FREE SPEECH for the week of Sept. 24 – Sept. 30

Free Speechers, here’s your “have at it” page again.

Post on topic or off topic or make up your own topic.

Here are some anonymous contributions that showed up in my email last week to get your pumps primed.

I have some advice on how to fix our messed up schools and budget deficit. Don’t cut the teacher pay, but cut their extra supplement by 5%, start charging for school busses, collect all the money we are owed from the out of county kids who have been caught in our schools illegally and do NOT let them back in, quit letting kids go to different schools in the county with “special permission” as that is what messed up our schools to begin with, get rid of the senior tax exemption if they have grandkids living with them that are in our schools, and start charging the out of county teachers kids that go to our schools. Maybe even stop serving hot meals. Not popular decisions, but necessary to save our school system. There you have it, and the advice was free.

WOW,WOW,WOW. I just got put in the group that doesn’t pay federal income tax. The group that Romney says he doesn”t worry about because we expect the gov’t to take care us. My wife and I paid income tax until our retirement. Our retirement is not enough that we have to pay income tax. Mr. Romney, you really are out of touch with the lower middle class. I get nothing, natta, from the government; never have. Mr. Romney, you need to go into the cities and go to the poorer areas in the morning. You would see thousands of people going to work every morning on the subways and buses. Most of these folks go to jobs that do not pay a living wage. Mr. Romney, many of the folks clean homes, cars, offices, and have more than one generation living in a small apartment and they need government’s help. These folks furnish the young to fight our wars. How much is it worth to you, Mr. Romney, to have the poor kids to die in war so that you and the higher class won’t have to? You just lost our vote. — Senoia, Ga.

E-gad. Yet another, too lengthy, dissertation from that Mr Parker in Peachtee City. ENOUGH! Even the AJC limits letter, faxes and e-mails to so many words or less. His using The Citizen to hear himself talk (and voicing his political views among other things) is getting to be too much. Who made him king? I'm just about ready to just throw your paper in the trash when it shows up, because it is the same thing over and over (about the same stuff, from the same people). We are just WEARY of it. Must say, though, I love the editorial cartoons!

Thank you for the excellent article by Derek Wolter. It was superb. Kudos to you for giving us a good dose of thinking print.

Obama and Kerry convincing many Arab countries and our western allies to join us in destroying this evil among us! No one wants more war and death - except possibly those who make money supplying the war machines on our globe. Where are our local leaders - CONGRESS? Home. With their rating - they have reason to worry about re-election. It was good to see the Congress support our leader and other world leaders in this endeavor to stop ISIS. 3 Afghan Officers at Niagara Falls

Just showed up and "presented themselves" on the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Guess their Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure weekend has come to an end.

Just a nice drive across I-90 to the Falls, that's all. They were about two weeks early for the truly gorgeous foliage they were expecting but, alas, the trip back to the homeland leaves Wednesday.

However, the new photos they took with their brand spankin' new iPhone 6's will show those back in the homeland what the word "green" looks like. And what a breathtaking country we truly have here, so peaceful and friendly and lush and civilized. Maybe they stopped at a truly American traditional Christian church service yesterday morning to see what we all are so passionate about in our very understated way. Maybe they had some apple cider and a just picked McIntosh apple at a fall country fair in the Berkshires.

Maybe they saw a country border crossing that is just breathtaking in it's beauty with 2 countries sharing a common philosophy that we can all get along on one continent without fear of death or mutilation or imprisonment for speaking our minds or professing our faith to whatever deity we choose.

I just hope Tom Bodett left the light on for them.

Did they take the ferry over to the Vineyard in hopes of catching up with Barry for a round of golf?

If they decided to take a tourista trip to Provincetown, they are seeing things the Quran has never, ever spoken about.

Newest update. These 3 stooges are now in the custody of US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement as of this morning. They are being charged with administrative immigration violations and placed into removal proceedings. They were interviewed by Canadian authorities last night.

I guess Tom Bodett didn't leave the light on for them. I don't think the US govt. or the Canadian govt. will, either.

Oh, and just in case, knock 'em out and stick a GPS device inside them, before they head back to the homeland. I'm sure we have a satellite up there somewhere that can keep track of them.

What we would be talking about tonight if that guy had explosives attached to his body. The fact that he could make it INside the WH is unconscionable . Someone near and dear to me used to work inside and outside 1600 Pa. Ave. There are so many layers of protection that failed it is unreal.

While I know this prezbo has, by far, damaged this country more than any other in history, I also realize it is a home and a symbol of our democracy. This is a massive failure of security and I am furious that this prezbo publicly came out in support of this utter failure of duty by those in charge of keeping OUR White House safe. This is the standard he sets for his security team, our military and all law enforcement under his control.

