FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

========================

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

That needs some

'splaining. Did it look like a pathblock..like a roadblock?

Here's another one. I don't know who is in charge of the PD facebook page, but today there is a very cutsie photo (I reeeeeally hope our PD is not wasting time photographing stuff like this) of a reward notice for a lost cat that is attached to a tree. Attached to this are all the "awwww" comments, which just makes this such a wow moment for the PD.

Am I missing something? Is there not a law in our city under PROHIBITED SIGNS Sec. 66-5 (4) Signs attached to fences, trees, utility poles, boxes or traffic control devices: signs painted....etc......?

So, we have a lawbreaker attaching a hot pink sign to a tree and the PD makes it a feel good thing and advertises it for them, too? Sworn to uphold the laws of PTC, Interim Chief McCollum?

The joys of a commute

Got caught this morning at 5:30 behind an SUV Travelling a whopping 20 mph on Peachtree Parkway. The driver then kept pushing the brakes at each road they past and every driver going the opposite direction.

Now, I'm stuck on I85 due to an overturn tractor trailer. Hopefully the passengers in the cars the truck fell onto are ok. Helicopter on site with blades stopped. Will be here for a while.

Well, don't listen to me then

You mean the breakdown lane that there is no room to break down in cuz it's being used as a passing lane?

Or do you mean the emergency vehicle lane that first responders could use to save lives and transport injured and dying?

Yeah, you got that right. Who knew driving in some rain was so dangerous. Not just from the rain, but from the idjuts out there with you.

I used to drive through 2-3 foot snowdrifts with 40mph winds rocking my black 67 Plymouth Valiant while my windshield wipers froze up with a 3 on the tree and would make it to work every day (and evening when I worked 2nd shift). Know why? There were NO phones to call or text anyone if you broke down!!! So, you learned to go slow and pay attention. So did everyone else around you. What a concept!

In an hour.

Man I hate the people who think the emergency lane is for them. Then get mad when you don't let them in as you wait patiently following the rules.

2.5 hits and counting for a 45 min commute.

I was right there with you -

I was right there with you - about 20 cars back from the actual wreck - and it was amazing how many people were using the emergency lane to try and get up to the 64 exit....and then who just parked their cars in the emergency lane. I wish the GSP officer who showed up just before the road was re-opened would have ticketed them all. Too important to wait like the rest of us = not too important to get a ticket and pay the price for being impatient.

Okay, now the bright side

think of this. You are not sitting on some runway in a plane loaded with sneezing, coughing strangers who like to talk in your ear while the captain says it will only be a few more minutes till the weather front clears up and you will be #123 cleared to take off.

And the guy next to you is named Tamba (nice to meet you--ahchoo) and he can't wait to see his wife again...who just got back from her Liberian girl's weekend away last week.

Just spotted a LARGE black feline run from the woods into a neighbors back yard then back into the woods across the street from the PTC Hwy 54 Publix.

This animal is at least 50 Lbs and has obviously escaped from somewhere.

Could be a Black Panther...

Pretty far north for one to be in this area, but could be.

A quick google found this..

Reported sightings of black panthers in Georgia are common, but I don’t consider any of them valid. The black panther is actually a rare color morph of the jaguar, a species that naturally occurs only in Central and South America. Black panther “sightings” in Georgia and elsewhere in the United States are most likely attributable to otters, black bears, black housecats, black labs, or way too many Budweisers

MLC, so has Pat Boone given up touting old folks' showers and

moved on to chicken (Perdue)? I always thought he was okay, although a little too sugary sweet, and then I heard him say that he insisted on being in the delivery room when his daughter(s) gave birth. That kinda turned me off--maybe I am in the minority but I have always felt the birthing was time for the husband and wife to be together and if husband was not around, Mom or a sister. Now it seems everyone can go in and it is all on film for anyone who wants to see. Too much for me.

Good description. Yes, too sugary sweet. My father used to whistle Pat Boone songs and when I would roll my eyes and feign my disdain, he whistled even louder. MLC, we were stationed at Orlando and Homestead most of the

time. So I didn't get to see much of the world. My husband spent most of the time gone, mostly TDY---by gov't orders--not to get away from me or maybe it was and good ole Uncle supplied the excuse. I remember him being over in the region that we are now or still having all the trouble with--guess things never change, except that it was not a war situation at that time. I don't think people understand just how hard military families have it sometimes. Fathers spend a lot of time away from their children and miss much of their growing up and Mom's are left to be both Mom and Dad. Not complaining just telling how it is or at least was. I had a three year old, a two year old and came home from the hospital with twins on Friday morning. My husband got us settled into the house, said good-bye and said he would see us Monday evening as he had week-end duty. Welcome home!!! Wasn't all bad, made some life-long friends and good memories. Sadly, he did'nt get to see his family grow up. But that is life and we move on---

Korea, Waco, Vance, Laredo, Schilling, Zaragoza, Westover, Offutt. That's most of them with lots of TDY mixed in, too. I thought we'd lose him during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We were in Zaragoza and it was terrifying. Mom had to pack one of those huge military duffle bags for her and us kids, in case of evacuation. We had the air raid drills in school with warnings that we could be bussed from school and taken away with no notice and might not see our parents for a while. My mother had 7 pregnancies and 4 survived. 4 under the age of 9, with one being 6 weeks old when we shipped overseas. She was going to be held back if she didn't go into labor when she did. Yes, you and she and others were soldiers, too, not just the men. Pretty ones, but tough as nails. There is not enough room to write the number of times I heard my father say, "You mind your mother and be good for her while I am gone." And us saying, "Yes, sir! Bye daddy". The final words came from mom, "You heard what your father said, now go outside and play." We did a lot of playing outside. lol

MLC, you certainly know what it is from the child's angle.

