Friday crash kills local teen, seriously wounds another

Deputies: second vehicle ran red light on Hwy. 54 near hospital

A two-car crash Friday afternoon claimed the life of a local teenager and left another teen hospitalized with serious injuries, according to Fayette County sheriff's deputies.

The crash killed Malcom Williams, 17, of Fayetteville and seriously injured Bismarck S. Delarosa, 18 of Fayetteville, deputies said.

Deputies said a second vehicle ran a red light and struck the 2004 Honda Accord which Delarosa was driving with Williams as a passenger.

The crash occurred on Ga. Highway 54 west of Fayetteville at the intersection of Old Norton and south Sandy Creek roads, deputies said. An investigation determined that Delarosa was driving his 2004 Honda Accord south on Sandy Creek Road with Williams in the passenger seat when they had a green light and entered the intersection.

At that time, a second vehicle driven eastbound on Hwy. 54 by Joshua M. Staley, 17, of Fayetteville also entered the intersection despite a red light, deputies said. Staley's 2008 Toyota Prius struck the passenger's side of Delarosa's car, deputies said.

Williams was taken to Piedmont Fayette Hospital where he died of injuries he received in the crash, deputies said. Delarosa was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition according to the latest information available to the sheriff's department. Staley received minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene, officials said.

All three persons in the crash were wearing their seatbelts at the time, according to the deputies' report, which notes the collision is still under investigation. Charges are expected to be filed in connection with the case, deputies said.

Hwy 54 Crash

God Bless all these teens. This is something that all families will live with for the rest of thier lives. I pray that Mr. Delarosa recovers completely. I pray that Mr. Williams family finds Peace. And I pray that Mr. Staley is lifted from a heavy heart.

I did not know any of these guys personally. My children do know Josh Staley. They say he is the nicest guy ever. He would never hurt anyone on purpose. So Josh hold your head high. This was an accident. That's why it is called an accident. As for all of us in our thirties, forties, fifties, etc. ,we all have had experience that changed our lives maybe not a drastic as this one but we all were seventeen once. Please lets forgive this guy just as Jesus does.

For all of the families involved, this will be a hard time for all. May God Bless you all.

So terribly sad

This fatal accident is so terribly sad. By any chance, was texting involved? Poor innocent kids.
