F’ville Police ask for help monitoring abandoned homes, businesses
The Fayetteville Police Department is asking for your assistance in keeping an eye on abandoned properties.
Due to current economic conditions, there are abandoned homes and businesses in just about every neighborhood, according to Detective Mike Whitlow of the Fayetteville Police Department.
These properties become easy targets for thefts, vandalism and squatters, Whitlow said.
Recently, thieves stole appliances, fixtures and shrubbery from a vacant home, while a neighbor, who thought the thieves were bank representatives, watched, Whitlow said.
Citizens are encouraged to call 911 immediately if anyone is seen at an abandoned property. Police can determine if the subjects are there for legitimate purposes or not, Whitlow said.