Did you see John Kerry answer NBC's Andrea Mitchell's question as he walked by her today about the porous border of Turkey and Syria and how it needs to be protected? Oh, yes, Kerry said, the Turkish govt. needs to get control of their border. Another look in the mirror and repeat what you just said moment for the BO administration. Talk about hypocritical!

and while we sit comfortably in front of our computers, the leaders of the globe have joined together and attacked ISIS! (This morning's news!) I think the global leaders are protecting us against the evil of ISIS. (if you have ever been to the White House, you realize that our President and his family were not in danger, and thankfully this incident will point out the weakness in protecting OUR White House - so that a more tragic incident will not occur.)

While we are attacking - ISIS still holds hostages. We don't have the entire picture of what we're dealing with - but although pundits try to play the blame game during this crisis - our military and the President seem to be working together with the rest of the world - especially the Arab world. Congress is at home . . .hmmmmmm.

CalSTRS (California Teacher Retirement) has just over S109,393,000,000 (2013) invested in Global Equity (stocks). That's about 58% of their total investment pro folio. You're absolutely right! Their wise investments of the money we have earned in the US gives us money to spend in the US - and this money is taxed by the US!! Money working for the US!! Can't say that about all the businessmen who have taken their companies OUT OF THE US in order not to pay taxes!! (Cheney????) If the financial advisor you're using is not investing your funds wisely (and globally) so that you can continue to contribute to the US economy - maybe you should take another look at how those funds are being used. US educators (California teachers) do spend money in the US. How about the company you work for? :-)

Is this the future of the frontage and green along Robinson Road?

Notice of Public Hearing

The Mayor and City Council of Peachtree City will hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 7:00 P.M. It will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers at 151 Willowbend Road in Peachtree City. All interested parties are invited to attend and be heard.

The purpose of the hearing is to allow for public discussion of a proposed variance for the property located at 424 Robinson Road. The subject tract is 4.36 acres in size and is zoned R-43 Residential. Martin Dodson Homes desires to remove the existing home and then subdivide the overall tract into four one-acre lots to accommodate four custom homes.

The city s Thoroughfare Plan classifies Robinson Road as a community collector. Section 803(a)(6) of the city s Street Design and Construction Standards Ordinance stipulates No direct residential access (drive cuts) onto arterials and collector thoroughfares shall be allowed unless a variance is first granted by the city council of Peachtree City.

The Applicant is requesting a variance from Section 803(a)(6), specifically to permit the relocation of an existing driveway, which would become a shared driveway and provide access to two of the new residential lots, and to construct a new driveway onto Robinson Road to provide access to one of the new residential lots.

An existing shared driveway would provide access to the fourth residential lot. The existing driveway provides access to three residential lots behind the Hayes tract, and the Applicant desires to utilize this driveway to provide access to one of the new residential lots. In order to do so, the Applicant is requesting a variance from the definition of driveways as included within the Land Development Ordinance, which stipulates residential driveways shall not serve more than two single-family residential lots.

Information pertaining to this public hearing is available at City Hall, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.

Elfie - Don't understand the problem

Nothing about this variance discusses losing the greenery along Robinson.

They are simply asking for a variance for a shared driveway onto Robinson. This is because they prefer no driveways.

I don't have a problem with this as long as the driveway is wide enough for two vehicles to pass without someone having to stop on Robinson to make a right hand turn into the driveway.

There are already driveways that lead onto Robinson. I don't see an issue here.

Please enlighten me if I am wrong.

I'm worried about a precedence being set. All along Robinson are large pieces of property that could be subdivided with long, narrow lots opening to Robinson, with minimal impact on current residents homes compared to the generated income. Look at Camp Creek and the area south of Crosstown. The few homes that due have driveways onto Robinson have several acres with homes set far back from the street with room for large garages and turn arounds. The exception would be the old rental with a typical driveway that is to be demolished, which always has vehicles use the yard as a turn around and parking spot.

I understand

I see this as a possible upgrade. If the design has ample greenery out front and one wide driveway that would allow cars to enter and exit, I think this is something we can allow.

