We know Barlow’s positions, but not Huddleston’s

During a 2008 presidential debate, a voter called in with a question, “How do we know you’ll do what you say you will?”

One of the candidates replied, “Don’t believe anything we say; look at our record.”

Great advice, and we’d be smart to do the same with our county commission run off candidates.

Whether you agree with him or not, David Barlow’s record on key Fayette County issues is very clear. His public comments at Board of Commission meetings, letters to the editor, and remarks at citizen groups and County Republican Party meetings provide a record that clearly confirms his active opposition of:

-The wasteful West Fayetteville Bypass “Road to nowhere”

-$500k employee bonus that did not appear on a public agenda

-$100k for paving a rural dead-end that serves only two drive ways

-No-bid contracts on major outsourced deals

-Any plans for mass transit in Fayette County

-The recently defeated TSPLOST

During debates last month, candidate Sheila Huddleston laid verbal claim to some of these positions, but as the old lady in the burger commercial used to ask, “Where’s the beef?”While I haven’t been to every commission meeting and workshop, I’ve never seen her there once, and haven’t seen or heard her voice during the public opinion sessions on any critical issues.

I also haven’t seen her “put herself out there” with position papers in our county newspapers, nor seen her weigh in on their web versions.

What are Huddleston’s values, positions, and capabilities to analyze, comprehend, and decide public issues?

The only thing we really know about Sheila Huddleston is we don’t know much about her at all. I’m not keen on getting stuck with another Jack Smith or Robert Horgan. If you’ll remember, we didn’t know a whole lot about them before they were elected either.

David Barlow has been speaking out at the commission meetings and keeping us informed in the newspapers. We do know he’s a neighbor with a record of action on issues that are important to us. I’m supporting Barlow again in the all-important run off.

Huddleston simply was not telling the truth

Sheila was not telling the truth about not being aligned with Lee Hearn in various campaign statements, in articles in the Citizen, and on her website, and that simply does not speak well for what she will do in the future.

Huddleston wasn't truthful

OSIRIS & OTHERS

Do you now concede that Huddleston was ABSOLUTELY LYING about not being aligned with Lee Hearn?

Look at the picture on page A14 of the Citizen. Do you see that the ad was paid for by the Committees to Elect Lee Hearn and Sheila Huddleston?

LYING

Jim – Having your picture taken with someone that you agree with sometimes and disagree with sometimes and then claiming that you are not aligned with that person is not lying (see Newt Gingrich, Nancy Pelosi). Going on virtually every blog string and claiming that one of your fellow commissioners is only running so he can be eligible for the Defined Benefit Plan when you know (or certainly should know) that commissioners are not eligible is lying (or embarrassingly ignorant).

Are we clear now?

Watch for something in the Citizen this coming week.

Rumor has it; there will be a full-page display similar to the one Jack Smith ran in the Citizen in 2010 just before the citizens voted him out of office.

Sheila Huddleston, Lee Hearn, George Wingo, and Dan Langford had a photo taken on Thursday 8/9/12 in front of the County Administration building.

After you see the photo, you will undoubtedly suspect there just might be a connection between Huddleston and Hearn after all.

And, don't forget that Mayor Langford of Brooks strongly supported the TSPLOST.

What an interesting trio Huddleston, Hearn and Langford make!

Very Interesting

I find it very interesting that you were able to post on Sunday, 8/12, what The Citizen would run on Wednesday, 8/15. There seems to be a pretty cozy relationship between The Citizen and Barlow/Ognio campaigns that would rival the NY Times and Barack Obama.

Citizens be wary of a manipulative press.

If at first you don't succeed

I misinterpreted an earlier post as that of Ms. Huddleston and sent the following comment:

I have a question regarding the questions you published on your campaign website. The first is Question #2 re: Economic Development. First, you say we need to revise the Land Use Plan, then, two sentences later, you say "by following the Land Use Plan that was adopted in 1985, Fayette County will.........(good & prosperous things will happen)." It's a bit confusing to hear you say that the plan needs revision, then you go on to refer to the 1985 plan without mention of any revisions. Surely you must have some new ideas you'd like to pass along.

