, Gov. Deal signs that new law within the next 3 weeks that will allow PTC to have local control of golf carts crossing Hwy 74 at Crosstown. Then we can get over to Lake McIntosh on the cart, and more carts will come and go for a meal or takeout on their trips to and from the lake. This is good news.

Wrong on Monday--opened yesterday. Berries are large but not very sweet, as is normal for the early crop--be much better in June/July when we get some sustained warm weather.

AHG & Adams opening

I wrote that last Saturday and they did open last Monday. I was there on Monday and bought the strawberries. You are right. They are big berries, not the small juicy ones they have always had in the past.

I even called them a few days later to ask if these were bought from a supplier as they are just about what you can buy in Publix right now. I was told these are from their fields and they are the first crop of the season. You are right, I can wait for the smaller, juicier, sweeter ones. I'm glad someone else noticed the difference, too.

We just love Adams Farm and how friendly everyone is. Picked up about 2 lbs of strawberry's and we will enjoy them at breakfast, snack after school and dessert. I spoke to them and they plan to offer herbs and more this year.

While Obama may be getting a lesson from Putin.....

on how big-boy world leaders play this game called world politics, you can't say Barry isn't getting anything done. He has filled out his Presidential Bracket for the men's NCAA basketball tournament and had ESPN visit the White House to unveil his Final Four for television viewers. While the ratings were probably much higher than for his State of the Union speeches, he was relegated to SportsCenter at 9:30 this morning. For those who can't stand the suspense, the Basketball-in-Chief commanded that Michigan State, Louisville, Florida and Arizona will be in the Final Four. He then issued an Executive Order declaring Michigan State will be National Champions.

Meanwhile on that pesky situation with Russia, rumor is Barry is trying to find where Hillary put that embarrassing "reset button" before she left town. I guess he wants to hit "reset" again since Putin could not possibly pay any less attention to him or his "sanctions".

Did you see where our absent minded VP claimed ,as the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, he lead the fight for Poland’s admission into NATO. The only thing is, he was wasn't the chairman at time; it was Sen. Jesse Helms.

Biden is a world class………..doofus.

Of course, we all know that Al Gore invented the internet. (another doofus VP)

It's all part of the "Big Lie". There is a famous quote by Joseph Goebbels that sums up their adeptness at the art of lying:

"The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous."

All you have to do is substitute "Liberal" for "English".

Not to be outdone by multitasking Adolf Putin, Barry not only did his b-ball predictions today, but he also sent his advance team up to Martha's Vineyard to scout out for his vacay in August. Man, the work load this guy accomplishes in a day is stunning, ain't it? Just can't have enough vacays when you are the biggest joke of a leader this country has ever had.
