Hens only, no roosters allowed

With the blessing of the Fayette County Commission, a committee will research the idea of allowing female chickens to be raised in all zoning categories.

Current county rules deem chickens as “livestock” meaning they may only be raised on lots zoned agricultural-residential, which have a minimum lot size of 5 acres.

The suggestion came from County Commissioner Allen McCarty, who will chair the committee looking into the matter.

Commissioner David Barlow said his concern was to limit the number of hens on smaller lots to as few as three.

Commissioner Charles Oddo said he wants to make sure the chickens don’t bother the residents’ neighbors with sound or perhaps any infirmities they could potentially spread.

“If those can all be resolved, that’s good,” Oddo said.

Hmm, Chicken Houses

I seem to remember a chicken joint in Fayette County, Tx in which a movie was made in the 80's.

For a year's free delivery of "The C", can anyone name that chicken joint and the movie.

When you are ready Begin Here

CY, could that be "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (guess that

is permissable to post, since it is a legit movie title) starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds? Pretty bad movie as I remember. If I am the winner may I have a years supply of Chic-Fil-A instead since Cal is already nice enough to provide free delivery of "The C'? LOL

Cy, maybe the wife made you go but you will never convince me

you didn't enjoy Dolly and her 'Partons'. As I remember she wore some pretty low cut dreses in that movie. Ahem, did not see a reply as to my winnings----

MYTMITE - Winnings & Dolly

I'm sorry, delevery of The C is the standard prize scheme. I'll locate that "fine print" and post it someday. :-)

Oh about Dolly; you know the old saying "when you got it, flaunt it".

CY, a rather pithy contest if I may say so, especially since

Cal already sees that my paper reaches me in a timely manner and I can always read it on this site. All you rich white guys are alike--wanting to keep all your ill gotten gains to yourself. For shame.

Chickens & Administration

I can see it now--chickens become legal and Comm. McCarty proposes a new Dept to manage the effort. It would be the Dept of Chickenhen Runoff; T. Parrott would be transferred to supervise and he would be called Chief of HenDoo Control.

AtHomeGym: a chicken in every yard

I wonder how many people are looking past their vision of nice clean eggs to eat and how many know that chickens are omnivores?

Something troubled me about roosters being banned

";;;;;research the idea of allowing female chickens to be raised in all zoning categories." Oh, that's what it is - how do you "raise chickens" without a rooster? Are roosters allowed to visit or do the chickens have to leave Fayette County to be impregnated?

If the goal is to keep chickens only for the purpose of laying eggs, fine. Say that. Kind of sad and possibly cruel to the chicken creating all those eggs and not one will ever produce a little baby chick. The chicken must think she is producing eggs for reproductive reasons, so this is physiologically harmful. I think PETA will have something to say about that.

RWM, that reminds me of something from my childhood. Maybe

others remember it also. Always tickled me even tho I didn't know if it was accurate or not.

There was an old lady from Wooster,
Who had ten hens and one rooster;
The rooster died and my how she cried
'Now I can't have eggs like I usta."

Funny, Mighty Mite. You from Worchester, Mass?

I have heard that as well. Thanks for the memory.

I, for one, prefer hearing the rooster in the AM, but respect the rights of others who do not,

I am impressed about how tolerant I am of other people with different points of view.

I have begun 4 sentences (including this one) with the word "I".

Do you think I should run for mayor? Or would Haddix beat me in the "I" contest?

So, RWM, alas I am a truly southern gal. I, too, like the

roosters' crow, except when it is of the human persuasion--some of those just crow too much and too loud. No, do not think you should run for mayor--far too outspoken and opinionated LOL. NO, I think you definitely hold the "I" title---but it is a close call with quite a few on this site--myself probably included. Know any more limericks (that are permitted here, that is)? One I like as a kid and my children and grand and great-grands like it also:

There was a young lady for Niger,
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger;
They returned from the ride,
With the lady inside;
And the smile on the face of the tiger.
