‘Mourning’ sign shot up, stolen

Mr. Obama’s SS Corps (“corpse,” as he calls them) are busy in Fayette County, per Mr. Lawson’s letter in the Feb. 13 Citizen.

Following the election in November, I placed a sign of mourning for my beloved country, stating, “Rest In Peace, America” with a small upside-down American flag, the symbol of a nation in distress. I also fly my large American flag upside down at half-mast.

The last week in January four white men in a red sports car shot four holes in the sign at approximately 4 p.m. My disabled son, working at his computer that faces the street heard the shots, which he thought were firecrackers, saw the vehicle turn around and view the damage, then speed off.

My husband was critically ill at the time. When I returned home, it was late, I was physically and emotionally exhausted, so didn’t call the police.

On Feb. 10, the day following my husband’s funeral, someone stole the sign.

I, too, shall obtain another sign with the intention of displaying it until God answers the prayers of patriotic Americans and heals our land.

Bill, AHG, PTCA re flag

Time and place, gentlemen, time and place.
I think it's praiseworthy to educate the public and to support proper flag etiquette. It's also your right to stand up for Obama.
But, your choice to attack a widow was a very poor choice.
And, a hardhearted one.
You could have chosen to simply let her letter pass without comment but I think you get so carried away by your ability to express yourselves anonymously that you forget common good manners and personal etiquette.
(And, no, we both don't know the answer)

today's lesson in flag etiquette

So you're telling me that YOU don't know if you displayed the American Flag correctly in YOUR OWN election materials ?

Today's episode of "educate the public and to support proper flag etiquette"
4 USC § 7 - Position and manner of display:
(k) When used on a speaker’s platform, the flag, if displayed flat, should be displayed above and behind the speaker. When displayed from a staff in a church or public auditorium, the flag of the United States of America should hold the position of superior prominence, in advance of the audience, and in the position of honor at the clergyman’s or speaker’s right as he faces the audience. Any other flag so displayed should be placed on the left of the clergyman or speaker or to the right of the audience.

No upside down flags here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwWvQK86Zew

Also, to illustrate my point more clearly, the flag shown in the video is to the speakers right, which is correct as per the Flag code.
Good job Mr. Pfeifer, you got it correct.
Any politician worth his weight needs to know Proper flag etiquette. Only the shady deal, Boss Hog, road to nowhere type politician would get that wrong. Since you are obviously not that type, I won't lump you in with them ( making generalizations would be wrong of me, so I won't do it).

And since I am not lumping you in with those folks, don't lump me in with every whackjob and wingnut on the internet, please.

(No offense to the whackjobs and wingnuts out there, just trying to make a point and got carried away with my ability to express myself anonymously and forgot my good manners and personal etiquette)

I am my own wingnut (or is it whackjob?) and prefer to stand on my own merit, not the work of others, thank you. The beauty of the internet is that it is always the right time, and we both came to the same place.

I can be reached directly at bill0341@yahoo.com, bring on the internet crazies and keybangers!

"Attacking a widow?"

No one was attacking a widow and stop being obstinate and also willfully ignorant about this. You're showing quite clearly why you are no longer an elected official and FC is the better for it frankly.

People have the right to express themselves here within certain boundaries and the "attacked widow" had her say and now everyone else does too. If you don't like it, too bad...... take your ball and go home.

Mr Pfeifer

What I find contemptible is the intentional disrespect of our nations Flag.

What I find pathetic is the lack of courage some folks have to ask the (not) difficult questions: Why are you doing that and why won't you stop?

What I find disgsting is that, per her own admission, this nonsense has been going on SINCE NOVEMBER and the only "news" is the "missing" sign.

No Sir, I am not contemptible, pathetic or disgusting.

What I am is Veteran of our Armed Forces (are you?) who won't sit idly by when some goof intentionally disrespects the symbol of our nation. I may not be able to convince this person to act correctly, but I have the courage to go knock on the door and try.

When you were using the American Flag in your election/reelection campaigns, did you display it incorrectly?

Don't bother looking it up, we both know the answer.

Well said Bill--and I bet many don't know that if you want to fly Old Glory 24x7 (like I do), it must be a Storm Flag and lighted at night.
Nylon & outside light controlled by a Photocell works real well!

Fishy Flag Story

Something about this story is smelling funny to me. If they shot 4 holes into the flag, how did those bullets not hit a window or your house or a person? How do you know it was an Obama supporter? You don't!!!! Maybe some wack jobs thought you were being "anti American". Give me a dang break!

4 white men
4 holes
4 pm

Surely there is an Obama conspiracy behind it all.

PTCA & bill0341 & AHG = Contemptible

Or, should I say, pathetic. This is a woman who just lost her husband and had trespassers come on her property to take here sign and all you can do is quibble over the nomenclature or etiquette or call her a nut? What a group of sad people you truly are. Disgusting.

Peter Piper & v. Wanzer

Peter, if you had done some checking, you would have discovered:
Mr. Wanzer led an eventful 90 year life, 61 of those shared by Mrs. Wanzer. On Jan 17,2012, Mrs. Wanzer wrote a letter to the Citizen disparaging Leonard Presberg and his membership in the Freethought Society. Her closed-minded attitude is rather obvious. She has every right to protest for whatever reason and every right to expect her property to be safe; she does not have any right to expect all to agree with her protest but if she did it the right way and used correct rationale and terminology, her protest might be more credible. Think what you will and call us names if you want but my guess is that more folks agree with us than you. Additionally, shw has no authority to lower the flag to half-staff for any reason. Locally, only the GA Governor can do that. As a former commissioner, perhaps you know that--and just choose to ignore it.

Hanging large upside down American flags in your yard and blaming Obama when they're stolen and writing about how God needs to magically heal our country is nutty. I stand by my statement.

You're A Nut

Wow. Do you have any idea how nutty you sound?

As a side note, the gentleman who wrote in earlier about his Mitt Romney sign being stolen should realize a few things, mainly that the election was in NOVEMBER. Keeping the sign up is the equivalent of keeping your Christmas lights on your house way passed the socially appropriate timeframe.

an upside down flag is NOT the "symbol of a nation in distress"

excerpted from usflag.org http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html#176
§176. Respect for flag
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html#176

I am sorry to hear of your loss, and I am also sorry that some patriotic Americans were overzealous with their damage and theft of your property. I think I have a pretty good feel as to why this damage and theft may have happened, but IMHO poor execution. I wouldn't have stolen your sign, but I would have knocked on your door and asked politely for an explanation as to why you were disrespecting the American flag in that manner, and what could I do to convince you to correct the flag display.
I won't get into your politics vs my politics vs anyone else's politics (like religion, your personal choice to make),and I also won't make any demands/orders on how you decide to handle your property.
What I will do is ask you to reconsider your decision to disrespect the American flag in the manner you have chosen to, and display it in the perscribed manner as set forth in the US flag code, or please take it down. As an idea,if you choose to obtain one of those horrid obama flags and display that upside down, under the correctly displayed American flag, I don't think that any of the other patriots in this very patriotic county would object.
There are many citizens that I'm sure would agree with me and my opinion, and we will collectively ask every and anyone we see to answer "the prayers of patriotic Americans" and convince those who choose to display Old Glory, do so in away that honors the Men and Women who have lived, served, and given the ultimate sacrifice to this great country

Flag Display & terminology

And pls learn the right terminology--half-mast is for ship display--ships have masts. Otherwise, it is half-staff--now, that wasn't hard, was it?
