PTC says ‘yes’ to new traffic light on Hwy. 54W

If it meets state approval, a new “continuous flow” traffic light intersection will serve a new shopping center on Ga. Highway 54 West and Line Creek Drive.

On a 4-1 vote, the Peachtree City Council decided to apply for approval from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The intersection would allow the problematic westbound traffic to flow through continuously without stopping. To accomplish this feat, traffic on the northern part of the intersection will be restricted to a right-in, right-out ... and traffic turning left out of The Overlook shopping center to go west will queue into a merge line that will be constructed in the median.

Trinity Development spokesperson Jim Lowe said the company will pay for the intersection work including the traffic light at a cost of about $350,000. The process is expected to take about six months, Lowe told council.

The new intersection was recommended by the city’s traffic consulting engineer Pond and Company based on a review of the entire 54W corridor. The city council spent $70,000 on this specific traffic study, and it was unveiled for the first time Monday night at a workshop meeting.

Councilman Eric Imker cast the lone vote against the change, insisting that the new light would harm traffic on the highway, since eastbound traffic will still have to stop at the intersection to allow traffic out of the shopping center.

“Nobody can convince me it won’t slow traffic down one way or the other,” Imker said. “... I just don’t agree with it.”

The Georgia Department of Transportation must approve the new signal and intersection changes since they would take place on the state-operated highway system.

The concept of a traffic light at Line Creek Drive has been somewhat controversial due to the existing glut of traffic on the highway during commuting times. In fact, the DOT denied a traffic light request a number of years ago because the intersection was deemed too close to existing traffic lights at Planterra Way and MacDuff Parkway.

The same traffic study that looked at the Hwy. 54 West corridor has also recommended there not be a link from The Overlook to Planterra Way as Trinity Development had recently pursued. Instead, the study recommended building an access road westward from The Overlook to reach the MacDuff Crossing shopping center for interparcel access.

Such a road would have to go over land currently owned by the Southern Conservation Trust as part of the Line Creek Nature Area.

More traffic lights?

All that money Fayette County spent on the West Fayetteville Bypass (aka road to nowhere) when all along what was REALLY needed was a PTC bypass.

New 54W Traffic Light

Little seems to be said about the effect this light will have on eastbound traffic. This is just another of an unbelievable number of chokepoints just inside the city on our west side. Once Macduff is extended to 74, eastbound traffic will simply make a left on to Macduff making it an alternate state route 54. Thousands of cars daily will be using Macduff as a shortcut to avoid fighting their way through a crazy number of traffic lights just to go left on 74. Good luck to Centenniel and all other residents who will be trying to golf cart across Macduff to get to Walmart or wherever. Macduff will likely need to be widened to a 4 lane complete with more traffic lights to handle the Coweta traffic wanting to left on 74. If I'm viewing this wrong, I would appreciate knowing. At this point, things look rather grim for west side neighborhoods north of 54.

The traffic light is not being put there to help traffic

The traffic light is being put there to help the developer market property to businesses that will not locate on a corner unless there is what they call full traffic movement, which means a median cut, a traffic light and turning lanes. Many businesses will reject a site without even looking at it if it doesn't meet that requirement. Same thing with banks that finance property purchases.

That moving traffic stuff is not going to happen and the slower the traffic, the happier the businesses are - much more likely to stop for a Big Gulp if you are in 15mph traffic.

Dar is correct, the light was going to happen anyway, past councils who are not qualified to think past their own reelection are a big part of the problem. We would have been better off to have approved the light years ago, have a higher quality development and more property and sales taxes received earlier. Yes Mr. Haddix that Belk's is over there in Coweta County.

Reality

Reality has finally set in. I advocated a light at this location five or six years ago when a developer was trying to get a light for a major project. Am I an advocate for the light, do I like the idea, NO but when are we going to face the reality of life.

Some say Cyndi Plunkett lost an election over this light. When I looked at purchasing the property (at one time)mayor and council (not the current mayor and council) told me that I would never ever never get a light at this location. So I walked away from the deal.

My point is simple, this city is notorious for not seeing things for what they are. We are always behind the curve for this simple reason that no-one wants to face reality. At one time this location was going to have a beautiful retail center and much more. It did not happen because the city would not give the developer a light. Even the planning commission tried to convince council (not the current council) that the city will end up with a fast food restaurant and a gas station...people laughed...that will never happen. What are we getting...a gas station.