So that folks will know where you really stand, please give us some views as to how you would specifically revise the 1985 plan, and if there are portions you support, what about discussing those, as well, so we can more accurately evaluate the difference you expect to make?

You also referred to the Land Use Plan at Question 4, but "revised plan" or "1985 plan" is still unclear.

Finally, you refer to keeping taxes low at Question 5, but have not given us any specifics there, either. Do you have any comments on how any specific divisions of Fayette County government can operate more cost effectively?

I would like to see a response by Ms. Huddleston, and hope she is reading this LTE. The response I got earlier suggested that I submit the same questions to Mr. Barlow. Had Mr. Barlow and/or Mr. Ognio discussed their solutions to the same or similar questions, I would have.

You have got to be kidding!

Sheila Huddleston comes out and says, "I would like to resolve any misconceived perception that my campaign is associated with Mr. Hearn’s campaign. This is simply not the case and never has been."

This is wild. They attach all of their signs together all over town and then they take a photo shoot together at the County Admin Building (I watched personally) with George Wingo and TSPLOST supporter Mayor Dan Langford, BUT there is NO connection with their campaigns. We are not stupid!

Then Ms. Huddleston says, "Mr. Hearn and I respectfully have differences of opinions when it comes to Fayette County and what is best for the residents and communities." Do you honestly expect us to believe you would do joint sign campaigns and campaign photos with someone you DISAGREE with on what is in the best interest of Fayette County? Again, we are not stupid.

I did not start a rumor as Ms. Huddleston's signs are, in fact, attached to Lee Hearn's signs and the two candidates' solo signs appear on the same lots (no surprise there). I did not make up the photo shoot either as a couple of us stood at the window and watched. This ain't dirty politics; it's exposing the truth.

I do appreciate Sheila's endorsement of Randy Ognio because I do not agree with Lee Hearn either - that is I REALLY do not agree and voted that way on the record.

Dodging the relationship to Hearn at this point is kind of crazy.

So let me get this straight: you think Sheila(Huddleston) endorses Randy Ognio but also think she is in total alignment with Lee Hearn, something that has already proven to be simply your BS and factually untrue, yet again? Really?

Did you forget that Ognio is running against Hearn, yet you think Huddleston endorses Ognio but is in a tandem with Hearn? Are you going senile already at such a young age?

Seriously, just shut up. You can't even keep track of your own lies these days and you sure aren't helping Ognio or Barlow at this point. If Hearn defeats Ognio, it will be due 100% to your rambling BS. That would be a damn shame because Ognio is the better choice but you can't help yourself and you can't shut up, a perpetual problem with you. Now, you're stumbling all over yourself.

As far as Huddleston vs. Barlow.....keep knocking yourself out on that one. All it does is help Huddleston at this point.

... you have a choice.

You can vote for the two who fought for the citizens for years against the West Fayetteville Bypass, no bid contracts, secret votes on items not listed on an agenda, etc. (That would be David Barlow and Randy Ognio)

Or you can vote for the team of Sheila Huddleston and Lee Hearn. (you cannot miss the green Huddleston signs attached to the white Hearn signs)

I know you are pretty uptight about me, but I am not running. "Ya'll" can come after me all you want, but you should still vote for Barlow and Ognio.

The problem with you Mr. Brown is that you have anti-ideas and they are all about stopping something. Not that I agree that these things should continue.....but....

What are you for Mr. Brown? Besides getting your cronies elected, what is your agenda? To get re-elected? Are you using the commissioner's position to further your political career?

What's your positive plan for the county? What do you want to actually do? How are you going to make a difference? How do you plan to pull the government together toward what goals? If you're able, in twenty five words or less, give us your elevator pitch.

PTC Observer: As an observer myself of Commissioner Brown...

