FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

Nuk-thanks and the reason I asked

I was driving on 74 today and a car passed me. It a black Mercedes S550 with tag SANY. When we stopped at the light at 54/74, I snapped a photo of the tag, because the lettering of the county (black across the bottom of the tag, not the square corner year/county decal) was all jumbled up.

When I enlarged it on my iPhoto, I saw FUL and then the TON was partly missing-the tops of the TON letters were missing, with more lettering above the TON saying YETTE, but the bottom of those YETTE letters were cut off. It looks like one county name is partly obscuring another county name (on top of each other) and I have never seen that before. Like either someone tried to peel off or stick on a new county name and screwed it all up.

FULIUN, if you read it across the bottom, or FULETTE if you try to read it across the top of the lettering. This is hard to describe without seeing it. It was initially the vanity plate that caught my eye. Then, the 4 Chinese men in the car with the adult male in the front passenger seat with his bare foot up on the dashboard which, btw, was filthy, (the bottom of the foot, don't know about the dashboard) Anyway, not the usual Saturday 74/54 traffic light experience. I wondered if the owner had moved from Fulton to Fayette or vice versa and if he got a new county sticker when he changed his address. The square year decal was white and says Oct. '14., so that is current, I guess. Don't know if or what the county name says, it is too small.

I found out about the emissions record last year. 'Bout time on that, big improvement.

And their liquidator has hired 2 black guys to hold those annoying pole signs on the 2 corners of 54/74.

I guess the way overpriced clothing wasn't enough to keep the owners pockets lined.

indeed. Pizza or Chinese.

Then we have Zaxby's wanting to come in down at the corner of MacDuff and 54. With their dumpster out on 54 next to the cart path there. That would be a thing of beauty.

Looks like The Overlook is going to get approved and who knows with what fast foodie is coming in over in front of Planterra. With no light and no entrance from Planterra driveway and no connection to the Flying Biscuit shopping center (to be determined later, it says).

I wonder if Zaxbys will close over at Lexington if they go in down at MacDuff. My guess is yes. And if Chick-fil-A will come back into the plan in front of Planterra. I just saw Hardees up in Fairburn go in. I shudder to think they would fill that spot. The scramble is on again.

Me, I am watching Crosstown Grill coming along nicely. Looks like a nice outside area and much closer to home for me than The Avenue.

Keep it simple moe. Chick-fil-A to Lexington

They can be on the corner, in the old Zaxby's, the old bank or in the back and they will have them lined up all day spending money. The high school alone has 3,000 students, teachers and administrators. Dar's gym has 1,500 members. What better location for Chick-fil-A? Better build a double drive-thru.

Switching to PTC agenda

The agenda this week includes something about the Lexington Circle area and cleaning up the zoning. What's that about?

There is also an item about the age restricted Wilksmoor development. Will council be voting no on that in order to make the developer open this up to younger families? Will they approve to placate those affected by the 54/74 congestion and the new access point? What's the word on this?

in March, they let the city know that the city is violating their rights to develop that property to it's full potential by having the current zoning on the books. The city tried to delay this mess to get the traffic study results, but 70K later, we still don't have them (unless they miraculously appear tomorrow) and Weiland is chomping at the bit to get this land developed before those study results come in. So, tomorrow night planners will say yes and Thursday night the council and realtor mayor will say yes. The city also tried to get this tied in to a new fire station and improvements to MacDuff/54 intersection but Weiland wants no part of it. The question is whether the other land owner/developer is ready to go and fund their part of MacDuff now, too, allowing for the length of the road to be connected to 74 up at Kedron Dr. I am sure the realtor mayor has just been working overtime on this one.

That's my take on it, at least until nukie comes on and berates me with his superior intellect and knowledge. I do this just so he has something nasty to say to me, or else he goes into some sort of withdrawal when too much time goes by without that sort of release of hostility, poor thang.

I'm not against a housing

I'm not against a housing development per se. But the city has to do their homework. In no particular order:

1. If it's currently industrial, then the city, county, and FCDA needs to stop whining about limited industrial space to bring in new business.
2. The traffic study, school study, and fire rescue study need to be in line with the normal services provided. I hope Terry has some good insight on this.
3. The bridge and access onto 54 has to be complete and in use before any occupancy permits are granted.
4. I understand the vision is to bring in young families. How is this age restricted homes following this path? If Learnard doesn't vote no, than she can not ever bring this up again

Wieland wields a big stick when it comes to potential political contributions and the Mayor needs to be very careful about this. If she's smart, she will work both sides until she gets that Fire Station we need thrown into the mix.

