PTC man dies following head-on crash

A Peachtree City man who was seriously injured in a head-on auto crash on Ga. Highway 74 south Thursday morning has died, police said.

Stuart Hoff, 67, owner of Phoenix Star taxi service, died after he was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital via air ambulance, police said.

The crash also seriously injured the driver of the other vehicle, identified as Daniel Jimenez-Dominquez, 24, of Atlanta, police said. Jiminez-Dominquez was also airlifted to Grady Memorial for treatment.

Police said Hoff’s vehicle, an older model Scion xB, was traveling north on Hwy. 74 prior to the crash when it crossed the median and struck Jiminez-Dominquez’s Honda Civic head-on.

The crash occurred just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 74 near the Rinnai campus.

Both victims were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be extricated by firefighters.

The crash is being investigated by the police department's Community Response Team, which has special training in auto accident reconstruction.

PTCGOIL COMMENT

Someone just sent a response. Reference PTCGOIL comment on July 15 (the day my husband died). Funny response that there better not be tire tracks in the median or else... I will not respond further. This has been a quick lesson on the nature of some people.

Final comment

I don't, and never have, responded to blogs. But the hurt is too great. To the individual making a comment about tire tracks across the median- You are a cold hearted person and I hope for you, that you never lose a loved one in a tragic accident. Your comment has hurt more than you will know. I hope you got the satisfaction you were seeking.

I understand your hurt at the lose of your husband. The post that you are referring to was created before any information regarding the status of those involved in the wreck. The first news story that was put up by The Citizen only acknowledged that there was a wreck at that location and the injured parties were taken to the hospital.

I'm truly sorry for your lose and did say a prayer for both victims and their families.

Stuart's Death

I was just told of this blog. I have read all comments. Thank you Scorallo and all of the other supportive comments. Stuart was a wonderful man, and my husband. This was a loss of a life. Shame on all of you who did not focus on that.

Stuart Hoff

Stuart Hoff was a great guy who helped people in this community for a long time. I have heard that he sufferred a medical emergency while driving the vehicle and lost consciousness and control of the vehicle causing the accident. My thoughts and sympathy go out to his family and wife Diane. I will miss him on my future trips to and from the airport, miss his stories and insight and hope God helps his family through their loss. I hope that the other victim of this accident makes it through and everyone involved will be in my prayers.

I must also address the comment made by a person here about the weedy median and lack of DOT maintenance. How sick of a mind do you have to make a political statement from the loss of life from this accident. If that is your focus from this tragedy, you are one heartless SOB!

tragic accident

I am so sorry to hear about Stuart Hoff - he was a hard working man and was just married in the last year. I always enjoyed talking to him, and am sad his life was cut short in this way. My heart goes out to his wife and I hope that she has a strong support system to get her through this awful time.

74s crash

My daughter and I passed it, maybe 10 mins. after it happened. Crosstown and 74 were just being shut down by an officer. It happened south of the intersection. There were absolutely no brake or skid marks, in the median, like the driver never pressed the break, and hit the car head on. It immediately reminds me to pay attention, and be thankful for everyday. The comments should ONLY be for support, "weed infested median", was ridiculous to say. We immediately said a prayer, as we approached it, knowing someone probably lost their life, or was fighting for it. It was very upsetting. There appeared to be 1 car, pulled over just in front of the wreck, we thought that had to have been a witness, who pulled over to help. I couldn't imagine if I had seen that in my rearview mirror. Drive safely, and keep them in your prayers.

I hope both drivers...

make through OK. Judging by the condition of the sedan this was a very violent crash. Could this have been a head-on?

Witnesses said

the taxi was traveling northbound and came across the median and hit the Honda. A guy I know was on his way to work and saw the taxi coming across the median and had to swerve not to get hit by the vehicle. Unfortunately the Honda was right behind him and never saw the taxi coming. He said it was very, very, VERY bad. The road was blocked for almost 5hrs while the accident investigation was done. Praying for both drivers and their families...

That's what I thought it was. So sad. I wonder if the taxi driver fell asleep at the wheel and then crossed the median?

Which one was trying to run

Which one was trying to run the stoplight while on the cellphone?
It's dangerous on the PTC roadways. People running stoplight, talking and
texting on the cell phones and not paying attention.
Cellphones need to be banned while driving. Period.

lettinguno, Get your facts right before you type...

upon your keyboard!

As of about 9:30 PM I was informed that the taxi driver had passed away.

lettinguno had no facts as to the cause of the accident even remotely right.

How about we mourn one of our fellow citizens, with their family, and ask our individual Saviour for forgiveness.

What stoplight?