I've seen Commissioner Brown support several positive initiatives (that were opposed by the 3-member majority):
- Open bidding on expensive contracts that were approved with a single bid, some of which were approved to the tune of $100s of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
- Announcing openings for appointed board positions (such as the elections board), accepting citizen applications, and selecting the best candidate instead of a commissioner summarily appointing someone.
- Allowing taxpayer's to spend their earnings as they see fit instead of the government collecting 10 year's worth of increased sales taxes for projects that under-deliver
- Returning a portion of property taxes for a year instead of spending them on the West Fayetteville Bypass
- Working within a balanced budget- one where expenses do not exceed revenues
- Providing citizens more latitude to speak their mind during BOC meetings' Public Comment period

Which of these positive initiatives do you disagree with, PTC Observer?

Citizen Bob - Mr. Brown

None

However, we are not talking about the past Bob, we are talking about the future. What's his plan for this county, what positive action will he take to get the commission to work together? What does he want to accomplish?

It gets a little old reading the constant bashing of his political opponents, there is nothing positive in it. Nothing.

If Mr. Brown is elected Chairman, and at this moment this nearly a certainty, he will have to show a lot more leadership than he has shown on this forum. He will have to deliver an agenda. This is what leaders do.

By the way, I have a lot of respect for you Bob. In particular your attempt to get the defined benefits fiasco turned around was appreciated. Your involvement in attempting to get our criminal commissioner Horgan recalled was also the right and correct thing to do. You are a very good citizen Bob.

Now if you are with Mr. Brown, then sit down with him tell him to get his ego in control and his brain in gear. Perhaps he can prove me wrong and actually become a leader, but I have my considerable doubts.

What are you, you Mr. Brown, going to do to make this county commission work together throughout your term? How are you going to show leadership? What are the positive things you hope to accomplish on your watch? Let's stop hearing about conspiratorial theories, let's talk about you Mr. Brown and what you are going to do. I am about to change my vote based on your incessant drivel against Ms. Huddleston and Mr. Hearn, but not the way you think. Osiris, Fayette County Needs Some Answers

If Ms. Huddleston truly expects Fayette Voters to believe that she isn't Lee Hearn's running mate, she needs to tell Fayette voters why her campaign signs are attached to Lee Hearn's campaign signs.

We've all seen the signs!

Ms. Huddleston needs to explain why she participated in a photo shoot in front of the administrative complex fountain yesterday. Many people looked on as Ms. Huddleston, Mr. Hearn, and Brooks Mayor Dan Langford were photographed together.

If Ms. Huddleston stands behind the statements that appeared under your user name, Osiris, she will come back to explain her motives in participating in the photo shoot and having her campaign signs attached to Mr. Hearn's signs.

Osiris and Ms. Huddleston, the voters of Fayette County are not stupid!

Nice endorsement of your man. But hey look Huddleston just shut you down about that connection of her and Hearn. How about that? hot off the press it seems........ from her website

I would like to resolve any misconceived perception that my campaign is associated with Mr. Hearn’s campaign. This is simply not the case and never has been. In fact Mr. Hearn and I respectfully have differences of opinions when it comes to Fayette County and what is best for the residents and communities. These rumors have been started by my opponent’s supporters and current commissioner Steve Brown to intentionally draw attention away from their candidates and to sway my supporters. This is typical dirty politics that I have avoided in my campaign efforts. However, I can no longer sit still and allow them to spread inaccurate and false information. Fayette County residents deserve better from their elected officials. Please help me put a stop to this type of representation by voting Huddleston (Post-2) on the August 21st runoff election.

Thank you for your support and votes, Sheila Huddleston

Huddleston and Hearn aligning campaigns

Sheila is a very nice person and I wish her a wonderful future.

There are some points that have to be raised. First, where has Sheila been? David Barlow has been in the trenches week after week for years battling the Frady-Hearn-Horgan majority on the Board of Commissioners. Sheila has not sat through an entire meeting the since she qualified to run. After she wound up in the runoff, she missed workshop meeting the same week.