People are wound too right about the commission election. This may fall under the radar.

Fayette Assessment Notices

Guess the depressed home prices are a thing of the past. Just opened my 2014 assessment notice to a greater than 21% increase in "assessed" value. Curious if this is a fluke or if others are experiencing the hit.

Seems to be time to learn about the appeals process.

Nice to see we are moving back up. My neighbor sold their house within three days of putting it on the market and got full listing price. I was hoping for a young family, but will be getting a single 40 something with no kids. Didn't the realtors get the memo from the vision people, lol.

What I would take for my house is irrelevant in this case. Just thought it was a very unusual jump. My assessment fell over the down years, but not to the extent it rebounded. I was suspicious that in this election year we might have experienced a back door tax bump.

I realize the tax situation is pretty good here since I began my home ownership in the northeast also.

Golf Courses to sell hard liquor on beverage carts

if Council agrees at the meeting Thursday.

Let's see. Right now we have:

Wine sales on the beverage carts...5 to 20% alcohol content

Beer sales on the beverage carts...3 to 9% alcohol content

and now lets add hard liquor on the beverage carts...30 to 50% alcohol content

Why, yes, and let's also add marijuana and Ambien chasers into the left over slots on the beverage carts, please.

Don't forget to add hundreds of 15 and up teen-driven carts, too, for those southside city path trips daily, when the BOE and PTC approve Starrs Mill for carts.

Just say yes, Council..yes, yes and more yesses, please.

When I decide to run for Council, will I need to be an alcoholic, too, or can I just designate someone to be one for me?

Pre mixes in cans..

That is usually how this is handled on any golf course I have ever been on. They have the same alcohol content as the regular BEER...around 5%.

I seriously doubt they will be serving shots of liquor off of the golf cart, that is the ONLY way you would get near 50% alcohol content. That is just not practical..and anyone who wants that already has a flask in their golf bag anyways.

Various Liquor Companies are offering premixes like I speak of above...it's really about choices, and not a cause for alarm on your part.

No alarm

Spy. I want the adults of this city to add to their mind altering lifestyle. Whether it's alcohol or drugs, illegal or prescription, they can only enhance the utopic community we live in here. Gives reason to the kiddos to want to move back when they start their own families. The role model is a winner, coming from mom and daddy-o.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, so why waste it on being fully functional and alert? Why deal with stress, boredom, pain and anger while sober anyway? For crying out loud, who can actually socialize and have a good time when sober? I actually enjoy the drunks on carts as they come by me driving in my lane instead of theirs. I love the sound of their clubs on the back clanking around when they come around a bend a full speed and have to try to swerve out of my way when I am so inconsiderate as to be going in the opposite direction.

Anyway, what business is it that the government here get involved in legislating any mind altering substance use? To say it is for public safety? Since when is that more important than having easier access to get sloshed and stoned? Come on, insist with me that Council say yes to this. No cause for alarm is right. I hope you run for Council some day, too.

Tap Tables?

I just checked out Maguires Facebook page and this is what they have out in Senoia. They have just installed a tap table. 4 beer taps to a table to sample beers. You buy a pre-paid card and then swipe it to sample the beers. If you put, say, $10. on your card, you visit a tap table and sample different beers. Prices are based on type of beer and are by the ounce. If you try a beer and don't like it, you only bought an ounce and not a pint. They change the beer often, too.

I like the Irish Proverb they have listed:

May the roof above us never fall in.
And may the friends gathered below it never fall out.

Loved the Ginza back in the good old days. Todd S. get ready

Paul and his guitar ruled the stage. Food was great. The tatami rooms were the most fun. Loved it!. Used to go every week then then the novelty wore off for us and others and then they closed and reopened and then it was $18.. Hope they have more luck now with the younger crowd. $11 back then vs. probably $35 today. Used to go there with Todd Strickland's parents Good times, good people. my wording was misleading. A new restaurant is going in there. No connections to Ginza/Kane Yama that I know of. Just used the names for building location, that's all. Yes, Ginza was great. Hope they last longer than Kane Yama did. And they don't store all their cleaning material and other clutter out back where you can see it as you go by on the golf cart. Kind of unappetizing, some of that stuff. However, with the construction starting at Kroger within a month or two, guess we'll have that to look at on the path back there.

Hey, we need another hookah bar, right? The Khalifa in Fayetteville probably has a spare belly dancer hanging around looking for more to do, too. Or the Grand Hookah bar at Wisdom Pointe.

