10 charged in PTC for minor in possession of alcohol

It was supposed to be a gathering to say good-bye to a friend, but when Peachtree City Police received a call about a burglary in progress the gathering ended with charges of minors in possession of alcohol.

Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove said the incident occurred on Aug. 3 when officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Laddington Lane. Taking the necessary precautions, officers positioned themselves around the house.

An officer approaching the rear of the house saw three people emerging and questioned them as to why they were there, reports said. All three subjects advised that they were at the residence to say goodbye to a friend who was moving out of state, according to reports.

Upon entering the residence and seeing that the house had no furniture, officers spoke with a 16-year-old female juvenile who had resided at the residence. She explained to officers that her family was moving to Texas the following day and that her family was staying in a nearby hotel.

Her mother was subsequently contacted and confirmed that the family was moving, adding that no one had authority to be in the residence.

Officers found several containers of alcoholic beverages in plain view of the teenagers and the female resident’s mother found a glass pipe and rolling papers in the daughter's purse, reports said.

Charged with a minor in possession of alcohol, but not taken into custody, were two 16-year-old female juveniles, 18-year-old Khalid Ali Murtaza, Maria S. Ancheta, 17, Devon Graves, 18, Sergio D. Saleh, 17, Brandon Graves, 18, Sarah King, 17, Chase Cannon, 17 and 17-year-old Nathan Bernth.

response to Husband and Fat...

I did not clear my sons name the court did.
The breathalyzer of 0 spoke to his character.
He was caught leaving the house after being there 5 min to say good bye to a friend who was moving. Leaving the house again showing his character. He should have been charged with unknowingly entry into a empty house although not sure a crime. I am sorry you did not know any good teens. I made the post as the Citizen refused a follow up story and one day when an employer does a search of him they will know there was more to the story. Yes some of the teens made poor choices.

10 teens 4 energy drinks that contained alcohol only one open, if there was a plan for a drinking party it was poor planning. I also in no way condone the pipe or papers it is very poor decision by who had them but being inside of a purse only that teen new they existed. Again poor planning as if it was a smoking party there was nothing to put in the pipe or paper so question that was game plan.

Stupid is calling some one else stupid with out reviewing the police reports for the facts.

Cases finally done

10 were charged, ONE open alcohol energy drink, three not opened in refrig. one beer found unopened found in a car. Two of the less than 17 individuals, one was holding the open drink. unknown what happened to them not public record. One with unopened beer in car pleaded guilty. Two pleaded guilty for community service it is easier and cheaper than lawyer. The 5 that took it to court had the cases dropped. In the case of Bernth he was detained as he was leaving after being there only 5 min and never noticed the one open energy drink. Not quite the drunken party the article seems to represent. I think the eight that had alcohol available and did not participate should have received commendations not citations. The Fayette Citizen was provided with the arrest reports and the court papers and did did not think a follow up article was of interest. At the incident most were given a breath alcohol test and tested 0, no alcohol. Test was not mentioned in orig police report, took lawyer request and 3 months latter for the info to be included. Lesson’s do not allow search of home or cooperate with police. Common sense will not be used.

Why meet in an empty house in the first place?

Do you really think your posting on this blog clears your sons name? Doubtful. I would have let sleeping dogs lie.

The police did their job. They found 10 kids in an empty house with open containers around and a glass pipe.

You can put your head in the sand and think these kids are angels, but we all know, teens will be stupid some times. Please tell us why they couldn't say their goodbyes at the hotel? Because Mom and Dad were there and they didn't want to be caught drinking or smoking.

Yours was just lucky enough to have a father willing to spend the time and money to defend his stupid behavior.

Commendations? Really?

Are you trying to reply to me?

If so, good try.

Really, you think arresting these kids for being in their friends old house was the way to handle this?

What happened to a good old fashioned warning, call the parents, and have them pick up their kids?

I'll tell you what happened, it is all about MONEY. Getting these kids on a minor probation stint paying a probation officer to do nothing. Do some research next time

And yeah, I'm still looking for a true victim.

Spyglass & "Arrest"

Spy, article says they were NOT arrested---I suppose they got citations. Physical possession would be difficult to prove but it will be "constructive possession", simply meaning they had "access". Agree that it couldhave been handled differently---wonder who made the "robbery in progress" report? Just a concerned citizen or someonewho knew what was happening and knew that such a report would mean quick police presence. Note no reports of disturbance of any sort were called in. Not sure I understandthe Mom's reaction/response either, but hey, I wasn't there and you never quite know how much info has been left out of what we see here.

Good for that part..

I obviously overlooked that part about the arrests. I know how the POLICE are most of the time regarding instances like this.

I wasn't there either. :)

Good old days

Anyone else remember when crime only happened in the Wynnmeade Section of Peachtree City?

Lock them up and list their parents names.

I do not view this as a crime

If it is, list the victims.

I am all ears.

Sheila Huddleston and incumbent Lee Hearn have joined forces and that is not good for Fayette County. Here is what you can expect from the Hearn-dominated duo.