When Jack Smith and Mayor Ken Steele lied to us about not supporting mass transit in Fayette County, David Barlow worked tirelessly to get them out of office and the voters responded. Steele spoke out in favor of the TSPLOST and ridiculed me and people like David Barlow who fought the deal. The voters responded, again.

I asked David Barlow to tape our meetings and post them so people could see what is going on. He did it a no charge. I asked David Barlow to drive hundreds of miles all over metro Atlanta to video tape the TSPLOST debates and forums so the people in the metro area could see and hear for themselves what was going on. He gladly did this for everyone without complaint at his own personal expense.

Seriously, ask what has Sheila Huddleston done? She never voiced an opinion on anything until weeks AFTER qualified to run for the seat. You know the adage about your actions speaking louder than your words. Barlow is chock full of action and Huddleston has no actions and did not even utter a word until after she qualified to run.

Everybody is now talking about the disturbing alliance between Sheila Huddleston and incumbent Lee Hearn.

Lee Hearn's record is very clear: 1. As the county's Public Works Director, he was written up for poor performance on numerous occasions. He was severely reprimanded for misuse of a county credit card in order to thwart county procedure. He resigned in light of what many believed would be his inevitable termination.

2. Hearn has consistently supported deficit spending. To make matters worse, he has actually voted to increase expenditures when revenues were drifting down.

3. Hearn is one of the most ardent supporters on building the West Fayetteville Bypass. The road to nowhere has wasted tens of millions of our tax dollars. (It was Hearn, as Public Works Director, who said the East Fayetteville Bypass was our number one priority, but he kept pushing the West Fayetteville Bypass as an elected official.) It was later found out that Hearn's relatives own a large number of acres of undeveloped land near the West Fayetteville Bypass.

4. The Board was presented with a resolution to ask that Fayette County be removed from all regional and state mass transit plans. Lee Hearn along with Commissioners Frady and Horgan voted it down.

5. Hearn voted in favor of items that NEVER appeared on a public meeting agenda - keeping the public in the dark. One item was a tower lease that had five years remaining on the current contract. The new lease was not bid out and it was worth in the neighborhood of $1 million. Hearn voted in favor of pay raise for employees that did not appear on an agenda. That pay raises came at a time when the county was deficit spending and pulling funds from the reserves just to meet obligations.

6. For the last five years, the county has paid the administrative, equipment and other Fire Service costs from the general fund. This is in direct contradiction to the fire district agreements made with the Peachtree City and Fayetteville. In an act of desperation, Hearn made the comment that everything was funded from Fire Fund - which was true, after it was transferred from the general fund.

7. Hearn had a chance to de-fund the West Fayetteville Bypass and use the funds for county debt and tax relief, but he voted it down.

8. Hearn appointed one of his relatives to the Board of Elections to oversee his re-election bid. He lied to the public at a commission meeting, say the relative was "a friend of his from church."

Sheila Huddleston has made it very clear she is supporting the Hearn team and has aligned her campaign with the Hearn campaign. Is this what you want for the next four years?

We know what we had for the last four years did not work and was not in the best interest of the citizens. Repeating those mistakes for another four years would be ridiculous.

Mr. Commissioner. Please respond

Mr. Barlow claims that he tapes the meetings as a service to the working parents and senior citizens who can't make the meetings. See his website.

Now that I am "retired" I often take my video equipment to local government meetings and post clips from the issues of concern onto the Internet. I have done this as a service to the working Moms and Dads as well as our Senior Citizens who can’t make it to the meetings.

Will you please let us know the truth. Did you ask him to do this or was this his idea of charity. The world awaits your response.

Do you and he sit together in his AV room and edit the tapes to advance your agenda?

Mr. Commisioner, I truly like some of the things you do, but you go overboard on these blogs. Everything you say has to be researched because you don't always like to share the whole story. A leader, a father, a teacher, a commissioner, leads by example.