There is no stoplight there. This accident had nothing to do with running stoplights. As far as the other three, who knows?
The site of the accident is on my way to work. The Crosstown/TDK Blvd intersection (actually the same street with different names) was already closed at about 8:28 am, and southbound traffic had to go through TDK Blvd and right to Dividend Drive to bypass the accident site.
There was a chopper on site about 8:40a.
If I had the time, I would have stepped out to see what they were doing, but were pretty busy today.
In any case, at 12 noon the road was still closed to traffic, according to a workmate that had to drive around it.
As I left home at 6:05p the skid marks on the median were marked with orange spray and small flags. There are more markings southbound at the curb, but I guess this is where the cars were parked after the accident. Other markings are on the right lane (there are only 2), close to the entrance for the engineering firm Tienan-Patrylow and other offices.
At least one of the drivers is probably dead by now, if only because a road closed 3++ hrs is a sign of major injuries or death.
This is the second head-on accident with deaths/major injuries in a multi-lane highway in the Peachtree City-Newnan area in less than 3 months. Something to think about. And watch for.

Confusing!!!

The Crosstown--TDK streets (one and the same road) on 74 South had a traffic light the last time I went by there!

I'm not sure a road closed any given amount of time signifies how significant injuries are!
This only happens in the country anyway, (and Atlanta) most places they are photographed and dragged away instantly to avoid more mayhem! California for instance.
I don't know what cops have to do with law suits anyway. They know quickly what happened in most cases.
I would just as soon not hear from the regular cops on here as to the necessity of all this.

Hey, Courthouserules, wake up and pay attention!
From all your comments, it looks like you barely read these posts (let alone understand them) before simply running your mouth.
Then give us yet another good dose of your bigotry and plain lack of sensitivity to the matter at hand with your callous "Latino" comment.
You have not been paying attention to what it is being said.
There is a traffic light in Crosstow/TDK Blvd (which, in fact, it still is the same street with different names). Because neither you nor the reporter who authors this article bothered to check out the actual scene of the accident, both you and him/her think the accident happened "between Crosstown and TDK Blv", which would put it straight in the intersection where your famous stoplight is.

Now, back to the facts:

+ Crosstown Rd and TDK Blvd are the SAME street, with different names depending on which side of SR-74 you are.
+ The accident did not happen at the intersection of Crosstown Rd.and TDK Blvd, contrary to what this reporter seemed to suggest at first.
It happened at SR-74, in the segment between Crosstown Rd/TDK Blvd. and Dividend Dr, where yes, there is another of your famous "stoplights" (actually, traffic light, last time I checked this afternoon. And YES, there is a difference between the two).
+ As this article finally bothered to check, the crash happened near the Rianni entrance, half-way into the abovementioned SR-74 segment.
Have you bothered to drive through the area anytime between last Friday and today, you could have easily found out those facts on your own and save all of us your mindless, clueless, and insensitive blabber.
+ Like it or not, it took 3++ hrs to finally clear up the road.
And no, you are not sure if that means a serious injury or death.
This is one of the few truths in all your blabber. You do not know.
In fact, you could simply start all your posts with, "I don't know what I am saying, nor why I am saying it, but here I go ...". You might as well.

Courthouserules, some people actually do their homework before posting stuff in here.
You REALLY need to do yours. Beginning with thinking up the purpose of your posting to your fellow humans before your fingers are let go on that keyboard of yours.
Mine was and is to report on what I actually saw and differs from "official" versions, be it inaccuracies, biases, or just plain sloppiness, like it seems the case in this article.
And, as for confusing, I think a short attention span is actually to blame. As a saying goes: "Just because I have a short span of attention does not mean."
Exactly.

AK and others sensitive to this situation, CHR or his many other

entities, does not let good taste get in the way of what he considers "cute" posts. Many of us here have determined that there are times when he forgets to take his medication and the insensitive, inane gibberish ensues. Then, there are times when he actually almost makes sense. He always manages to throw in something that has nothing to do with the subject others are posting about. Anyone with an ounce of feeling or sensitivity should be thinking of the families of the driver who did not survive and the injured other party--regardless of their ethnic origin, or anything else. People are hurting and it is not time to be insensitive or 'cute'.

Over the median?

You mean that weed infested, litter dump in the middle of 74 South that GDOT takes such pride in not maintaining?

There better not be ANY tire tracks in there to spoil all that taxpayer funded beauty....or I'm gonna.......

You are an insensitive idiot to view this situation and the tragedy of lives lost and families saddened by making it a political issue of the DOT not maintaining the median. If that is what you see from this accident, you are heartless as well.

PTCGOIL's post was made prior to the announcement of the passing of the taxi's driver. The original news story which was posted Thursday morning gave no specific details as to the drivers' identification or status.