From a business perspective we have lost 5 or 6 years of income from property taxes, and retail sales tax all because we were never going to have a red-light. What are we getting...a red-light.

We need people who have the ability to view things in a linear progression. People who can see 5 and 10 years down the road. We has a city have never been on the cutting edge but we are constantly behind the curve. It is simply beyond my understanding.

In closing, there are other situations that are just around the corner that will effect the city's perception and will cause an additional loss of income for the city simply because we did not step up and seize the opportunity (I will be able to bring this issue to the forefront in several months).

If your not moving forward your going backward. Am I the only one who can see where we are headed?

Czar Dar's reality

Wow. Really?

One of the few planned cities in this country?

The only city with a path system to supplement the road system?

A city that has a village concept?

A city that has bermed subdivisions/residential areas to offer privacy from traffic?

A city that has one traffic light the more than 6 mile length of it's main thoroughfare, which is a beautiful tree lined, landscaped median divided parkway that offers residents the singular pleasure of a parade of golf carts on the 4th of July?

A city that has it's industrial businesses along a beautiful golf course, reservoir, airport and separate from commercial and residential neighborhoods?

A city that historically has leaders who honor the concept of planned growth?

A city that has more recreation of any type, per capita, than any city in this state, much less other states.

A city that has an amphitheater nestled in the woods that is accessible using only a golf cart.

A city that offers the tranquility of greenbelts and nature preserves and passive parks.

A city that has 2 additional golf courses intertwined into the actual plan of the city which offer back yard views unmatched elsewhere.

A city that has underground utilities which offer unobstructed views wherever you look and has reduced power outages to just about zilch.

Just a small sample of how this city has moved "forward".

Czar Dar sees more traffic lights and more retail as reality. Yes, really.

I don't buy it and will not accept this "linear progression" view which is so foreign to the concept of this unique and very livable city.

PTC Reality

Yes, PTC was a planned community but the plan was fatally flawed because it left no room for a downturned economy or retail expansion. Once the tax income began to evaporate becuase industrial tenants started vacating (due in large part to lousy freeway access and local congestion), the City needed income from retail businesses outside the 'planned' areas. That only invited outsiders and more traffic congestion. Throw in a downturned economy, lower property taxes and the concept is forced to more retail expansion. Problem is that retail expansion was placed along the Hwy 54 corridor which is the primary east/west access from Coweta to Henry County. Trying to navigate through the 54/74 intersection on a Saturday afternoon or a weekday afternoon is horrible. Amazing to see PTC police cars lying in wait for some poor dude just struggling to get through that choke point only to get a meet-and-greet traffic citation from the local friendly law enforcement because they couldn't make it all the way through the intersection before the light changed. Ah, but there is another revenue source.

The golf cart paths are 20 and 30 years old...the village concept is great! However, I have no idea what you are talking about when it comes underground utilities...just look at our main intersection (Hwy 74 & Hwy 54). There are more wires than a Andy Griffith show from the 60's and this is our center-point of the city. All these wires could have and should have been buried when Hwy 54 was widened.

Recreation, I lived in three different cities in Colorado that are light years ahead of our recreation.

The golf courses are privately owned...they are not city property.

I'm not asking for more retail...I'm asking for better retail. Instead now you are getting a gas station, a fast food restaurant, and whatever goes on the hill. You are going to get it either way, all I am saying is make the better choice.

54/74..did GADOT have say in this? Did the feds have a say in the plan? Do pigs fly? Is it really a perfect world you live in? Care to applaud the 98-99% of the city, mostly residential, that has underground utilities? You didn't bring up those above ground utilities on Hippocket. Guess you can live with that, since it's not within your myopic view of nirvana. You can drive around it and pretend it doesn't exist.

Colorado has a new form of recreation. If that is what appeals to you, maybe a second home there would fulfill that recreational pursuit. You think we have a lack of vision here??

The golf course view..."view" is from private property. The increased value of those homes is thanks to the courses, no matter who owns the courses.

Better retail? It's coming. Have you seen the tenants for the Overlook? You know, 15 years ago, The Avenue was the "better retail" mantra. How is this more, better retail helping The Avenue? They have served this city wonderfully since day one. Where is your concern for closing or partly closing their entrance on 54? Is anyone looking out for their best interests or are we going to have empty storefronts there in a few years and The Avenue name comes off the sign? Or, are you bored with them, too?