During the Cuban Missle Crisis we were residing in Miami (near Homestead AFB) and the Army set up camp in the large parking lot in our subdivision. That was really something to see. It was a novelty for the children who were not familiar with the military up that close but it soon became so familiar that no one even noticed it anymore. I do wish we had had the opportunity to travel more outside the country while we were active military but it was not in the cards for us. Not only were the wives military as you state--so were the children, often having Dad go off and not knowing when you would see him again, Dad missing birthdays, births, graduations, etc., enrolling in new schools with all that entailed, and having to make new friends with every transfer. Yep, when a married man is in the military his whole family serves with him. I still have so much respect for anyone connected with the military in any way. Thanks for your post--it is always so interesting to learn about other people's lives. There is so much to learn from and about each other.

Good one Cy-thanks

Here's another one. If you recorded an answering machine response that has your phone # instead of your name for the "Sorry, we're not home message", like,"You have reached 770-780-blah and we can't answer right now, leave a message after the tone", I found out that live sleaze bags that sit at automated dialer stations that dial #'s for them and they don't have a clue the # that answers (your machine in this case), and when they hear your recording, they then get your number just by listening and can call back repeatedly using your phone number that (you) your answering machine just gave to them.

So, change your message to the default recorded message that came with the machine or phone, usually a voice that says, "Hello, leave a message after the tone", or just make sure your own recording does not include your name OR phone #.

Can you hear those hot shots up in the air from where you are? I hear the big bangs and one really low flyover came screaming over a few hours ago. Thought they were coming right at us, it was so loud.

and it seems to come and go. I have used bottled water ever since we had that other episode with the smelly water when the powers that be kept telling us nothing was wrong and then--guess what--something was wrong. I feel I should be compensated for all the bottled water I have bought for this reason. I use the city water for washing clothes etc, but never for cooking or drinking. Hey all, Crosstown Grille is open

They opened Monday. Soft opening. Drove by and looked in and wasn't planning on eating out, so had a cold one and some appetizers. It's a keeper. Nice bar (2 of them, one small one). Nice big booths in the middle of the main dining room and tables along the walls. Actually not much for walls in the main dining room, nice glass french doors onto the patio around 2 sides. After dark, it's a little dark on the patio..will have to work on more lighting maybe. And yes, the aeroponic gardens were ponicing tonight. Had some of the greens from them and I must say, never tasted greens so good. Never have been one to say salad greens taste better or worse, but these are definitely better.

The waitstaff and bartender (might be a manager, he used to work at Big Daddy's Oyster Bar) were very attentive. This is a real live grown up restaurant and bar. Not chain, not for lots of idiot kids running around and squirming in their seats while parents ignore them. If you have well behaved, well-mannered quiet kids, yes. If not, stay away. That should cut down on about a good percentage of PTC families who have never taught children how to behave in a nice restaurant. Great menu.

If you want to be with laid back boomers and generally mature adults of all ages having a fun, relaxing drink and dinner (or lunch), then go. You will like it. Best thing to happen in Braelinn in a long, long time. If you go in the next couple of weeks, they are still learning the menu and are open to suggestions and service was great for a new place. Let them know what you like. Don't be in a hurry if you go.

Thumbs up and welcome to PTC, Maguire family. I plan to play and hope you plan to stay!

Well thanks for letting the cat out of the bag. Went to try them out last night around 8:30. Wait time was 1 hour. That made El Ranchero an attractive alternative. I guess, in retrospect, if you hadn't made your announcement I wouldn't have been there either. Hope for better luck the next time.

I don't know, I would think they would have been busy even with my cat in the bag. Sorry, was just trying to recommend a new place and I'm even sorrier you had to go to El Ranchero. If you find out, let me know...sure doesn't sound like any Fayette County watering hole, does it? Flummoxed me all night, thinking about it!

Is that in Tyrone where that fancy barber shop was years ago?

Yes, the place was called Chaps. It was a barber shop in front and a bar in back. They did karaoke on weekends and were always packed.

Tonight...all 3 segments were excellent. The FBI director...impressive. Doggie story...woof, woof! Pharma and medicine and cancer...eye opening.

The gospel according to Jim Pace

So, you have lost your followers here in Fayette? You go to Newnan and tell their C of C that the only thing stopping a bridge is fear? Oh no, Mr. developer Pace. That isn't the only thing stopping it. And no, it is not a Georgia project. It is not your project, either. You can build your 3000 home Coweta City planned community and you can finance a route to I85 over in Coweta. I am sure Coweta has big buck tax breaks they will fork over, too.

