PTC cops bust man selling 'hot' car parts

A posting on Craigslist helped Peachtree City police nab a Williamson man suspected of stealing a car from the Braelinn Village shopping center Dec. 8, police said.

Clayton Phillip Ward, 22, was arrested Friday after he met with undercover detectives in an attempt to sell the vehicle’s ...

wheels and tires, police said.

The wheels belonged to a 1992 Honda Prelude that was stolen Dec. 8 and recovered Friday at Ward’s home with assistance from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, police said.

The wheels and tires were put for sale on Craigslist Thursday and detectives posing as buyers met with Ward Friday in the parking lot of the Wilshire Pavilion shopping center on Ga. Highway 74 south, police said.

Ward, who had the wheels and tires with him at the time, was placed under arrest at the scene, police said.

Ward is charged with three felonies: motor vehicle theft, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, police said.

One Good Thing

At least one good thing has come out of this. He should now have learned at an early age that he is not a very good criminal. I guess he thought that waiting a couple of months to let the theft die down was the way the pros would do it. Maybe when he gets out of jail he will have sense enough to find a new occupation. One can only hope. CraigsList is a hotbed for stolen stuff. The cops troll it constantly.

Google is your friend young

Google is your friend young grasshopper.

Just enter "most stolen cars", every list will have 3 or 4 Acura/Hondas on it. It will be the first 4,024,235 pages on google. Most people who have ever read Forbes, Autoweek, Car & Driver, or any automotive publication knows this. Anyone who has ever owned a Honda know this, insurance (full coverage at least) is typically high for this reason.

Lack of this basic automotive knowledge should be noted in your man-file.......

Stupid Criminals

If you're going to chance being charged with multiple felonies, for heaven's sake, steal something a little better than a 1992 Prelude. Didn't he think it was odd that the only person he could find to sell this stuff to wanted to meet him in PTC?

Prelude

1.) This particular Prelude had a very high end motor and parts on it.

2.) If you would have read any major News Magazine over the past 10-15 years, you would know that Honda's are the #1 stolen car in this country becuase of their parts compatability between all models.

(NOTE: I am NOT a Honda owner either)

Dipstick Mentality

If the tires that he was trying to sell were original equipment, they would be almost 20 years old. Maybe a newer model would have been a better choice.

If you interacted with more than one person over the last 10-15 years, then you would know not to presume a person does not read from one comment made. I do like your commercial reference, though I have never been accused with thinking with my dipstick before.

There is nothing on this car

There is nothing on this car that was 20 years old but the body... I have driven the car many of times. It was stolen for the parts it had. I hope that the owner gets the car back!