You must believe that every developer that comes to our city has the be-all, end-all solution to every non-existent problem there is. I have been to enough meetings now to know they are right up there with the proverbial used-car salesmen when it comes to promises made and not kept. We all want a better choice. Do folks who live in 5 million dollar homes want better choices and can you or I afford their choices? Guess not, as there are none living here and here we both are.

Don't spend the second half of your life wailing against what you don't have yet or can't have. Learn to appreciate what you do have and enjoy yourself. Some of us have already had to accept that, some have had to do it their whole lives. You have business success here, thank you for being here. Just realize you cannot continually make those who cannot or have not been able to accomplish or achieve as much as you have bear the burden of the increased costs and vision that you are able to conjure up for yourself. I just love the attitude, if you can't afford it, just move away. Really? And who is going to move into the existing 9237 homes that are now valued below $300,000? Or, the 2883 that are valued below $150,000? One third of the existing city for the last figure. I hate this expression, but be careful what you wish for.

I think DM has a plan for you on the recreation front. You just might like it, however, I think not. And since no one has brought it up, how do we know the full effect of Pinewood on this city? They are barely starting out. Will those transfers need the wants that you think we all need? This entertainment industry is like nothing this state has ever experienced before. I bet they just might enjoy the peace and quiet and simple beauty of a Peachtree City, especially coming from that mess called Hollywood. Commuting to Atlanta for entertainment, sports, other amenities from PTC should be a walk in the park after dealing with the commuter nightmare out there.

My point

is that you talk of amenities that have been here for decades. What is new? My approach is that we as a city need to have a vision. My question is; if we are so great why are people and companies more interested in locating 45 minutes and even an hour north of Atlanta and not in PTC? There has to be a reason. We even have the best school system in the state. We have a planned community and golf cart paths. PTC is much closer to an International airport. So there has to be a reason. My question is why are we not attracting people who work in Atlanta or major companies that want to relocate that choose the north-side over PTC. There has to be a reason.

I am not an elitist. As the saying goes "a high tide raises all boats". My position is simple; I want to make a $230,000 home become a $250,000 home at little or no cost to the homeowner. This doesn't happen by being okay with the way things are.

My point about recreation in Colorado is simply a model to see what has value, works for a community, and what that does to home-values. One has to be satisfied and happy at where they are in life but trying to improve and get better everyday is not a reflection of not being content.

Read my blogs and articles I'm trying to save the tax-payer(s) of this community $400,000 a year as it pertains to the "aquatic center". We, the tax-payers of this city, have lost over 10 million dollars at the "Kedron Aquatic Center". I'm on your side. I'm not saying get rid of Kedron, I'm saying let's make it great. Lets make it an asset to the community and not a burden.

To be clear, I want all citizens of Peachtree City to have it even better than we do now. I want to make PTC a place where everyone wants to live because it is better than any other place to live and/or raise a family in Georgia. Let's truly make Peachtree City the bubble...the place that everyone wants to live. All we need is vision...and a little common sense wouldn't hurt either. We are so scared to make a wrong decision (the light on Hwy 54 is just one example)that we make no decision at all. The end result is much worse.

It's time to rock-n-roll and make Peachtree City great for all of it's citizens! I think you and I would agree on that point.

MLC - The People's City

I agree with all the examples you cite as examples of PTC being a planned community. However these were planned decades ago by visionary leaders who were able to rally people to their plans. The examples you cite are among the reasons I and many others have chosen to raise our families here.

However, to where I think Dar is going, these examples are in the past. What is the vision for the future? More than to say no? Each time the city has been pushed in court they have folded like a cheap suit. With a strong vision and plan for say 20 years and further in the future, we can choose the direction for our city and the height of the slope of our future progress.

When I say vision, I mean an open and honest discussion among citizens facilitated by our leaders that results in a consensus. No one is saying get rid of anything you cite. However:

The West Village is a disaster due to one off decisions and reactions. I stated somewhere else I think this light is a bad idea without addressing other issues. When the Mac Duff road was originally approved, 54 had just been widened and traffic flowed. Now out of control growth by our friends in Coweta have caused a series of reactions and hand wringing. The solution of the day is the finish MacDuff. To facilitate this, the council approved even MORE houses for Weiland. Is more density in the plan? if there were one? Unfortunately without any barriers to adding more and more cars to Coweta traffic, it will not stop until Mac Duff and 54 are double decked. This may be the Jersey boy in me coming out but I would place a safety checkpoint at the Line Creek bridge EB from 0500 -1000 M-F. That would get Coweta's attention. A boy can dream.

