School system not too broke for $41K ‘study’

I am so frustrated by the usual 3-2 decision made by the school board to spend money the system doesn’t have. This time it is $41,000 for a study to bring a career academy into Fayette.

Almost 20 years ago I was offered the opportunity to serve on a study committee made up of community leaders — parents, teachers, local business people, finance experts, etc. — in order to study the need for building a replacement school for the very old Fayette County High School.

This volunteer committee produced a very professional and comprehensive report outlining the specifics on the need, the cost to build, and the particulars of construction and technology desires.

Why couldn’t a volunteer committee be formed for this study as well? Why are we so quick to spend money when we could ask for the community to pitch in?
