Couple recovering after Tuesday crash

A local couple who were injured in a two-car collision with a sheriff's deputy late Tuesday morning continue to recover in separate hospitals.

Gerald and Linda Sudduth received several injuries in the crash, according to family friend Carol Hamner. Gerald Sudduth suffered broken ribs, a fractured back and multiple contusions and lacerations, Hamner said. He is recovering in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital where is is conscious "and very concerned for his wife," Hamner said.

Linda Sudduth is in the ICU at Atlanta Medical Center where she remains under sedation as of this afternoon, having suffered broken wrists and developed difficulty breathing, Hamner said. She is being monitored closely by ICU staff there, Hamner added.

Hamner said there has been an outpouring of community concern for the Sudduths, as Gerald Suddth is the CEO and executive director for Fayette Samaritans, an organization that provides food, clothing and other assistance to needy families here.

Hamner asked the community to keep the Sudduths in their prayers.

Following is the previous story about the crash published online yesterday:

Three people were injured late this morning in a collision between a sheriff's deputy and a minivan on Ga. Highway 314 at White Oak Way, just north of the Fayette Pavilion shopping center.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, but the deputy and two victims in minivan were taken to Atlanta Medical Center and Grady Hospital in downtown Atlanta, emergency medical officials said.

The deputy was responding to a reported shooting when the crash occurred, officials said.

The crash resulted in the temporary shutdown of all southbound traffic on Hwy. 314. The incident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.

God bless you two.

And I'll pray your recover is swift and complete.

I wonder about the "shooting" incident and investigation into other contributing factors of the crash.