But then, the desire for retail on a four lane state highway was obvious almost a decade ago. When there was dirt was the time to plan. Now we have have full strips, a half full complex and a big ole pile of dirt that one day will be a QT. It is too late to ask but what did we need in the West Village for retail. I suspect two Mexican restaurants on opposite sides of 54 within a half mile of each other would not have made the list. Its a shame standing up to developers trumped getting the best options for tax payers.

But here we are. Here are some of the next questions as I see it

What are the rules for gentrification? Wynnmeade comes to mind but all of the older neighborhoods. Are we going to allow the Mc Mansions that have sprouted in older neighborhoods in other parts of Atlanta. If not then what?

What are our standards for our roads, medians and such. Pretty costs money. What is the right balance point bewteen cost and service?

Speaking of money. Some see section 8 voucher recipients hiding behind every tree. The best way to make PTC undesirable to this demographic is to price them out since Section 8 vouchers are price limited. You do this by increasing services and making housing more attractive. In other examples I have seen of this, taxes go up. Not advocating but here it is. However, many citizens are on fixed income, and would also get swept up in this. How do you balance? How do you get the right population growth for PTC?

I could go on. These are tough questions that bring passionate response where many different views will be right for them not necessarily PTC. Do we have leaders willing to really sort this out even if it means they may lose an election? Do we have leaders able to bring different views to the table to find common ground? Do we as residents have the ability to embrace the good of the city over their own views?

But this brings me to a bigger question. Are we a "rural town" or a bed room ccoomunity ina suburb of a major city. People of good will can answer either way which is part of the problem. We really do not agree what we are or who we are. Until we do this, we are in trouble.

on who we are and what we are is all relative. What I see and you see might be the same, but clearly what I see and Czar Dar see are not. He will not change my mind, and I definitely will not change his. What I am doing is bringing out what is good here, he only sees what is missing here. I do not see where anything that I see is good here is now obsolete or will be in the next 10-20 years. More retail, on the other hand, will be the proverbial dime a dozen for the next 10-20 years. Overbuilt retail leads to just as much blight (my opinion, even more) as the unwanted Section 8. Our code enforcement is the constant to keep both in check as much as possible. We are extremely fortunate to benefit from their efforts. And from the adoption of the ordinances that maintain many standards.

Here is a small list of stats that are available now (I know, yawn):

There are 11574 homes in the PTC tax district.

The average home value is $249112.00
The median home value is $223000.00

I, like you, but unfortunately unlike Czar Dar and a few other elitists here, never hear discussions or solutions for the lower end of the scale of our existing neighborhoods. I only hear build more, newer and more expensive than before. Kind of like if we don't acknowledge them, they don't exist.

Czar Dar talks about those moving from the north and midwest. Well, yes, that is not any profound statement. Big deal. So what else is new. Ever since the advent of air conditioning, that has been the case. Does that mean all so called upscale cities and counties need mega sports complexes the likes of LakePoint www.lakepointsports.com?

Another issue that Czar Dar never talks about is jobs, jobs, jobs. Where is the workforce coming from to support the multitude of retail and recreation facilities that he and others feel they need and are so important? Are they going to buy $300,000. homes? Minimum wage or slightly higher jobs to wait on the over $300,000. crowd? Gonna bus them in from Coweta, Clayton and Fulton?

And speaking of jobs, where are the jobs to pay the mortgages on the $300,000. and up over 1100 homes coming in off MacDuff? The one real estate saleswoman who has spoken up has said she has a wait list. I think I know where they are coming from and you nor I nor Czar Dar will not like it for one hot minute when we see where they are going to come from. Has everyone forgotten we are still in a stinking down economy and the jobs that are touted coming into this state are not the high salaried forever jobs we all grew up with up north.

