At Thursday night’s meeting of the Fayette County Commission, new Commissioner Allen McCarty accused a county contractor of using “intimidation” tactics in efforts to acquire land for the second phase of the West Fayetteville Bypass.

McCarty said he had a copy of a letter that was written to a property owner by an agent of the county. McCarty noted that the letter was written on county letterhead with official county stationery, despite the fact that the letter writer “is not an employee or direct representative of Fayette County.”

McCarty said he was very disturbed by the use of county letterhead in the matter, which he considered an act of “intimidation.”

McCarty, who ran for office last year on an anti-bypass platform, said he will continue to work against the project.

“I understand we don’t have the authority to actually stop that project, but we can move it and alter it, and I want to finish the one we started on first, the number-one priority ... the East Fayetteville Bypass,” McCarty said, drawing a round of applause from a contingent of West Fayetteville Bypass opponents who had attended the meeting.

The commission took no action on McCarty’s information, nor was there any further discussion on the topic.

Although the matter was not listed on the agenda, McCarty brought the matter up at the end of the meeting.

Video of Commissioner McCarty's Charges Of Intimidation

"At Thursday night’s meeting of the Fayette County Commission, new Commissioner Allen McCarty accused a county contractor of using “intimidation” tactics in efforts to acquire land for the second phase of the West Fayetteville Bypass."

Hear Commissioner McCarty's comments at the meeting ... AND SEE AND HEAR HERB FRADY TRY TO PREVENT HIM FROM REPORTING ON THIS ...

Mr. Frady did everything he possibly could to silence McCarty and prevent him from presenting the letter on Fayette County letterhead. Why was Mr. Frady trying to stop him?

Also see and hear videos of your fellow Fayette County citizens as they stand up to the three commissioners who want to force this on the people of Fayette County.

Thanks very much, Combat. You have done a great service for our community. You have made it possible for all our citizens to see and hear exactly how our local officials treat other officials who try to stand up for the people of Fayette County.

No matter how many times we are gaveled down and shouted down, we aren't going away, Combat. McCarty and Brown aren't going away, either. It doesn't sound as if you are going to go away either, and I'm very grateful for all you are doing.

We're Also Being Intimidated by the Commissioners, F, H and H!

When commissioners continuously ignore the will of the public, that's intimidation in itself. Especially when every public comment ever made on the WFB has been negative, and they've already lost their two comrades to the voters over the WFB issue. I guess this proves that you can't clean the whole house in one day.

Basically all they are doing is showing all of us that they will remain inflexible to the public will as long as they remain in office.

Too bad we have to put up with this mind set for almost two more years. It makes you wonder what the glue is that is holding them so tightly to the West Bypass Bandwagon! Whatever it is stinks so badly that nobody has yet publicly beaten a drum to sell it.

"will of the public" ???

I have no "will" in this mess!

I am the public!

I know numerous people who leave road building to the road people!

A half dozen citizens and a commissioner or two do not make them the "Public!"

I regret you aren't being paid enough but roads have to be built with all taxpayer's money.

It is only opinions as to whether roads are needed. Same as to the value of property. Would you want to pay taxes on what you "think" it is worth?

A road in general does not destroy a way of life.
The Tennessee Valley Authority in the 30s did away with some old homesteads and worthless farms that flooded but in the end future generations were saved from catastrophe!

WHY WAS AND WHO AUTHORIZED THE LETTERHEAD USE??!!

I want to know WHY Fayette County letterhead was used by a company in McDonough. I want to know WHO authorized that use?

For some strange reason Henry County and the City of McDonough play a big part in Fayette County Government. Our County Attorney used to be Henry County's Attorney. The City of McDonough's current Director of Public Works used to be Fayette County's Director of Public Works and is now one of Fayette County's Commissioners.

Our previous Fayette County Commissioners needed a company to appraise and acquire land from Fayette County citizens to build the West Fayetteville Bypass so they awarded a McDonough company that job. The company is Dianna Hunt and Associates in McDonough and they were using Fayette County letterhead to send appraisal notices and acquisition letters to Fayette County residents!

