F’ville woman charged with murder of infant son

Mug shot of Kaisha Poulson.

A Fayetteville woman has been charged with the murder in March of her 2 month-old infant son. Autopsy results showed that the infant died of methamphetamine intoxication.

Twenty-five year-old Kaisha Poulson was charged with one count of felony murder, two counts of cruelty to children and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to officers.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said Poulson was charged while already in the Fayette County Jail after being arrested June 10 for possession of narcotics related to a June 2 suicide attempt.

Crawshaw said that on March 7 the Fayetteville Police Department received a 911 call of Poulson's 2 month-old infant son not breathing at 350 Bates Avenue. The death was investigated due to suspicion of the cause of death of the infant, Crawshaw said.

An autopsy was performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation along with toxicology tests. The final results came back on the toxicology as death by methamphetamine intoxication, Crawshaw said.

The investigation into the death of the infant revealed that Poulson took "methamphetamine while actively breastfeeding and taking care of her 2 month-old baby that resulted in the death of the baby," according to investigators. The murder charge and an additional charge of cruelty to children was brought against Poulson on Wednesday morning.

Poulson faces a second charge of cruelty to children and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in relation to an incident in which she had shown her 14 year-old sister how to use illegal drugs, Crawshaw said.

Investigators in the case said that on March 5 Poulson furnished her sister with Roxycodone and methamphetamine and gave her instructions on how to use and ingest the drugs.

Poulson was already in jail in connection with a June 2 suicide attempt at her home using a combination of the narcotics morphine and Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate.

Please stop your uninformed negative badgering and gossip. There is a family out there who is hurting beyond what most, if not all of you, can not even imagine. You should only speak if you can empathize. I'm going to clear up your misunderstandings. This beautiful boy was not born addicted. This mother loved and cared for her child. She held him, played with him, sang to him, fed him, loved him, and wanted him. She held down a job, used her own mother for child care, provided grandparents, uncle and aunt involvment in the baby's life. She did not use meth and then breast feed with the intent to kill her child. She was not an addict by choice. She made a big mistake (drugs) with the worst outcome. How many of you do gooders have drank wine, pumped and dumped your milk, only to breast feed later? How many of you leave your child at day care centers? How many of you have hit your child harder than you wanted? How many of you put your "mommy time" first before your child or at their expense? Driven a vehicle after drinking alcohol? Didn't strap the kids in because you were only going down the street? Your just lucky to not have had a horrendous result associated with your bad choice. Maybe next time your luck will run out. Meth is addicting after only one use. You can be clean and feel fine and then slip. How many of you have prescription antidepressents and feel fine so you stop taking them...only to relapse? Yes, an involuntary horrible crime did occur. But this is a real family, a decent loving family, with a problem. Is your family problem free? These people are educated, not living on welfare, contributing to the good of society, and good neighbors. Stop wasting your time insulting people who are hurt by this tragedy and find a way to help then heal, reserve judgement for things you have all the details on, and spend this time learning about your own mistakes and fixing them. None of us are free from the possibility of such a tragedy happening to us or our families. You are not as great as you may think you are. Far from perfect.

Hi Gym

I've been keeping busy in the garden 'till dark - you know, just hoeing around!

The young woman in the mug shot just seems to have a very yellow skin tone. It reminds me of family members that had liver issues. It is a shame that so many will throw their lives away on that junk.

how is it

That every story ends up with bloggers talking politics? The answer to you question related to states holding out hands for Fed money is so obvious that probably nobody felt an answer was needed, but here goes.

The funds came from us in the first place! The bloated federal government has been putting hands deeper and deeper into our pockets (assuming you are one of the 53 percent who actually pay fed income taxes) and then mandating that we teach our kids an approved way and set laws their way and hire who they say is fair in order to get our funds back. And when that money ran out, they just print more and say vote our way if you want some more.

Get a clue...throughout recorded history, no central government that became bigger than those they serve survive. And so it will be with the crooks (aka lawyers) that run Washington. Big business bad? Big government worse!

alanf33???

I can't figure to whom you direct this above comment---it seems to be in the wrong place, but I disagree with your analysis of why it is OK for states to take money from Washington because they sent it there!

That is hypocrisy because right now all that school, unemployment and road money coming from Washington to the states is BORROWED money that the federals will have to pay interest on which takes more taxes!
As to just printing money as if it were counterfeit, that doesn't happen, it is all borrowed from citizen bonds or from China or other places. That is why the debt is so large!

The truth is this: States don't want to pay their own way by state taxes! They want the Federal government to pay part of their expenditures so that you can complain about it. Also, the local state politicians don't get blamed for spending the money and defeated!

When do you want to contribute to Georgia bonds or debt to start more dams for water and more Interstates for traffic, or to improve our sad schools and pay our teachers more? NO? Then ask Washington for it!