So, as I see it and many of those who are starting out in the careeer world and those who are finishing up their work careers see it, there is no consensus on all of this. My general question on MacDuff is why the heck do new subdivisions have to be labeled as over 55 or young families or any other label? How about building a variety of homes, large and small, that will bring in a mix of age groups who can live and grow old together and benefit from their life experiences together? I have neighbors who are just retired, elderly, have small children, have older children, have no children, are married, are not married and are aware of the diversity of our city. I realize from listening to many who speak and write on here and in meetings and at events, that is not the case and I think it creates a myopic view of the future. This city has a lot more diversity than so many think. That can mean many things, not all of it negative.

We've allowed developers to appeal to the elitism in our culture - rather than building 'communities that all can be proud of.

DM - Doesn't your definition of community matter?

I appreciate your sentiment and had the opportunity to work on projects like this first for the Atlanta Housing Authority and then consulting with the Mobile Housing Board. In both those organizations they were dealing with large(r) areas to call a community and within which to build options for all segments of people. We built really nice town homes, apartments and even some stand alone houses.

However, a lot of this building was in areas being redeveloped not necessarily in the most optimal places like say Buckhead. In Atlanta, you can see the redevelopment across from the Braves stadium. That was a partnership between AHA and John Weiland. There are new housing options going up by the Capitol building which are AHA as well as the housing by Centennial Olympic park.

In our case, there are lower priced homes in the area if you include Sharpsburg, Clayton (pan handle area) and Coweta. My first home was at Rivers Edge in Clayton County. I dined and shopped in Fayetteville, my wife taught at McIntosh. As far I was concerned I was part of the gretaer Fayette community even those my house was across some line on a map.

Unfortunately, many want icommunities where the house they want is exactly in the place they want, with all the amenities, of course low taxes! And of course their options should not be limited by cost or any other market concern. But even then, in PTC we have Wynnmeade. It is not new housing but does have houses <$150 on the cart paths but it is not likely to be many people's perfect house but rather a place to start.

I beleive we need to refocus our thoughts to include the greater Fayette community and build and grow together. Some may need to trade off and find some of their desires and work as a community to bring the amenities. This is what we did in Mobile. MHB offered WEALTH classes to help people not only want things but how to get them. We held escrows for our residents where they contriuted money to a down payment fund with match comunity funds. These people graduated from the housing projects to their first home.

I know this is not where you are going and I DO NOT advocate a Fayette housing authority. I think our communities of faith can help those who want to build a better community wherever that is on a map.

MLC, great post. I think you have covered just about all the

things that are on or should be on our minds. Many late comers moved here because they liked what we had and now want to change it--As for Dar it seems he is expanding from his usual hubris re: Kedron Complex and is now encompassing all of PTC, which would be fine except he seems to feel he is the only one with answers-even when no one has asked the questions. I think maybe someone is getting ready to run for office.

You say and I quote "even when no one has asked the questions". I can only assumed you have been misinformed, there are a lot of people asking the question, including our city government.

The issue is that government knows what needs to be done but have already assumed unrealistic consequences by making the hard decisions. Council gets it (I think) but are hesitate because they always assume the worst results. It's like saying we can't go to the beach because we will get sunburned...but not if you wear sunscreen. Sometimes it is that simple.

I'm not being negative toward council they are simply like most governments. Instead of doing what they know needs to be done it is somehow safer to do nothing at all.

I will give you an example...there was a group of investors who wanted to benefit the city and donate an ice rink to the city and pay to operate it...this formula basically took almost all of the tax-payers liability out of the equation. The continued pushback was "what if it doesn't work, then we are stuck with a 37,000 square foot building with no columns and a concrete floor. Really, then you own a building you could put an indoor soccer rink, more basketball courts, a venue for graduations, the list goes own. The logic is like giving someone a $250,00 sports car and the response is what if I get a flat tire?

We need to be on the cutting edge, otherwise we will just wither up and die.

If PTC (the citizens) didn't want a red-light on Hwy 54 or a gas station, or additional retail space than I would ask the simple question why did the city not just buy the land from the bank for 2.2 million. If my math is correct it would have cost each household about $1.00 per month to make that deal happen. It's a different approach but it is out of the box thinking that would have solved the problem of a light and a gas station. Just say'n

And another lost chance was to sell excess sewer capacity to Senoia when they asked for it, but city council said no because they didn't want residential development on our border - well look what happened.

Same thing for Belks and that center on 54 west.

Going way back - same thing for turning down The Avenue which could have been on a much larger and level parcel instead of Lexington Circle.

