Results of July 22 runoff election

FINAL UPDATE 9:22 p.m. — Marty Harbin will be the next state senator for the 16th District

With all four counties reporting final counts in the Georgia Senate District 16 Republican runoff, Tyrone resident and Fayetteville insurance broker Marty Harbin has convincingly beaten Fayetteville attorney David Studdard.

Harbin beat Studdard in Fayette, Spalding, Lamar and Pike counties 8,957 (59.6%) to 6,063 (40.3%).

With no Democrat in the November race, Harbin will take office in the new year. Incumbent Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone) decided not to run for reelection.

Here are the numbers by county:

Fayette — Harbin 5,127 and Studdard 3,017

Spalding — Harbin 2,241 and Studdard 1,965

Lamar — Harbin 742 and Studdard 422

Pike — Harbin 847 and Studdard 659.

Across the four counties, 15,020 voters cast ballots for the state Senate District 16 race.

FINAL UNOFFICIAL COUNT — Marty Harbin wins Fayette County overwhelmingly

In Fayette County final results, Fayetteville businessman Marty Harbin overwhelmed Fayetteville attorney David Studdard in the Republican nomination for the open state Senate District 16 seat.

With all 24 Fayette precincts comprising that district counted, here are the numbers:

Marty Harbin — 5,127 (63%)
David Studdard — 3,017 (37%)

In the race for the GOP nomination for Post 4 Board of Education, Diane Basham locked in her victory from the first batch of ballots.

With all 12 of the 12 precincts in the Post 4 voting district counted, Basham has won the GOP nomination.

The numbers:

Diane Basham — 1,419 (60%)
Jane Owens — 938 (40%)

In the GOP runoff for U.S. Senate, businessman David Perdue trounced Congressman Jack Kingston 6,530 votes to 4,358.

UPDATED 8:45 p.m. — Fayetteville businessman Marty Harbin is pulling away from Fayetteville attorney David Studdard in the Republican nomination for the open state Senate District 16 seat.

With only three Fayette precincts still out for that district (21 of 24), here are the numbers:

Marty Harbin — 4,700 (62.4%)
David Studdard — 2,832 (37.6%)

Only 24 Fayette precincts are contained within the 16th senatoral district.

In the race for the GOP nomination for Post 4 Board of Education, Diane Basham seems to have locked in her victory.

With nine of the 12 precincts in the Post 4 voting district already counted, Basham has 1,147 votes (60.3%) to Jane Owens with 754 (39.6%).

UPDATED 8:20 p.m. — With 11 precincts out of 36 reporting in the state Senate District 16 GOP runoff in Fayette, Marty Harbin has maintained his lead over David Studdard, 2,391 (60.5%) to 1,560 (39.5%).

In the Post 4 BoE GOP runoff, Diane Basham continues to lead with 757 votes (60%) over Jane Owens who has 501 votes (39.8%).

UPDATED 7:45 p.m. — In the second batch of returns tonight, Fayetteville businessman Marty Harbin maintains a big Fayette lead over Fayetteville attorney David Studdard 59.5% to 40.4% in the state Senate District 16 race.

In the Post 4 BoE race, Diane Basham leads Jane Owens 64.8% to 35.1%.

These votes represent a combination of all the in-person advance voting ballots plus all the mail-in absentee ballots in Fayette County. We have no numbers yet from Spalding, Pike and Lamar counties, the rest of District 16. Here are the numbers:

Marty Harbin — 1,481

David Studdard — 1,007

Diane Basham — 497

Jane Owens — 269

EARLIER TONIGHT —

In the first returns of the night in the Republican Primary runoff, Fayetteville businessman Marty Harbin has taken a 60-to-40 percent lead over Fayetteville attorney David Studdard in the Georgia Senate District 16 race.

For the Fayette County Board of Education Post 4 Republican nomination, Diane Basham has a 65-to-35 percent lead over Jane Owens.

The vote tally represents the total count of all advance in-person voters who cast ballots before Election Day.

Here are the numbers:

Harbin — 1,409
Studdard — 948

Basham — 466
Owens — 254

In the District 16 Senate race, Fayette is the largest part of the four-county area that also includes all or parts of Spalding, Pike and Lamar counties. Returns from those other three counties are not yet available.