If I were you, I would stop posting here. Some of the people you are bashing, you will someday have to work with. Write letters to the editor, make your position known, but stop bashing others in an attempt to prove your position.

Boy that ought to cause a scandal.

Yes David Barlow did a huge service to our community and metro Atlanta for recording significant meetings and posting them. Yes I asked him to use his talents for the citizens and yes he agreed to come at no charge to the taxpayers.

The joint campaigning between Hearn and Huddleston is all we need to know.

So, Commissioner Brown, it was YOUR idea that he attend the Commission Meetings, huh? And why would you ask him to run all over the country ref Splost meetings?
Was this all part of some long-term plan to establish bonafides? Sure sounds like it on the surface. What I mostly don't like is more "I,I, Me,Me". Read Sheila Huddleston's Answers On Her Website

I urge everyone to go to Ms. Huddleston's website and read her answers to 5 questions that appear there. She seems to have a high regard for our Land Use Plan or not? In one sentence she wants to revise the Land Use Plan, and two sentences later, she thinks we should follow the Land Use Plan.

I met Ms. Huddleston tonight at the Commission Meeting. She said that she couldn't stay for the meeting and left after about 10 to 15 minutes.

She was very nice, polite, personable, and pretty.

Before meeting Ms. Huddleston, I had decided against voting for her based upon the answers she provided during the many forums I had attended and the answers she provided on her website.

After meeting Ms. Huddleston, I still have to say I can't vote for her.

Osiris, I Can't Vote For Ms. Huddleston Because

Her answers were nothing more than "political double talk."

I urge everyone to read Ms. Huddleston's answers to 5 questions on her website.

For example: Question #2 is, "What is your plan to promote economic development for Fayette County?" In Ms. Huddleston's answer to question #2, she wants to "revise" the Land Use Plan and then she says we should "follow" the Land Use Plan.

Which is it? What does she want? Does she want us to "revise" the Land Use Plan and then "follow" it?

Also in her answer to question #2, Ms. Huddleston talks about "the Fayette County Comprehensive Growth Management Plan that was adopted in 1991." It seems to me that a plan that was "adopted in 1991" needs to be "revised" in light of the fact that our economic climate has changed drastically. The population of Fayette County is dropping, student population is dropping; don't you think just those three factors would have some bearing on the economic development of Fayette County and that those three factors should be addressed instead of blindly saying follow the Fayette County Comprehensive Growth Management Plan that was adopted in 1991?

Ms. Huddleston repeatedly speaks about "keeping taxes low." However, she never gives any solutions as to how she proposes the County could do that with a dwindling population and bad economy.

Question #4 asks, "What is the highest priority transportation improvement project, either locally or in the region, that you feel is most critical to Fayette County and how should it be funded?

In her first sentence Ms. Huddleston says, "The East and West Fayetteville bypasses were misguided and mismanaged, and from what I can see, there were personal and financial agendas at play."

Is that supposed to be the answer to "What is the highest priority transportation improvement project?" If it is, she doesn't address how it "should be funded."

Then she goes on to talk about the Regional T-SPLOST. Finally, Ms. Huddleston ends her answer to question #4 by saying, "The citizens of Fayette County need to have a say in how they wish for their money to be spent in funding the transportation issues. In short, go back to the guidelines of the Land Use Plan."

Personally speaking, Ms. Huddleston will have to come up with some more solid answers before I will be able to vote for her as a representative of my interests.