And way back - Sun City Peachtree could have been out near the hospital, but no we wouldn't even let them come to a meeting - that was the county.

I think Dar's point is not to beat the same dead horse as it is very certainly dead, but to learn from our mistakes. So often government gets in the way of private enterprise - which almost always knows better and then they act surprised when private enterprise comes back with a second or third choice that is far worse than choice #1.

Then I read some guy on Planning Commission wants to relocate the bowling alley knowing (or should be knowing) the applicant already owns the land and it is properly zoned for a bowling alley. Just sit down, shut up and get out of the way.

Some guy

is the son of a former PTC mayor and is a great rep. on the commission. He can state his wish, he did not belabor the point and he spoke his mind. He knows the zoning is there. Which, by the way, will be the number one complaint of everyone when/if this gets built there. Why no cart access. Then everyone will be on here whining about poor planning and why did they allow this to be built there when all that car traffic could have been cart traffic off road, blah, blah, blah. Which begs the question again, when are carts going to be allowed to cross 74 at Crosstown/TDK?

tune if McIntosh Trail/Kelly Dr. over the dam is closed next year. I say, get plan B going now for those who live south and east of the dam.

Complainers and whiners are the real problem

If Planning Commission and City Council just did their job instead of reacting to 3 or 4 vocal people - things would be better. For years Bob somebody and Phyliss from Smokerise drove everybody crazy with their whining over trees and greenbelts and drainage and many hours of city time were wasted responding to them.

Just ignore these people and follow the land use plan and the zoning that is in place and never grant variances and all will be well. If the whiners want to speak, let them speak - 2 minutes before every meeting then sit down and shut up and let the elected or appointed adults do their job. Or they can run for office and see how many people agree with them.

Is more time warranted?

It may be the best solution. I don't know the answer, but ...

Will shoppers at Walmart and Home Depot start using the access road more to make a left? What about considerations to those Travelling at rush hour who suddenly have to stop at a light? Will there be more rear end collisions? Will we have more knuckleheads clogging intersections?

A six month study and only one week for a council approval? I just wonder if this is a knee jerk approval from council to show they are doing something? Would two more weeks of questions, thought, and considerations not be warranted?

Yes we need some time, thought and planning

While it is a shame council person Plunkett did not think of blaming her support of a light on a consultant with green T, we need a little bit of time to blast through the 428 page turner of a report. Things to consider, in the span of a quarter mile we will have Walmart light, La Hacienda curb cut, Line Creek Liquor down hill curb cut, now another light, and discount tire somewhere in there. My ten year old can tell you we need to think this one out. Some thoughts to consider:

1) We need to make the alley between Walmart and Mac Duff reasonably usable which means taking down the spedbumps the size of Stone Mountain and finding somewhere for Discount Tires to put cars. I agree with the feeder road system but they can not be more painful than the alternative.

2) Eliminate ALL curb cuts on 54 not at a light. 54 W is supposed to be a 45 mile state highway. The cars coming to a dead stop to go down hill at Line Creek Liquor are mind numbing especially considering there is a run off line 50 feet away to discount tire and after the at grade turn to HAcienda which also has no run off and is fairly new.

3) The light at Mac Duff needs to be figured out. Since they retimed it, Mac Duff is backing up down the hill at all times of day while those at the front of the line can watch our friends from Coweta travel at the speed of light east bound. I have been assured it is a sensor problem. Well school starts in two weeks and we have a dozen school buses along Mac Duff at 0700. If it is not fixed I have claimed the tourch and pitch fork concession for the next few council meetings. Some of us cant take the golf cart in the am.

4) I have been assured that the study says there will be only 6,000 cars a day on two lane Mac Duff once extended. What is the plan to get the PTC residents out of their neighborhoods while we watch the parade at the 4 way stops. I was reminded this is like Peachtree Parkway, however, the parkway does not connect two state highways and border a county with out of control building and less of a plan than PTC which kudos, that is hard to do these days.

So yes H&F we need time to plan and I hope Mayor Fleisch and Commissioner Brown can work together to represent the people of the West Village instead of allowing the state to "Gwinnett" our side of town while claiming there is just nothing we can do.

The absurdity of this

is beyond comprehension. We have traffic backups now and another traffic light is going to IMPROVE traffic backups?? Since when has a new and additional traffic light ANYwhere ever improved traffic backups? GADOT had better have the sense to say no, we won't go for this.