The government

Can't do anything right, including protecting the White House.

Yet, we keep feeding the beast. In today's hearings, more money was discussed, who are they kidding?

BTW, current status of the Senate races score +8 for the GOP. We may finally be rid of Harry Reid, but we will still have an incompetent President for two more years.

Michael Douglas Belated Happy Birthday

The big seven ohhh!

Seems Mr. D. had a birthday last Thursday and was right here in Fayette. Check out the cake that Cutie Pies in Togwatee Village made him.. And someone made him a bagel, lox and cheese, too.

3 Afghan Officers Who Went Missing

on Cape Cod Update #2.

Seems these 3 sahibis spent last Friday night at "Cape Cod's only Gentleman's Club". With 5 others, till closing, around 1AM. Spent 2 or 3 hours there. Two Captains and a Major. How does an 18 year old become a Captain in the Afghan army? Don't answer that.

You said sometime earlier:

Of course, this requires American leadership that will communicate a strategy concerning our determination to defend those individuals, including arming people, something the current regime is incapable of doing.

Obama and Kerry convincing many Arab countries and our western allies to join us in destroying this evil among us! No one wants more war and death - except possibly those who make money supplying the war machines on our globe. Where are our local leaders - CONGRESS? Home. With their rating - they have reason to worry about re-election. It was good to see the Congress support our leader and other world leaders in this endeavor to stop ISIS. This evil is not our problem alone,

3 Afghan Officers at Niagara Falls

Just showed up and "presented themselves" on the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Guess their Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure weekend has come to an end.

Just a nice drive across I-90 to the Falls, that's all. They were about two weeks early for the truly gorgeous foliage they were expecting but, alas, the trip back to the homeland leaves Wednesday.

However, the new photos they took with their brand spankin' new iPhone 6's will show those back in the homeland what the word "green" looks like. And what a breathtaking country we truly have here, so peaceful and friendly and lush and civilized. Maybe they stopped at a truly American traditional Christian church service yesterday morning to see what we all are so passionate about in our very understated way. Maybe they had some apple cider and a just picked McIntosh apple at a fall country fair in the Berkshires.

Maybe they saw a country border crossing that is just breathtaking in it's beauty with 2 countries sharing a common philosophy that we can all get along on one continent without fear of death or mutilation or imprisonment for speaking our minds or professing our faith to whatever deity we choose.

I just hope Tom Bodett left the light on for them.

Not to Worry 3 Afghan Military Officers Missing on Cape Cod

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2014/09/three_afghan...

Did they take the ferry over to the Vineyard in hopes of catching up with Barry for a round of golf?

If they decided to take a tourista trip to Provincetown, they are seeing things the Quran has never, ever spoken about.

and has created quite a stir.

Anyone care to wonder how many illegals crossed the border today?

The answer is: No one can tell you. They can only tell you how many they caught NOT how many they missed!

3 Afghan Officers Now Guests of ICE

Newest update. These 3 stooges are now in the custody of US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement as of this morning. They are being charged with administrative immigration violations and placed into removal proceedings. They were interviewed by Canadian authorities last night.

I guess Tom Bodett didn't leave the light on for them. I don't think the US govt. or the Canadian govt. will, either.

Oh, and just in case, knock 'em out and stick a GPS device inside them, before they head back to the homeland. I'm sure we have a satellite up there somewhere that can keep track of them.

Cy I care to wonder

What we would be talking about tonight if that guy had explosives attached to his body. The fact that he could make it INside the WH is unconscionable . Someone near and dear to me used to work inside and outside 1600 Pa. Ave. There are so many layers of protection that failed it is unreal.

While I know this prezbo has, by far, damaged this country more than any other in history, I also realize it is a home and a symbol of our democracy. This is a massive failure of security and I am furious that this prezbo publicly came out in support of this utter failure of duty by those in charge of keeping OUR White House safe. This is the standard he sets for his security team, our military and all law enforcement under his control.

Did you see John Kerry answer NBC's Andrea Mitchell's question as he walked by her today about the porous border of Turkey and Syria and how it needs to be protected? Oh, yes, Kerry said, the Turkish govt. needs to get control of their border. Another look in the mirror and repeat what you just said moment for the BO administration. Talk about hypocritical!

and while we sit comfortably in front of our computers, the leaders of the globe have joined together and attacked ISIS! (This morning's news!) I think the global leaders are protecting us against the evil of ISIS. (if you have ever been to the White House, you realize that our President and his family were not in danger, and thankfully this incident will point out the weakness in protecting OUR White House - so that a more tragic incident will not occur.)

While we are attacking - ISIS still holds hostages. We don't have the entire picture of what we're dealing with - but although pundits try to play the blame game during this crisis - our military and the President seem to be working together with the rest of the world - especially the Arab world. Congress is at home . . .hmmmmmm.

Don't be profiling now

Can't judge people by the color of their skin - but I'm sure them New Englander's wouldn't stoop that low. Guess why they wouldn't come up missing at a base down in Dixie?
