With Common Core, kids’ educational freedom is at stake

Have you heard of Common Core? In a nutshell, Obama’s plan to takeover all education, just like Obamacare has taken over healthcare.

Your child will not be taught critical thinking, history rewritten. Teachers will be teaching to the test. It is the dumbing down of your child’s education. You will have no say in the matter. You do have a say with the state of Georgia. Gov. Deal can get rid of Common Core with a stroke of a pen. Senator Ligon will be introducing legislation to rescind Common Core.

Common Core is a federal takeover of our local and state control of our education system and it’s against the law! The federal government is not allowed to set any educational curriculum standards. This is a states rights issue. This will not only apply to all public schools, Christian, charter, private and homeschoolers. No one is safe, not even colleges.

Common Core will track your child’s behavior, ask questions via worksheets on the computer about your family, ask personal private questions as a “homework” assignment. Track your child’s expression while taking a test on computers. All this will be available and for sale to corporations or “stakeholders” as they call it. Bill Gates has funded and wrote the standards.

Infinite Campus is a tool already implemented to track your child. Fayette County Board Of Education could use Infinite Campus to email all parents about the meeting considering the short notice!

Governor Deal has the power of the stroke of the pen to get rid of Common Core. The state has been hoodwinked, thinking this was a good idea without investigating the facts. Texas and Alaska have rejected Common Core. Other states are beginning to see that they too would like to rescind Common Core and are in the process of rejection.

Dr. Barge (Ga. State Superintendent) will be at Fayette County explaining Common Core. I accessed Fayette County Board of Education website, no meeting announcement. They will say, “We had a meeting and no one objected to Common Core.”

There will be a forum on Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS) on Monday, June 10, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Sam’s Auditorium, 205 Lafayette Ave (Tiger Trail), Fayetteville, GA 30214.

Common Core and Bush not Obama

I believe that this was a Bush initiative not Obama and it was chaired by then Governor Sonny Perdue. Our previous President and previous Georgia Governor...

Mr. Sussberg - Should

Should this surprise us? The feds just grow and grow. Under all parties the philosophy is the same - a more powerful central government control of our lives. A government of wolves in a sea of sheeple.

Doesn't matter...

...who it was started under. Bush was a Progressive as well.

Government grows. It is after all what it does. It finds a perceived problem... creates a 1000 page "solution" which in itself creats more problems then they create a 100 page "solution" to fix that one too... and the cycle continues.

More Bureaucracy more Government agencies.

Common Core is nothing more then Universal Education... and like that one size (universal) fits all shirt.. It really doesn't fit all.

Yes let the Federal Government run Common Core...

...after all it has done so well with everything else it does.

Someone anyone show me where in the Constitution the Federal Government has any authority to create a "common" curriculum for students?

Education should be run at the State level where WE the residents of that State can hold accountable those that fail to properly teach our children.

At the Federal level they can't even tell us who is responsible for anything. It's always some low level staffer.. or some other flunky. You really want to turn over the education of your kids to those clowns?

Well many do I guess... best to let Government deal with the little monsters after all you have America's Got Talent to watch.

Common Core Standards

Candice Serafin should be afraid that our students might engage in critical thinking. Her letter would serve give them a classic example of paranoid writing embellished with lies.

Ms Serafin and her Tea Party allies have a slim grasp of reality on Common Core (and other matters). Their hatred of President Obama leads them to fantastic conclusions. The Federal Government did not develop the Common Core Standards. Go to corestandards.org if you want to know how the standards came about and why.

Neither President Obama nor the Federal Government is taking over "all education". President Obama has not taken over healthcare. Those are lies.

Common Core Standards is a serious attempt to raise the educational level of all American students. It may not be perfect but it is not a nefarious plot.

It is sad that the Tea Party has injected itself and its political agenda into this educational debate. Paranoia is not an educational value.

Become acquainted with CC standards

Many educational companies have advertised 'programs' for states to buy in order to implement CC. The standards as developed by the committee of 45 state representatives are below. Students should AT LEAST accomplish these standards at their grade level.

DM - Common Core "standards"

as I understand this program, it is entirely up to the local school system as to whether or not they adopt them. However, I am sure there will be some sort of fiscal penalty if they fail to adopt.

Educational Freedom?

Aren't you the lady who wanted the county to ban a book earlier this year because the author described a white person as a cracker?

Common Core is not the answer to our educational problem. As a parent, I want a say in my childs education and my goals are much higher than CC.

However, due to grading leniency our education system as a country has declined with these inflated grades. If we do not start to raise the bar, our kids and community will not be able to compete globally.

CC is not the answer, but in our state and local fiscal crisis, I doubt we can turn our backs on the federal funding tied to CC.

Common Core is another dream for nameless bureaucrats

The idea of some basic "core" skills that each student should be taught, sounds reasonable at first. Until you realize that the core skills & the acceptable methods to teach these skills will change over time to include the politically correct ideas of the day.

As with everything else in the world, education will improve with competition - where the parents can move their child to the school of their choice (without having to sell their house). See "Vouchers" for the best solution to this problem. You would think that in a state ranked 49th in education, that we would be open to some market based solutions - instead we keep assuming that the "one size fits all" wisdom from the Federal Gov't will somehow save us.

p.s. Also, where is a study of the U.S. Constitution in the core skills needed?

Ahhh...there's the rub Phil...

...No mention of the Constitution or values or American Exceptionalism is involved.

However they do teach children how to make Socialist USA flags and teach what America would be like under Socialism...Utopia and Fairness.

Has your school informed you of Common Core?

1. Has your childs school informed you of Common Core? No, but I will do my research on this "power grab" of our educators, students and taxpayer $$$$
2. Have teachers & principals exposed this unthical practice with parents at PTO events or with the students in the classroom? The answer will be no! But we will be informed that Common Core is discussed at BOE meetings and everyone approves this unlawful take over of our students, textbooks, testing, etc.
3. Are your children suffering from fuzzy math, mental math?
4. We will learn that educators are instructed to implement CC and not to question or else. . . . . . ?
5. Communities are lining up to rescind CC in several states; do your own research!
6. Could this failure of CC in the classroom be the reason why this young man recently made national news with his disgust of "dumbing-down" our education process in America?
