UPDATED — F'ville cops release sketch of armed kidnapping suspect

UPDATED with location — Fayetteville Police are looking for the man depicted in this sketch after a female jogger reported an attempted kidnapping Thursday, July 12 at approximately 12:50 p.m. in the Villages at LaFayette neighborhood next to Fayette County High School.

The male suspect is described as being in his early to mid-twenties, having Middle Eastern/ Hispanic features with curly un-kept hair and a full beard. The suspect may speak broken English.

The suspect was driving a small red, four door, passenger car possibly an older model with peeling paint on the hood.

The female was jogging in her Villages at LaFayette neighborhood when she was approached by the suspect in his vehicle, police said. The suspect pointed a gun at her and told her to get in the vehicle.

The victim was able to run away and called 911 immediately. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Melissa Peacock at the Fayetteville Police Department, 770-719-4227.

Police released the location of the attempted kidnapping in an official posting on their Facebook page.

thanks for the update on the location!

I'm going to have to agree with the post on comparing Fayetteville and Fayette Co to other places. If you think we live in a crime-ridden crap hole you ought to do some sightseeing. Might I suggest taking ride through certain parts of Macon, Albany, or Columbus not to mention many sections of Atlanta? I work in some of the the most dangerous neighborhoods in Atlanta and am quite happy and relieved to come home and rest my head in Fayette Co.

Is it perfect? No. But I, for one, am not looking to live in a squeaky clean, lily white bubble. I'm going to make an educated guess and predict that you're more likely to get killed by your neighbor driving home drunk from the local Applebee's that you are getting shot by some swarthy stranger in a jalopy. ((I'm not trying to minimize the incredibly frightening incident this poor woman experienced)) While we shouldn't let our guard down we should be somewhat relieved to live in a relatively safe area of GA.

Kidnapper car tag

Want to bet the car tag was either Clayton, Henry or Fulton? It's so incredibly sad what this fine town has become. It's a scary place to be now. You have to watch your back at all times. I miss the safe place that Fayetteville used to be.

...

Do you ever look at crime stats before you go on your "Fayetteville is a dump now" rants? I've got a challenge for you, compare the crime rate in Fayetteville/Fayette County to any other city/county around here and then come back and say that this is a "scary place to live."
This challenge goes to the "Fayette-dale" folks too.

Sad but True

Sadly Fayetteville is no longer the quiet country haven that it once was. Now violent crime seems be making the headlines every day. There was an article recently in the Citizen stating the number of young people in Fayette has decreased. There is a direct correlation between crime and a finding a suitable environment to raise a family. My husband and I have left Fayette County for this reason (so have many friends and family members). So…what can be done to bring back the youth and decrease the crime?

It's reported on the City of Fayetteville Web Site happened at the Villages at LaFayette. Behind Fayette Co High School. Has me wondering why we are just learning of this today (7/18), and incident occured on 7/12.

Post your link to that info

I've looked on the city website and their Facebook page and cannot find the information you disclose here. Perhaps you would like to share your source ...?

How can we be on the lookout when we don't have a clue about the vacinity?