Help babies

Any baby born addicted should be taken away from the mother. If they don't get clean within 6 months, the child goes to adoption. Enough babies born to addicts hiding behind their "disease"....

Taken away and do what with the baby? You want it? People are so selective with what they adopt that one would never be! Let me raise your taxes to pay for it's upkeep, OK?
And, will what you say stop babies from being born from those hiding behind their disease?

What does "clean" mean? Forever?

There is no cheap simple answer except remove the reason people take dope. Usually parents or family ignorance, or the government ignoring poverty.

by no means am i the smartest apple on the tree..but unfortunatly i know this "woman"...she has been "a pot head" and "dope head" for over 10 years..was kicked out of stars mill high school in 11th grade for snorting "coke" off the desk the first week of school...i wont go farhter than that but she should have had to take an iq test before having a baby b/c clearly she should not of been allowed to reproduce...saying this i hope they through the book at her and maybe someone can learn a lesson from this and save another person or childs life...as for the question from above about the "male"...anyone who knows her could tell you no one could tell her what to do and he was left helpless...thanks to our "great" laws, he couldnt of saved the baby in time even if he tried and had known.

There is a huge problem with meth in the whole state of Georgia, and Fayette County is not excluded. If many would start looking past the end of their noses they would start to see the problem right in Peachtree City.
Meth users are not like pot users, they are extremely discret. The commercials they have been playing on the radio and tv about what meth does are very true. Once this drug has a hold of someone it destroys everything about that person. It literally steals a persons soul.

Is it coming from an Albino idiot sitting on a porch in North Georgia, accompanied by someone originating the notes? Is there a dog or cock fight nearby?

That said, it's a tragic story, no matter the cause of death.

How do you feel about alcohol, tobacco, and guns?

Any one of these kill and maim more people than does any dope. Why be selective?

I get confused when the same people who want no government interference with laws, are for those items listed above!
Same is true about wanting no Washington money, however right now all localities are simply begging for billions for their budgets which they refuse to collect locally by the state or local government----federal OK to collect it, I suppose.
Then we can complain about their spending! Confounds the logic.

What I do, when I do it has to be the correct thing to do---because I do it! This said by many who do not wish others to call attention to hypocrisy!
So, of course alcohol, cigarettes, and all other dopes are of less consequence to humans as is Mary Jane and Prescription pills and their "generics" made by illegal stills!

What I do, and when I do it................

I suppose you two have your alcohol and tobacco and guns under control?
It is the others who apparently don't!
What about the hypocrisy with the federal billions----no comments?
Sonny said if he didn't get several hundred million from Washington by this fall he would probably quit!
When did he send it to Washington---did you two help send it?
We are 15 Trillion short I think, right now (6 from Reagan, 5 from George, 2 from recession!)
I think the voiding of the big corporate tax cut now may help out, however---sometime in President Obama's second term.

All that profit the banks are suddenly making, plus their payback with interest is however hurting my savings at those banks! 1% return for me and billions per quarter for them!
Has anyone of your pensions been cut yet? My savings for retirement has!

MIKE, etc.,

It doesn't matter to me. You are all easy.

From what I heard today by the TEA officials, the republican party might as well disband. They are for nothing but the past, can't handle the democrats, don't even understand that we have a recession and barely escaped a depression (Spain is about to capitulate and that will throw our bankers into a fit requiring more of our money) and Greece and Turkey aren't far behind.

They plan to dispose of the republicans first by taking 20% of their vote, then next take on the democrats with their harping to the ignorant that are left in both parties. They might even win 2-3 election in November.

I sure hope Handel beats that Red-Nek TEAr Deal. At least if Someone else loses (wonder who) we would have her and not him in GA!

We shore ain't got much to chose from here, have we.

Eyes rolling is a sign of unconsciousness, something I have suspected for sometime!
Why, if I was on a throne, would I want to come down? Because Moses did? That was because they couldn't see him beat out the burning bush. But Jesus climbed a Mount for his speech! Fed them with fishes and bread (unleavened).... or was that another time?

We don't seem to want to feed the poor anymore like that, however. They are just a pain in the butt! And most don't vote except for President Obama.

Spyglass - drugs

Yep, I seen where "Pot" has been declared harmless by some and the call to decriminalize it. But from what I read about the legalization crowd they also want to promote those drugs that are taken intravenously. I'm sorry, I just can't buy into any of it. But I will tell you this, I don't have the answer to the overall problem of drug addiction. But I do know that crap can seriously and forever damage the users brain. In this instance, it also cause the death of an infant because this crap metabolized in the mother's system and passed into her milk.

I need to get off my soap box before I get really upset.

Meth is a killer

If anyone has ever known any meth heads , Meth is one of the most dangerous drugs ever. It messes up your brain after one use and is the scourge of rural areas.