I drive Robinson every day. I'm more concerned about deer or bikers running into my path than anything else.

not 1+ acre lots

If you look at the plots, each lot is 1 acre but very wide and narrow, another variance needed. Homes will need to be set very close to the street and the city is requiring at least 20" easement for the existent golf cart path. Who will pay for an acreage home site on a busy road? The current home is a rental that is empty most of the time. When there are tenants they seldom last more than a few months. Other homes on Robinson have long driveways with turn arounds and are set back from the road. What will be the parking options for residents visitors, UPS and mail trucks, etc...Hopefully not curb parking on Robinson. Robinson Road is heavy traffic in the morning and afternoons. It is a major link between south and north PTC. It's not uncommon to see 6-8 cars stopped behind the mail truck when servicing the few homes that already have street driveways near Spear. Homes that constantly go on the market without luck, and there are set far back from the street. How will the demolition and construction of four new homes and a road effect travel? It's a scrap piece of property left over from the original property owners(prior to Robinson Road being paved) who built Avalon Park. Why would the city give all these variances for an undesirable piece of property?

I know exactly where it is..

I have not viewed the site plan. 4.36 acres split up 4 ways equals more than acre each to me...maybe I need to take a look at it to see how it is laid out.

IF you owned the property, how would you feel about the zoning? Or do you think the City would be better off to leave that old house there?

I think they must have felt pretty good about the variances being approved or they would not have closed on said parcel. If there are already Acre or so lots on Robinson, this is pretty much a slam dunk. I do not see 2-3 more driveways being a huge issue myself.

I realize that opinions vary, let them hear your issues.

Just because you build it,

does not mean someone will buy it. Printed findings from the city staff presented at the July 10, 2014 city council meeting. "A typical lot within the R43 zoning district measures 150 wide by 290 in depth. Because of the configuration of the subject tract, the proposed lots would measure approximately 290 wide and 140 in depth. The configuration of the overall tract would create four narrow, but wide lots which is atypical of lots built in similarly zoned neighborhoods."

Barry Obama will be in DeKalb county Tuesday

The ruse he is putting on says he will be here to talk at the CDC about ebola.

The real reason he is here is to campaign for Nunn and Carter. He will be teaching the corrupt community organizers (of which he is king) of metro Atlanta how to phony up the ballot boxes with fraudulent voter forms from people who don't exist. You remember, a new ACORN. This time it's called The New Georgia Project. Housed out of a hotel in the city. Even Coweta County has received these phony voter registrations.

I bet our very own Board of Elections has been dealing with them. Seems these phony registration forms are the responsibility of each county elections office to verify authenticity. So, The New Georgia Project has been swamping county elections offices with them, and if the elections office does not have the staff or the where with all to research the validity, viola, a Nunn new voter on the rolls.

Nunn is a big deal for Barry. Moochelle met with her last week, then Bill Clinton met with her and now Barry. The machine is in overdrive. Barry is at a fundraiser thrown tonight in DC by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee..lining up some cash for Nunn and some more DC dirty political ads.

Of course, this is the new, focused prezbo. He said he is actually going to work all week and not play golf.

Here we go again--sending our troops into harm's way. It is not

enough that so many came home maimed in body and spirit fighting for a lost cause, now we will send them where ebola is rampant. I do not know how in good conscience we can send our young people there when the diagnosis seems to be certain death--or will they be used as guinea pigs to test the new antidotes? On top of that we will be sending millions of dollars that have been borrowed to yet another country. So who is there who will come to our rescue when we are attacked--who's troops will fight for our freedom, who's coffers will be emptied to re-build our country? I hope the day never comes when we will have to find out but we will be heading in that direction if we continue to spread ourselves so thin for every other country while neglecting our own borders and needs at home. As a strong, healthy country we can help others; depleted, with a tired, sick, understaffed military and old, worn-out infrastructure and constituency we can be of no help to ourselves much less others. Let's wake up to where we are heading.

I like Willys

Just not enough to go to that part of town on a Friday night until the traffic gets better. But that's me. I'll stick to the good service at El Ranchero.

Willys is bound to get traffic from those tired commuters that get stuck at the lights and crave a burrito to go.

Yes indeed - Mr. Cathy

was indeed a servant to the Lord, he will be missed by all that had the pleasure to meet him and know of his loving ways.

"God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them." - Hebrews 6:10

The world is a little poorer today but Heaven has no better angel.

My prayers are with his family at this sad departing.

RIP

The community will really miss Mr. Truett.

I remember years ago, shopping at Greenbrier Mall (when it was safe and nice) on the day the first Chic-Fil-A opened. They had employees standing at the front of the store handing out samples and coupons. Before that he had the Dwarf House near the airport. Look what it has grown to become.

Mr. Truett has helped many young people get an education and has done many wonderful things for the area, especially where needy young people are concerned. It is a world of difference to go into a Chic-Fil-A as opposed to the other fast food places. His employees are always neat, always greet you politely with a smile, and act as if they care that you are there. Not so at the other places. I am sure his son will carry on his legacy. He will be missed.