PATIO DINING

Please, please, please learn a lesson from Johnny's Pizza and have outdoor dining, preferably under a roof (or at least some sort of shade) with ceiling fans. I bet Johnny's has tripled or more his income from that patio by moving from his 54W location. That is what we enjoy when carting...outdoor dining..like btr said, on the way to The Fred or just out for a ride.

I'm glad no national franchise frozen everything is going in there. Local owners who will enjoy catering to the locals here. Lots of lunch crowd from the industrial park looking for lunch, too, near the Crosstown area.

Hopefully, Gov. Deal signs that new law within the next 3 weeks that will allow PTC to have local control of golf carts crossing Hwy 74 at Crosstown. Then we can get over to Lake McIntosh on the cart, and more carts will come and go for a meal or takeout on their trips to and from the lake. This is good news.

I wrote that last Saturday and they did open last Monday. I was there on Monday and bought the strawberries. You are right. They are big berries, not the small juicy ones they have always had in the past.

I even called them a few days later to ask if these were bought from a supplier as they are just about what you can buy in Publix right now. I was told these are from their fields and they are the first crop of the season. You are right, I can wait for the smaller, juicier, sweeter ones. I'm glad someone else noticed the difference, too.

While Obama may be getting a lesson from Putin.....

on how big-boy world leaders play this game called world politics, you can't say Barry isn't getting anything done. He has filled out his Presidential Bracket for the men's NCAA basketball tournament and had ESPN visit the White House to unveil his Final Four for television viewers. While the ratings were probably much higher than for his State of the Union speeches, he was relegated to SportsCenter at 9:30 this morning. For those who can't stand the suspense, the Basketball-in-Chief commanded that Michigan State, Louisville, Florida and Arizona will be in the Final Four. He then issued an Executive Order declaring Michigan State will be National Champions.

Meanwhile on that pesky situation with Russia, rumor is Barry is trying to find where Hillary put that embarrassing "reset button" before she left town. I guess he wants to hit "reset" again since Putin could not possibly pay any less attention to him or his "sanctions".

It's all part of the "Big Lie". There is a famous quote by Joseph Goebbels that sums up their adeptness at the art of lying:

"The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous."

All you have to do is substitute "Liberal" for "English".

memo to the Coweta driver

who decided to drive into and thru the pine trees on the side of Crosstown instead of taking the road into Taco Bell. There are easier ways to get a chalupa. Hope you are okay, looks like the air bags did their job.

No Rules Driving....

is a sport played down here in Miami and is similar to its near cousin No Rules Football that's played "down under". The object of No Rules Driving is to do whatever is necessary to get ahead of the driver ahead of you. Traffic controls are placed only to make this game a challenging and the more that are disregarded adds to the overall score. Points are deducted if you are a courteous driver.

I'll be glad to get home.

Barry & his Moochelle

have left for a lovely vacation weekend at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo.

Adolph Putin has killed (or has him on his deathbed, depending who you believe) the former president of Ukraine who dared to cross him.

VPOTUS Biden left today to go to the Virgin Islands for a week long vacay with Dr. Jill.

Diphead SOS John Kerry took a 1500 mile detour on his way home from Kiev today to stop in Jordan to be told by the king that Palestinian prezbo Abbas has said that he will not accept Israel's demands to be recognized as a Jewish state. This is 9 months into Kerry's peace talks. Now Arab leaders are getting pissed at Barry for not putting any pressure on the Israelis for concessions.

Adolph Putin's spokesman says on Russian TV today that calls for talks between Russia and Ukraine "make us smile".

The US astronauts at the International Space Station have no way to get back to earth unless the Russians agree to fly them back. This country has NO shuttle or vehicle that can bring our astronauts home.

Two days ago, before the Senate Armed Services committee hearing on military budget cuts, dipstick Chuck Hagel was asked by Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska, (where the US Strategic Command is based at Offutt AFB) is in charge of our nation's nuclear missiles whether he thought "any additional reductions, whether it's going to be warheads or launchers, that's kind of premature, wouldn't you say? It's not really practical at this time?"

Sen. Kay Hagen, D-N.C. complained to Hagel that his budget "would result in the inactivation of the Air Force's 440th Air Lift Wing from Pope Airfield at Fort Bragg which would mean there would be no Air Force planes stationed at Pope Airfield". She further stated this would undercut the readiness of "the 82nd Airborne Division, and then all the other major units we have at Fort Bragg".

