PTC extends Saturday drinking hours

To serve til 2 a.m. Sunday, businesses must add video surveillance

Peachtree City has adopted extended alcohol sales hours for bars and restaurants, which will allow them to serve until 2 a.m. on early Sunday mornings instead of the current midnight cutoff.

The move, which takes effect April 1, was made largely for financial reasons.

Establishments in Coweta County are allowed to serve until 2 a.m., causing Peachtree City businesses to lose customers, City Administrative Services Director Betsy Tyler told the City Council Thursday night.

Also, the city’s conference centers have difficulty attracting wedding parties on Saturday nights due to the midnight cutoff, Tyler said.

There is a bit of a public safety angle too. Peachtree City has far more alternatives for a safe ride home including cab service, city staff said.

Council’s intent is to review the ordinance after six months to determine if it is worth keeping or ditching.

To take advantage of the new 2-hour window, bars and restaurants will have to install video surveillance cameras at the main customer and employee entrances as well as the parking area immediately next to the establishment.

Another caveat is that the businesses will have to shoo all customers out by 2:30 a.m.

Businesses will still be responsible for not over-serving patrons or they could face liability issues, said Police Chief H.C. “Skip” Clark. The city’s most active night of the week for DUI arrests is Saturday, followed closely by Friday, Clark noted.

The ordinance also enacts the 2 a.m. alcohol sales deadline on a nightly basis. Under current ordinance, businesses could sell all night and all day during the week until midnight Saturday, with some able to resume sales Sundays at 12:30 p.m. and others at 12:01 a.m. Monday, according to city staff.

Tyler presented retail data that showed in the food service/drinking industry sector, Peachtree City was losing out on $12 million in sales, while Coweta County was over-achieving with a surplus in the same category by $13 million.

The city council’s vote to adopt the new alcohol sales hours was unanimous.

What are you talking about? How could you already be there when it is not even built yet and will not open for 4 more months? I will run a press release when it is time...no need to run one 4 or 5 months before opening.

Not sure you have a clue to what you are talking about. Your post makes no sense.

Not to worry, the "Privat Club/Bar will have plenty of security cameras. Only access to top (second floor) is past security personnel and then obtain access to private elevator. Club will also include "valet parking" and many more amenities.

I look forward to seeing you there.

The 2 hour issue on Saturday makes no sense...either require cameras all the time, at all establishments, or don't require them at all.

Dar, as with anything you post, you do it incorectlly

You should have posted your reply under my post, reply to me, so that it would be read in the correct order. I fully understand your presumption that if you posted under the main article you would be "on top" as it were.

As to your offer, I've already been there. As should be expected, not much happening there. I doubt there will be any difference after you open. It’s kinda like, “Once a “has been” always a “has been” sort of thing. I’m sure you understand.

Hope you do well there.

Regards

P.S. Where was your press release?

Simply Silly!

$12M deficit (estimated) versus a $13M surplus for an adjoining county, and our council requires the installation of video equipment? Could it be our Council has Baptist roots?

We're trying to generate revenue, not discourage retail business. Hopefully the city will credit the cost of the video equipment against the $5K alcohol license.

This Makes No Sense:

"To take advantage of the new 2-hour window, bars and restaurants will have to install video surveillance cameras at the main customer and employee entrances as well as the parking area immediately next to the establishment."

Why? Because it's Saturday not Friday? I don't understand the reasoning. If there is a reason or a purpose then require all establishments to install surveillance.

You've finally given businesses the break they need BUT they will have to spend thousands of dollars to get that break. ZERO LOGIC.

By the way, I'm opening a new security camera business next week.

Agreed, this makes no sense

I sure wish a public official would go on record as to exactly why the new 2 hour window on one night per week requires video surveillance now.

In the absence of a quantifiable civic need for cameras, either require video surveillance as a condition of getting an alcohol license or do away with this requirement altogether.

CPB, Think Buckhead, drinking, crime and no one willing to talk

then you should understand.

Better yet, stay at home and drink until 3:00 AM if you like. Other than your other half and their surveillance equipment the world will never know.

Relax Dar, it won’t cost you that much extra

to install the video equipment required for you to keep you new ‘private’ club open until 2:00 AM.

Oh, I’m sorry, was that supposed to be a secret?

Now Dar

this is going to be an addendum to the little known or talked about ordinance named "You know nothing good happens after midnight".

Tell us about all that skyscraper steel going up. Are you going to allow the club members to go up there and direct the traffic into Falcon Field after dark or what?

Could be that the roof top is to be for senior nude sunbathing. Perhaps Round$nout will make an appearance with his favorite mayor..

Mike King, now I feel violently ill

The thought of Da. Mayor in the buff is enough to send most people over the edge.

What am I to do after 2:00AM?

I simply can not get enough to drink with friends after 2:00AM!

I know we could pickup $12,000,000 more dollars in Fayette every year---that is $120,000,000 every ten years, by simply staying open until 2:30 AM on Sunday morning! The City mouth said so!

That is the first thing I check when I decide to go to PTC, when can one get more drinks! I move over to Coweta County where it is wide open if I have to.

I really didn't know that we "run" on alcohol as much as we do! Maybe my one rum and coke per week at home isn't sufficient.

What else would create more sales in PTC if we allowed it all night? Lot of money there.