Butler building on JC Booth school grounds..

Built right up the hill from the Parkway....someone tell me this is not the final exterior finish on this building. No way a regular property owner in that area of town could get an approval for such an ugly building. It doesn't fit at all. What was the School Board thinking? Hideous is being kind to this building in that spot.

What gives?

from the endless political dialog aka the conga line.

If you are an unfortunate owner of a GM vehicle go to the website below and check to see if you car is affected with the unintended ignition key rotation problem. Be safe and take a look.

Slow motion war

Russia retaliates with bans on food imports from EU, U.S.
Farmers in Eastern Europe will be most affected, this is another fine mess our brilliant President has gotten us into.

Trade wars, especially surrounding food only play into the hands of dictators that want more power from a dependent population.

It can all end poorly for the world when the actual shooting breaks out.

At some point we need to decide based on the facts what our energy policy will be in the West, we can rely on the Mid-East and Russia or we can be self reliant. Let's not confuse the "Green" movement with the hydrocarbon reality and a road to world peace. Our need for oil is funding our enemies, let's snap out of it. Start drilling and building our own domestic refineries if we don't want to be blackmailed by tin star second rate dictators. Let them go deal with their domestic issues without blaming us for all their problems. Russia is in trouble, so is the Middle East our only interest in them is oil, let's cut it off.

John Kerry surfaces on Nantucket

on a pink girl's bicycle....

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/columnists/howie_carr/2014/08/carr_...

Howie Carr from the Boston Herald strikes again. I mean, really, can we take another 824 days of this?

Putin has 20 thousand or more troops on the border ready to invade Ukraine.

Netenyahu has just flattened terrorists on Israel's border in less than 30 days.

And we have...John Kerry.

Where you been? Kroger is doing a 43,000 sq. ft. expansion. They have taken over the shops on either end of their building and will expand on both ends upward and back into the woods. The back driveway will be just about along the cart path back there in a few areas when done in the fall of 2015. Here is some of it below:

http://thecitizen.com/articles/01-31-2013/braelinn-kroger-expansion-gets...

They are building a new path entrance point to the shopping center down closer to Crosstown Grille that will stay in place during construction and after, since the one next to El Ranchero is closed due to construction. The original path will reopen after construction again, too.

Thanks for the info. I'd

Thanks for the info. I'd forgotten about the expansion since it was announced so long ago. I didn't realize they were expanding rearward as well as to both sides, until I re-read the original article. Looking forward to a bigger, better (hopefully) store...

PTCGuy-no problem

Let me correct one thing I said in my previous post to you. I went by there tonight and the path entrance is still open. It will be closed soon and a new path will be built closer to Crosstown Grille in it's place. I sure am glad I'm not the Kroger tractor trailer delivery guy.

Obama's Ebola?

Am I the only one seeing the very obvious political motive behind the bruhaha being made about these 2 patients? The timing of it all? Today, we have a 12 noon touch down at Dobbins, just in time for the lunch hour news cycle. Coincidence? I think not. We have 3 black SUV's lined up to escort the ambulance, in addition to law enforcement and news crews lining the route and CNN headquarters right nearby. Coincidence? I think not.

All in time for Barry's African summit today with a state dinner tonight. All in time for Barry to hold the largest international gathering in DC ever. Other political and business leaders from Africa have been invited. A slew of street closures are planned for downtown DC in the next 3 days. The Office of Personnel Management has advised that federal employees work from home.

Funny, too, how the CDC is being given all this positive press time, in light of 2 very unprofessional actions by their employees in the last few months. Coincidence? I think not.

Where is the focus on these 2 humble and giving medical professionals? Give them and their families their privacy as they come home to heal.

Barry's virus, use it for all the political gain you can while an election is coming up. Meanwhile, a US General is killed in Afghanistan. How much time will the media devote to that travesty in the next 3 days? This is made public by the Pentagon at the same time as the Ebola doctor is being trailed by press to the hospital? Coincidence? I think not.

If the PM doesn't like being given advice from the people who are supplying him most of his arms and money then Obama should do what the first Bush did and cut off the aid.

Self Defense - MLC

There are countries in the Middle East and elsewhere that have citizens willing to die for their freedom and live in peace, if we're smart will send them all the equipment and training necessary to achieve this.

Of course, this requires American leadership that will communicate a strategy concerning our determination to defend those individuals, including arming people, something the current regime is incapable of doing.

Kim and crew have ruined my last shirt and blamed me. Although the young gal who works the window is as nice as she can be. The owners are never at fault....