So you are in favor of higher taxes and bypass

Lets see you are not voting for her because of her answers. So that must mean you want the bypass, transit issue, higher taxes, and a person who moved recently to the area and can't manage his own money to take care of your county business. Smart move

Your reply to Peter's post

Jim sit up on the edge of your chair because I am no where done with you and your attacks on Ms. Huddleston. You have just taken all kinds of information and twisted it up in you mind and formed some of the most outrageous misconstrued opinions of how and why she should not be in this race all based on your own nonsense. You are so convinced she is tied to former comissioners and that she is a nobody that just appeared to cause a runoff. Do you honestly think she toss her own $6000 in the ring to just waste it on a election she didn't think she could win? you say she is an outsider from Alabama but yet your boy is no from GA either and at least Huddleston has family there and been a resident of Fayette Co for over 20 years, you claim you don't know where she stands on issues but yet she has been public about that from day one and you know it. you tried to dig up dirt of the ethic commission filing blabing all kinds of informaiton that she did in fact explain and posted on her website. You tried to tie her to Peter and Hearn and Peter just flat out told you when he met her. Maybe just maybe you have this all wrong and its time for you to just go away with your inaccurate information. In other words if you can't get it right then just don't say anything. It makes you look bad in the eyes of those that are embarrassed to think someone like you exist within our community with your radical views.

Huddleston is clearly on Lee Hearn's side

For goodness sake, they have joint campaign signs now!

Sheila Huddlestion clearly knows where Lee Hearn stands on the West Fayetteville Bypass (supports it), keeping Fayette in the regional mass transit plans (supports it), approved no bid contracts to outside vendors, and deficit budgeting.

That team will pull our county wagon in the ditch.

Osiris, Tell Me Something

If Ms. Huddleston and Lee Hearn aren't joined at the hip, why in the world would her campaign signs be attached to his campaign signs?

You know, it just doesn't make pretty good sense for Ms. Huddleston to say that she opposes the West Bypass and then attach her campaign signs to campaign signs belonging to the "father" of the West Bypass.

PLEASE, explain it to me!

You really want your buddy Barlow huh

Huddleston has been day one aganist the ByPass and she is not tied to Hearn or anyone else for that matter. You draw a conclusion of a handfull of signs stuck together and presto they are an item. (again with the sign issue really). So is the real reason you want Barlow is because you can control him and he has agreed to make you the head ring leader of the new world order? I think maybe so or is it you don't know how to work with a woman who is smarter than you and may make you look worst than you really are? of course you already do a good job of that by yourself. Vote Huddleston she can and will make a difference.

Yes, I do want Barlow

David Barlow is a proven worker and there is NO doubt where he stands.

As far as the "woman who is smarter than you" comment, I live with that every day at home. I have nothing against very intelligent women and I sleep with one every night ;)

Sheila Huddleston has aligned her campaign with Lee Hearn's campaign. Robert Horgan and Herb Frady aligned with Lee Hearn and look where that got us.

David Barlow and Randy Ognio are the obvious choices.

Do your research

Have you tried to look at her Website? http://www.electsheilahuddleston.com
She is very clear on issues and where she stands and she has also posted the missing "who is behind me" disclosure statement and other information as well http://www.electsheilahuddleston.com/disclosure.html If you would actually read it and quit taking everything you read off the blogs for the truth you might be surprised to find out what some folks are thinking and saying isn’t really the actual facts. There are other reason for why things happen and if you read the CCRD she posted it explains the late file information. I have to say wow if this really all you can dig up you don't have much there. Also hummm person with a couple years living here vs someone that has lived here for 20 plus years all of a sudden has the counties best interest in hand let's don't forget those two bankruptcies and those poor folks he defaulted on. Guess if the county gets in serious trouble old Dave would know how to get them out of it Chapter 7.

Really she can’t put the dang signs in the hard GA clay you idiots that’s why they are stuck on top of the others. Nothing says ya can’t do that!!! and my sources say she is not tied to Hearn but did ask permission to do that. I guess Barlow and Ognio are not an item right, no they are campaigning together hum wow no wonder Steve Brown is pulling for them, Guess he wouldn’t want someone with a real brain and thought in their head to get elected. and

tell me I'm not reading this!