Note here..part of my youth was spent on Offutt AFB. I was in the underground command center. I was out to the missile silos in western Nebraska and South Dakota. My little bro was 82nd Airborne and a Ranger. I've seen the operations at Pope. I was in a civilian crowd at Ft. Bragg when at an airshow there, a C-130 cargo plane with 6 on board misjudged the load of the tank on the pallet in the back they were going to drop on the dirt runway in front of us, came in headfirst, and crashed into a bank of trees at the end of the runway where the plane exploded, four on board were killed and one on the ground. Us civilians had debris hit us as we ran for our lives. I grew up with all this chit.

Just to repeat. Our CINC and the VEEP are vacationing in sunny Florida and the Islands. The Secretary of Defense (gag me) 2 days ago is insisting on military cuts to decimate our military.

May God Bless what we all remember to be the greatest country on this planet. And pray for Europe and the Ukrainian people.

I'm done.

Unfortunately, it makes no difference whether Barry is in Washington or Key Largo. Putin has made it very clear how concerned he is about Barry and how easy it is to ignore him. Remember Syria and Barry's "red line"??? Every world leader knows he is a bag of hot air, and I'm putting that nicely.

Plus, the real positive of Barry working on his golf game in Key Largo is that he was not implementing another one of his screwed-up ideas. At least not this weekend.....

Yes, as in we haven't had to see him standing in front of some crowd of Valerie Jarrett assembled minorities while he rants about his newest and greatest feat of excellence to save the lives of the multitudes of mindless followers he has cling to him like dog fur to your pantlegs.

The real reason he had to leave D.C. that has not been reported by those oh so middle of the ground reporters that sniff his butt was the profound sorrow he is experiencing due to the loss of Alyssa Mastromonaco in his big house there.

That, coupled with d-bag Rahm Emanuel's revelation (on that new CNN campaign-commercial-for-reelection-so-called-documentary) that he and Barry decided they hate, just hate having to make so many decisions. So, when they retire to Hawaii together, they are going into business to sell t-shirts on the beach, white only, size medium only, so they don't have to decide anything ever again.

The really pathetic part of this inside joke the 2 of them have? Emanuel told this in a school in Chi-town, to a group of students who look to be early teens or younger, while he sat on a desk. There is the role model for the youth of Chicago and now the rest of this country. Of all the things anyone could consider to inspire greatness in our youth, this former chief of staff, current mayor of one of our largest cities, and former US Congressman chose this story to tell in a school system that he whines has a 56% dropout rate of black males. Kids, when you grow up, hate making decisions, hate your job, get out of town and do nothing in your retirement years. Yes, this CNN revelation was broadcast for all the world to see, just as Barry jetted off to the Keys. I am SO sure the timing is a coincidence. If you listened closely enough, you could hear Adolf Putin chuckling across the ocean as he listened in on his CNN feed, too.

MLC - Greatest Country

Still, can you name another?

I recall when Mr. Obama was elected the first time telling a friend (yes I do have them) that this would usher in a decade of new socialist policies. It is not without precedent. From the election of Teddy Roosevelt until the death of FDR the United States moved from a free market capitalistic society to a Progressive (socialist) society, that movement has only been interrupted briefly since then. Our government has continued to march in one direction and will not stop until the ultimate outcome of democracy is fulfilled.

With all that said, we still have the best country on earth, because we can change it peacefully, if we dare.

I heard about the crash

Yesterday, but didn't hear names. I was a patient of Dr. Curtis. A good man. Didn't know the others. Dr. Curtis always ran the medical clinic at the air show.

plane crash

Dad Vince Rossetti was a big homebuilder in FC(Raven Homes) and his sons continued on in the same business. Mike's daughter and mine went to school together all of their lives and I knew the family pretty well. Dr. Curtis was my old doctor for a while too. Just awful.

Men vs. Women: How to Change Oil

An oldie but a goody…

WOMEN:

1. Pull up to Jiffy Lube or Valvoline Instant Oil Change when the mileage reaches 3,000 miles since the last oil change.

2. Drink a cup of coffee while they change the oil.

3. 15 minutes later, write a check and leave with a properly maintained vehicle.

Cost: $29.99 oil change, $2.00 coffee. Total $32.00

MEN:

1. Wait until Saturday, drive to the auto parts store. Buy a case of oil, oil filter, kitty litter, hand cleaner (don't forget a little tree air freshener). Write a check to the auto parts store for approximately $50.

