SCHS after-prom party hit by robbers

An after-prom party at the home of a Sandy Creek High School assistant principal early Sunday morning was interrupted by several males who approached a group of students on the street, robbed them and fired several shots as they fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 23 when Sandy Creek High School students were attending an after-prom party at the Camelot Drive home of Sandy Creek Assistant Principal Shannon Lain.

Upon their arrival at the scene of the robbery call, deputies found that there were multiple victims who told officers that they had been robbed of cash, cell phones and other personal belongings, Babb said.

“The victims were attendees at an after-prom party being held on Camelot Drive. They were standing on the street when they were approached by eight to nine black males brandishing pistols,” said Babb. “After the items were taken from the victims, several of the perpetrators discharged their weapons as they fled on foot. None of the victims were struck or injured.”

Babb said Lain made the call to report the incident, which took place in the street near her residence.

Babb described the perpetrators as eight to nine young black males wearing dark clothing. Several of the males are described as having dreadlocks.

Babb said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-716-4750. Callers can remain anonymous.

"There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved. After all we have been through, just to think we can't walk down our own streets, how humiliating." Jesse Jackson, 1993 in speech to Operation PUSH.

Party Poopers

I guess these fine young men were upset that they did not get an invite to the after prom party.

Shooting

The son of the assistant principal and some of his friends asked if he would host an alcohol and drug free party. The assistant principal/father was more than happy too considering the request. Some punks had to ruin a good thing.

Party thrown by an administrator?

Something just doesn't sit right with me about a party being thrown by a school administrator, unless one of her own children was at the prom and it was her child's friends.

Hope they catch the thugs

And lock them away.

It's a nice gesture from the assistant principal to hold an after prom party. I don't know, if in the same position, I would want the added liability.