I want to know WHY I received a letter from a company in McDonough on Fayette County letterhead and WHO AUTHORIZED IT. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SOME FAYETTE COUNTY OFFICIAL HAD TO HAVE AUTHORIZED THAT!!! I hardly think Dianna Hunt or Jo Beckham slithered into Fayette County offices in the middle of the night and stole Fayette County letterhead. Did they infiltrate Fayette County offices and coerce county employees to give them the letterhead? I hardly think so!!!

I want to know WHY AND WHO???!!!

Who knew - Ginga1414

Your post should read, "who knew what and when did they know it?" We all know why, now don't we?

If these guys keep it up, they may be just stupid enough to go to jail.

If what you say is true, there is a little matter of fraud at work here.

PTC, I Also Want To Know

I also want to know why my tax dollars were used to pay for correspondence that was sent to me saying that Fayette County wants to buy my property from me with my own tax dollars.

ESSENTIALLY SPEAKING, I AM PAYING FOR MY OWN PROPERTY TWICE AND THEN GIVING IT TO FAYETTE COUNTY TO BUILD A ROAD THROUGH MY PROPERTY WHICH WILL LOWER MY PROPERTY VALUE BUT RAISE MY PROPERTY TAXES BECAUSE FAYETTE COUNTY WILL NEED THE HIGHER TAX RATE THEY WILL GET FROM ME TO MAINTAIN THAT PAVED ROAD!!!

SUPPOSEDLY, THAT NEW ROAD WILL RELIEVE TRAFFIC IN DOWNTOWN FAYETTEVILLE. HOWEVER, RELIEVING TRAFFIC IN DOWNTOWN FAYETTEVILLE COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE THE GOAL OF THE WEST FAYETTEVILLE BYPASS BECAUSE MAYOR KEN STEELE, THE ATLANTA REGIONAL COMMISSION AND HERB FRADY PLAN TO BUILD AN OUTER LOOP THROUGH DOWNTOWN FAYETTEVILLE ALONG HWY.54.

THE GOAL OF THE WEST FAYETTEVILLE BYPASS IS TO INCREASE DEVELOPMENT WHICH WILL INCREASE THE TAX BASE FOR THE COUNTY AND THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE. THE DEVELOPMENT WILL ALSO INCREASE TAXES BECAUSE ALL THAT DEVELOPMENT WILL HAVE TO BE MAINTAINED!!!

letter writen by outside company on Fayette county stationery!

"the letter was written on county letterhead with official county stationery, despite the fact that the letter writer “is not an employee or direct representative of Fayette County.”

That sounds like someone should be held responsible for this one. If true, it is completely off the charts wrong!

Since you know what the letter says, how about posting a copy here so we can make a judgement of it's authenticity.

Where did this tale come fom anyway.

moelarrycurly, Hunt and Beckham Work For The County

Since Dianna Hunt and Jo Beckham were hired to work for Fayette County, I hardly think they would be willing to cough-up the name of the County employee or Official who authorized the usage of County letterhead.

Well, have you asked them? Won't know if they will tell you till you ask, now will you? If they are being accused of stealing it or using it without the proper permission, they might just give you the answer.

seems to me the lips will be sealed at the County offices on this one. How about just asking Diana Hunt and Jo Beckham who gave it to them.

False letter?

Just have the District Attorney indict the forger (and paper thief)! He LL do that if enough of you ask him to do so!
I saw an editorial by the DA last week in the local paper about how he had put away a convict and stopped him from ever bothering people again.

And didn't he call out a couple of local judges and run them off? Or did he say he couldn't find anything wrong with them? I can't remember. He may have punted on that one.

I'm sure he will indict this forger if you will complain but have no interest if you aren't a voter!

He might also indict the people who are illegally (so they say) building the West by pass of Fayetteville. Just ask him----he may not know this is happening and has been for years going on! Tell him! Bet he would be interested.