2. Stop by 7/11 on the way home, buy a case of beer. Write a check for $20.00.

3. Drive home with oil and beer.

4. Open beer, enjoy it.

5. Spend 30 minutes looking for the jack stands.

6. Find the jack stands (finally) under the kid's pedal car, jack the car up.

7. Open another beer, drink it.

8. Place drain pan under engine.

9. Look for 9/16" box end wrench for drain plug

10. Give up looking ten minutes later, find crescent wrench.

11. Unscrew drain plug.

12. Drop drain plug into pan of hot oil. Splash hot oil onto your hands and face in the process. Cuss and swear.

13. Crawl out from under car, wipe hot oil from hands and face. Throw some kitty litter on the spilled oil.

14. Open another beer while watching the last drops of oil drain.

15. Spend 30 minutes looking for the oil filter wrench.

16. Give up looking for oil filter wrench, crawl under car and hammer a flat-head screwdriver through the oil filter and twist it off.

17. Crawl out from under car, splashing hot oil everywhere from newly made holes in oil filter.

18. Cleverly hide used oil filter in trash to avoid those pesky environmental penalties. Open another beer.

19. Install new oil filter, making sure to apply a thin coat of oil to the gasket.

20. Pour the first quart of new oil into engine.

21. Oops! Now remember the drain plug (removed in step 11). It's still swimming in the now-warm oil in the drain pan.

22. Throw more kitty litter on the quart-sized oil puddle on the floor.

23. Open another beer and drink it.

24. Find drain plug with a minimum of spillage, hand-tighten in drain plug socket. Drink beer.

25. Crawl under car (getting oily kitty litter embedded in neck and arms). Tighten drain plug with crescent wrench, but this time, it's slippery. Bang your knuckles on the frame while tightening drain plug.

26. Throw crescent wrench across the garage in anger. Throw a fit because crescent wrench hits bowling trophy (which wife wouldn't let stay in the house).

27. Open another beer and drink it.

28. Clean hands, bandaging where needed to stop blood flow.

29. Pour in five quarts of fresh oil.

30. Lower car from jack stands. Smile at your handiwork. Open another beer and drink it.

31. Move car back to discover oil puddles you missed; apply more kitty litter to missed areas.

32. Test drive car to make sure oil doesn't leak.

33. Get pulled over a block from the house by local police, get arrested for DUI.

34. Call loving wife and bail bondsman.

35. Next day, get car out of impound yard.

Cost: $50 parts, $20 beer, Impound fee $75, Bail $1500, DUI $2500 minimum. Total $4145 (but you know the job was done right!)

HB 885 medical marijuana drafts

To be delivered to the Capitol building in Atlanta next week.

“WHEREAS, the General Assembly asks forgiveness before God as they communicate to the citizens of the State of Georgia that they have been misinformed for over seventy years regarding the medicinal value of marijuana.

“WHEREAS, the General Assembly has recognized a drop in church membership reported by the Christian Coalition as a result of their opposition to marijuana.

“WHEREAS, it is recognized that hog tying Grandma and shooting the family dog for barking because Grandma is growing marijuana for her aches and pains has similarity to the era when witches were being burned at the stake.

“WHEREAS, the current war on marijuana is unholy.

“WHEREAS, an aging prison population is putting a strain on the state budget as healthcare starts to include geriatric care.

“WHEREAS, drug war money which produces negative results would be much better spent on education which is known to produce positive results,

“Article 5 of Chapter 34 of Title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the use of cannabis for treatment of cancer and glaucoma, is amended by revising the article as follows:

“Article 5.  This article shall be known and may be cited as 'Haleigh's Hope Act. The program shall be expanded to include all senior citizens who have reached 60 years of age to treat their aches and pains brought on by years of hard labor of which one third went to pay for taxes including the lost drug war.

Crime Scene at 305 Hip Pocket just now?

Drove by Pebblepocket park and heard a gunshot. On down to address above and PD and GBI there with the driveway blocked off with crime scene tape. An adult male was sitting on the front steps. The GBI seemed to already know about the gunshot in the park and could have cared less. "Yup, we'll take care of it". And smiled. On the way back, looked like a female leo in the park, maybe discharging a weapon there??

Thank you. That explains some of it. I still don't get the need for the gunshot that I heard. Or was that what you call "a special remediation agent"? Was it blown up in the park? In any event, thank you for the information. Sometimes we have to hear about things from The Citizen and we are thankful for your reporting.

Just sharing a possible 'moment'! While watching the Pro Bowl - my husband realized that we remember when we thought Dion was a 'young' pro bowl player - and tonight, he was an OLD pro bowl player. Thank heavens WE haven't aged.
