A flag retirement ceremony  is today at 6:30 p.m. at Drake Field in Peachtree City.  American Legion Post 50 will be conducting its annual flag retirement ceremony. This ceremony will retire unserviceable U.S. flags that have been contributed by the citizens of Peachtree City.  The public is invited to attend and participate in this patriotic ceremony.

A silent auction will be held at the Holiday Dorsey Fife Museum in Fayetteville on the square from 4 p.m.to 6 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the local art group chapter of the international artgroup Artistsmecca. The funds will go to both the individual artists whose artwork is up for auction at the museum and a small portion will go to help Artsitsmecca start a small recording studio. Items up for auction include an Ibanez electric guitar (and possible others), paintings by a local Whitewater High School wrestling coach (Coach Cepada Cloud), photographs, woodcarvings, hand-made home decor items, sketches, a recording demo with the upcoming Artistsmecca Studio, and so much more! A traditional Memorial Day ceremony is at 11 a.m. at the Fayetteville City Cemetery. American flags will decorate the graves of veterans buried there. All Fayette County citizens are invited to attend. Bring lawn chairs. In event of rain, ceremony will be held at American Legion Log Cabin, next to Fayetteville Fire Station. Peachtree City’s annual Memorial Day ceremony  is today at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall Plaza.  Join our local American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars for a patriotic ceremony commemorating those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.  The special guest speaker will be Major General George B. Harrison, Retired.

The Georgia Department of Labor is holding a career expo in Building A at the LaFayette Educational Center in Fayetteville from 9 a.m. until noon During the expo, attendees will meet with area employers who are hiring, including other school systems. They will also have the opportunity to hear about different options for training and education. Attendees can also visit with community resource providers who can assist them with other needs.

The fourth annual Historic Senoia Bicycle Tour is today. This easy 3-hour bicycle tour of historic Senoia is for bicyclists of all ages and abilities. The tour is great for people interested in the history of the area, interesting architecture, tales of residents past and present, and the sites where such films and TV episodes have been shot as “Fried GreenTomatoes,” “The War,” “Andersonville” and “The Walking Dead.”
The tour starts at 9 a.m.  It will begin and end at the Senoia Area Historical Societyheadquarters and museum at 6 Couch Street, where riders will have the opportunity to view a brief history of the town and images of some of Senoia’s key citizens and structures from the past, then ride through the Senoia Historic District, making stops in front of homes and churches.  Afterward, enjoy light refreshments and a chance to win a door prize and take a walk through time. Recommended donations are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 13.  All proceeds benefit the Senoia Area Historical Society.  Donations are tax deductible.  Helmets are required.  Due to frequent stops, walkable cycling shoes are recommended.
