Newnan celebrates “Georgia Cities Week”
The City of Newnan will celebrate “Georgia Cities Week” April 18–24 by sponsoring a variety of activities for the whole family. The theme of this year’s Georgia Cities Week is “Georgia’s Cities: Energy to Transform,” highlighting cities contributions in economic development, historic preservation and in providing of quality of life for residents and businesses.
As part of the celebration of Georgia Cities Week, Main Street Newnan will have a Taste of Newnan on Thursday April 22. City Hall’s Artist of the month display is also in celebration of the city and its citizens for the month of April. The art is displayed in the city manager’s office at city hall, located at 25 LaGrange Street.
A Taste of Newnan will be held from 5–8 p.m. in downtown on the square. The Taste of Newnan is a tradition for good food, fun and entertainment.
A city inspired art contest was recently held in the local high schools. Art students were encouraged to participate in submitting their best entries of art in depicting the ‘Energy to Transform’ theme. The top five art pieces will be displayed at The Carnegie all week. The winners will be announced at a later date.
The 11th annual Backyard Picnic for city employees will be held on Friday, April 23 from 11:30 – 1:00 behind city hall. This picnic shows city employees appreciation for all the hard work they do every day to make the city a great place to live. Drinks will be provided by Buffalo Rock Company.
“We are very proud of our city and the services we provide that make it attractive to residents and visitors,” said city public information officer Gina Snider. “Too often, people are unaware of how cities enhance their quality of life, and we like them to participate in these events and learn more about local government.”
Georgia Cities Week is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association and is designed to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide.
