Marine Corps League adds 47th member

The Marine Corps League Detachment # 1325 is continuing to grow. The newest member, Terry Flott, was sworn in by Commandant George Dienhart at the July Meeting. Flott, who resides in Coweta County, served on active duty for seven years and, along with other duty stations, served in Yuma, AZ with Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214). He is the owner of Midway Collision in Fayetteville. Flott became the 47th active member of the young detachment.

The Clyde Thomason Detachment #1325, named in honor of an Atlanta Marine who received the Medal of Honor and perished in World War II, is based out of Fayette and Coweta counties and serves other surrounding areas. Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps and banding together with those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged.

The MCL seeks to effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy and is involved in voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines, Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen and former Marines and FMF Corpsmen (and to their widows and orphans) and in perpetuating the history of the United States Marine Corps  by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.

The League also welcomes anyone who is a fan of the Marine Corps and wishes to associate with the Marine Corps League.

The Marine Corps League has an array of ongoing programs designed to help Marines and their communities, including: Marines Helping Marines — Wounded Marines Program; Young Marines of the Marine Corps League;  U.S. Marines Youth Physical Fitness Program; Scholarship Programs; Legislative Programs; Veterans Service Officer Program; Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program (VAVS); Toys-For-Tots; and the Marine-4-Life/Injured Marine Support Program.

The League also participates in various patriotic functions, locally and at a national level. Such events include the National Memorial Day Parade and the National 4th of July Parade in Washington.

Marines and FMF Naval Corpsmen, who have been honorably discharged, are eligible for full membership. Interested persons may visit www.MCL1325.net  for additional information or may simply attend the meetings on the first Wednesday of each month. The detachment meets in the Fellowship Hall of Christ the King Church on Highway 34 between Newnan and Peachtree City. The next meeting is August 4 at 7:30 p.m.