A person running for office...hasn't thought ahead about how to put up her signs? She never figured out she lived on red clay? She never thought about buying a mallott? I'm as small and put out signs for people on the roads! Wow! such a decision maker, plan ahead type of girl! Just what we need. And the logic of this is that she calls Lee Hearn and ask if she can piggy back on his signs? I'm impressed. Just the kind of decision making we need!

wow sign issues again

No fool she has put up signs period. That is not the issue, the issue is the Richter and his clan attacked her of stealing Barlow signs. That isn't the case. My answer was just to try and make that point. But I see that went way over your head. Lay off the sign crap it's an election. Hummm maybe Steve Brown's crew were nvolved in moving the signs. He isn't even in this election mess but sure has his point of view and continues to try and make a non-existant connection.

Osiris: You need to post Huddleston's info everywhere

Post the same message under as many different subjects as you can find.....that's what the foaming at the mouth crazies do.

Immediately after the election, I stated here that the crazies would go into full-out attack mode on Huddleston and they wasted no time doing exactly that. Facts be damned! Let's hang her, she's a witch!

Two more amigos?

Ms. Huddleston has faced fines for failure to disclose contributors to her election campaign, and I'm told the next fine coming up in the near future will be $1000. The only way voters have of knowing who is backing a candidate is by reviewing the list of contributors. That's the law, and the lists are supposed to be filed with the Georgia Government Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission. Knowing those who contributed to her campaign will tell us much about Ms. Huddleston when that information is finally disclosed. Hopefully, she won't wait until after the election. Maybe if enough of us voice our concern, the information will be forthcoming before August 21. To reveal or not to reveal...which is more costly?

You might have noticed Lee Hearn signs popping up all over the county with Huddleston signs attached piggyback to the top. This symbolizes, at least to me. that the two will vote together if both are elected...just as Commissioners Horgan, Hearn and Frady, "the three amigos" do. So it looks like those who want real transparency should vote for Mr. Ognio or Mr. Barlow. Mr. Hearn has not changed his platform from the Jack Smith days, to my knowledge. He always votes with Mr. Frady and Mr. Horgan, the other Smith alumnae. The image Mr. Hearn and Ms. Huddleston are projecting is that they see eye to eye on the issues. If that's the case, they need to make some kind of public statement to take the mystery out of the Huddleston candidacy.

I've never seen such a scorching exhibition of how politically close these two candidates have become as the "bonded signs." The only thing missing is Ms. Huddleston's confirmation that she supports the platform of Mr. Hearn. But with Mr. Hearn being credited by the opposition for supporting so many unpopular BOC decisions over his tenure, that doesn't appear to be very likely. Can't wait to see the comments on what the bonding of signs signifies to other voters!! Four of the "Jack Smith Five" are gone now. His house is almost cleaned.

In addition to identifying her campaign contributors, I would like to see Ms. Huddleston's published position on how she would fix current controversial specific issues facing Fayette County. How she would avoid more property tax increases would be a good starter subject. Another might be for her to discuss how she plans to get the money to re-roof the commissioners' meeting room which has needed repair for some time.

Ginga & Richter & Josh; Informed?

Wow, your admitted ignorance of the candidates and the issues is appalling. Evidently, you'd made up your minds before you did any “due diligence”. And, you call yourselves informed voters? I sure don't.

I hadn't met Sheila Huddleston until after she qualified to run for County Commission either. So, when I saw her at the Tyrone “Forum”, I approached her and said that I would like to talk with her about her candidacy and positions. We did. You could have done the same but you didn't.

So, based on my INFORMED opinion – I'll remind you that I already knew both of the other candidates in that race quite well, I decided to support her.

I made an informed choice, you didn't. Now, you're attempting to blow smoke at other voters to try to pretend that Sheila is as unknown to everyone as you say she is to you. I can assure you, now that I've gotten to know her that she is well known to many people.

Her positions have been on her website, and were expressed at the forums – if you had troubled to listen. And, to believe you now, you would have to admit that you didn't listen.

I think a new person is exactly what we need on our County Commission.

Your playing politician here. Cliches all over the place.

One should not have to call a candidate to get clear positions. That allows someone to tell each caller what they perceive the want to hear.