Lee Hearn's record is very clear:

1. As the county's Public Works Director, he was written up for poor performance on numerous occasions. He was severely reprimanded for misuse of a county credit card in order to thwart county procedure. He resigned in light of what many believed would be his inevitable termination.

2. Hearn has consistently supported deficit spending. To make matters worse, he has actually voted to increase expenditures when revenues were drifting down.

3. Hearn is one of the most ardent supporters on building the West Fayetteville Bypass. The road to nowhere has wasted tens of millions of our tax dollars. (It was Hearn, as Public Works Director, who said the East Fayetteville Bypass was our number one priority, but he kept pushing the West Fayetteville Bypass as an elected official.) It was later found out that Hearn's relatives own a large number of acres of undeveloped land near the West Fayetteville Bypass.

4. The Board was presented with a resolution to ask that Fayette County be removed from all regional and state mass transit plans. Lee Hearn along with Commissioners Frady and Horgan voted it down.

The choice is pretty clear: Vote for David Barlow and Randy Ognio

Yup-- Huddleston and Hearn are a team

Sheila is mounted on Hearn. All over the placed. Not placed NEXT to his signs but on top.

We all had absolutely no clue what Huddleston stood for. Now we know !

No thanks to Hearn, no thanks to Huddleston and no thanks to the Chamber Hacks.

The Hearn and Huddleston campaign team ...

Too funny!

Robert Morgan accusing someone else of bashing a candidate is certainly the pot calling the kettle black.

On that working relationship question, we have seen what Commissioner Lee Hearn is capable of with the West Fayetteville Bypass and deficit spending. I will never go along the that kind of behavior.

I think a better question would be why does Robert Morgan cause trouble in the blogs? Or maybe ask does anyone really believe what anonymous bloggers say?

Probably the best question would be do you believe a candidate does not really share political ideology with another candidate when they advertise together as a campaign team.

Better yet, do not waste your time on a poll, just take the safe route and vote for David Barlow and Randy Ognio. We know where David and Randy stand on the issues.

Defined benefit plan, Hutch

Are you talking about my saying Lee Hearn was going to take the defined benefit plan? If so, I admitted that I was wrong days ago. I did not know that section 19 within the plan directly prohibited county commissioners from drawing the benefits.

I was wrong and I am very happy I was wrong. Commissioner Hearn should not get anything for what he has done to the citizens.

I think a better question would be

Why does a sitting commissioner lie on these blogs? What say Steve?

Exit polling, Cal

Might be worth the effort to post somebody outside a couple of polling places to pose a couple of questions to those that have already voted:

1. Do you think Commissioner Brown's hyperactive bashing of Candidate Hearn and Candidate Huddleston influenced your vote? For their opponents? Or for Huddleston/Hearn?

2. Do you think that Commissioner Brown will have a good working relationship with Commissioner Hearn and Commissioner Huddleston should one or both be elected?

3. What is going through Commissioner Brown's mind while he is engaged in this type of negative and tasteless campaigning?
a. Nothing, his emotions override his intellect
b. He has visions of either Barlow or Ognio joining with McCarty to make him Commission Chair
c. He sees a secret conspiracy between Huddelston and Hearn and they are supported by actual developers, defeated politicians, all former mayors of PTC and Fayetteville.
d. All of the above

Or you could post it on the website and we could click on various answers.

Have to agree with Morgan on poll

There is no doubt that Steve Brown and Jim Richter are working together to bash anyone that stands in there way to gain control. It is two different post people. But let it be know forces of the Tea Party and radical groups are pushing for Barlow and Ogino because with them they gain full control of the board. Keep that in mind when you vote.

Underage drinking arrests rampant also on Eastside Metro

When I resided in Peachtree City from 1987-2001 I always tried to steer kids away from this dangerous activity. Many parents were supportive when I was Youth Commisioner(volunteer) ran for city council on a Pro Youth Platform and ultimately opened Jitterbuggers Teen Club as an alternative for kids who might have gotten in trouble drinking, drugs or illegal activities while parents not at home and as place for good local entertainment. After 2 years I closed it but only after having had 30,000 kid visits, winning metro Atlanta United Way awards and becoming one of the few successful teen centers in the State to showcase punk and rock bands from local middle and high schools.

Moving to the Eastside Metro Atlanta in 2002, many of same problems evident here but have escalated to drive by shootings at parties and one illegal party in 12/2010 brought about the death of one young male who was shot and whose killer has not been found.

Teens of PTC, this is one situation you do not want to be around. My kids all survived High School (all Starr's Mill Grads) and are now young adults with careers and children of their own. Do not fall into the trap of peer pressure, its cool to do it , we are the popular ones, etc as it is all lies and you will only bring a costly and painful lesson to your family if arrested!!

I do intend to have a Jitterbuggers Teen Club reunion in 2013 at a local hotel in PTC to coincide with my 2nd book release "Jitterbuggers Teen
Club: Communities and Teens in Action" Times dates and events to be released later. Write me at Jitterbug5001@bellsouth.net if you were a member or came to club in 1999-2001 for more info.!!