If that isn't true, then why not just put the details on a campaign website for all to read? I know I did.

As well, because her positions appealed to you does not mean they will appeal to others.

Remember, your positions cost you reelection.

I have read her website positions. They are generic statements that allow each reader to see what they want to read. An old campaign strategy used by many.

And the whopper, "I think a new person is exactly what we need on our County Commission."

You really tried to pull that one? They are both "new." There is no incumbant or former any office holder on the ballot.

If any approaches being a political veteran, it would be her. This is her second time as a candidate.

Ummmmm, no incumbent on the ballot, mr. mayor?

Methinks Lee Hearn is both an incumbent and on the ballot.

And he is very gracious as well, putting up those big bad signs and posts so Ms. Huddleston doesn't break a nail trying to muscle her sign stands into the ground.

But I agree with Peter, someone new is needed. Barlow and Ognio are my new best friends.

Why do you and the brown clown think that even though you are elected officials and not supposed to comment on referendums or elections while you are in office think that it is ok that you do so? Huh? Huh?

I understand the Democrat Brown doing it so he gets his stinky butt on the commission chairman's chair. But Haddix? Why is he allowed to talk?

Obviously you aren't clued-in to the fact that Don has managed to alienate everyone on PTC City council and most other FC commissions and councils besides Doug Sturbaum, who had the infinite wisdom to get the hell out. Man, stop arguing with the dude's stellar record.

You can learn a lot about the "success" of a guy who can win friends and influence people so well that he goes from being on the short end of 3-2 votes to now being the "1" on 4-1.

Just curious

Not picking a fight, BUT, politicians endorse candidates just about everywhere in this country- and referendums. Why do you think that we are not supposed to comment? Again, not picking a fight, I am just very curious about your line of thinking... Oh- and whether you agree with him or not, Brown is a dues paying Republican. I see him at almost all the meetings. Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Endorsing is one thing, Chicago style attacks are another

George, one only has to look elsewhere in these blogs to see the attacks that a sitting county commissioner has made (falsely it turns out) against Hearn and Huddleston. That's bad enough, but as I so cleverly pointed out yesterday and earlier in the week, only a combined Hearn/Huddleston victory sets up a scenario in January where Brown DOES NOT get voted in as county commission chair. Coincidence? I think not.

A simple endorsement is tasteful, it may or may not influence voters and it leaves the possibility of a cooperative working relationship on county commission should a candidate you did not endorse ultimately win the election.

Brown is a Republican the same way that FDR was a Democrat. FDR's first political campaign was for city council in NY and he saw the incumbent Democrat there as vulnerable in the primary because he never had same party opposition, so FDR switched parties and ran against the Dem and obviously stayed that way for his own personal ambitions. Check it out.

My take on this

I work in the private sector in a field that is highly competitive. You have to employ the brightest and hardest working people in order to be most successful. Our management team by choice are the first people in the office and the last to leave. We all are involved in volunteer organizations, trade organizations, and sometimes political organizations.

In addition to hiring the best, you must also provide people additional training. One class that came highly recommended by my boss at the time was from the Dale Carnegie series. As a young manager developing my leadership skills, this class opened my mind to allow me to become a better manager of people.

A true leader leads by example. He or she doesn't look for the spotlight
A true leader praises others for their success
A true leader praises their staff publicly and often, and corrects them privately.
A true leader talks to a person face to face, asks them questions and takes a personal interest in them .
A true leader listens to others ideas and reasoning
A true leader logically examines the situation and can correct the situation so that all parties save face.

We have many successful people in FC. We expect our politicians to be able to play well with others whether or not they are affiliated with same political party. When a sitting councilman selects one candidate over another and then talks ill of the other, they are telling their constituants that they are not strong enough leaders themselves.

A sitting commissioner can endorce whomever he pleases, but he is telling me that he thinks he is too weak of a leader when he resorts to put downs, lies, and half truths. A true leader will highlight the positive traits of his recommended fellow leader without putting the other person down.
